Thank you so much for your videos, the 1st time I owned cats I lived in the US, I had NO idea how bad the cat food was, how misleading. Makes me sad that I fed my 2 cats so badly. I am now back in the UK and I use a company called Bella and Duke. It’s raw food delivered to me frozen. It goes straight in my freezer. My cats love it! And are healthy and a good weight. No more kibble…. (Only if used in toys as a treat) I’m going to change to Ziwipeak after seeing your video. Let’s hope more cat owners find your channel and realise how misleading cat food labels are. I try to get all my friends to watch the documentary Pet fooled!…… Thanks so much…..

Hello Jess again! I’m watching your videos and noticed this was from a year ago. The video I watched before this, you said that you are giving Jericho less powder nutrients and are feeding him more “whole prey.” Now I’m starting to get confused on what powder nutrients are needed and what isn’t needed. Do you have an updated video on what is essential and best for raw food diets. Didn’t know you could order mice for cats. This should be interesting! 😊🐈⬛

I went to wet just like you said and then to raw and 2 of the cats actually were hooked on raw after the first day with some to the side of the commercial wet and the next day just raw. The other on is older and is taking more time but it's going very well.
How do you feel about ez complete? I'm wanting to do the homemade raw diet and switch from primal but i need to simplify things in my life and the extra steps and prep work with grinding and having to put all supplements in one by one would be hard with my adhd and problems with executive function. He's got stomatitis, so how would i do this when chewing on meat chunks would be good for his dental health? Cannot find a vet nutritionist locally or i would go to one, so I've just been feeding primal since it eliminates all the extra prep work needed when doing homemade or Frankenprey raw.
I buy a. Very good kind of can wet food for my 1 cat, Gizmo. It cost me about $120 of food plus snack per month. How much does it cost fir those whole prey, ground up meat, abd the supplement per month? It seems easy enough to prepare.
I was inspired by your channel and attempted to give my cat (who's been eating raw for 6yrs) a fully defrosted arctic mouse as a treat. He would not go near it. 🙄 Any suggestions?
Yes! Portion out the total amount fed daily into separate meals. I've actually updated his amount since I made this video. He's now eating 3.5 ounces which has gotten him settled at his ideal weight. My boy is starting to take to the beef green tripe better now. The minnow needs to be broke in half for my boy or he just looks at it. 😂He's not a big chewer like Jericho.
Hi Jess..I am at loss…my kitty is 14 weeks old and has diarrhea for about 4 weeks now and it doesn’t seem it want to stop. I feed him royal canin dry food & wet food for baby cat…the vet he is healthy and this diarrhea is due to abruptly changing his diet. I am so sad for this. I want him to stop and want to do whats best for him. Please i need to hear your advice. Thanks.

Great questions! Perhaps I'll make another video next time I order food and address these questions for anyone else. I feed Jericho his main meals 3x a day, and his snacks 1x. I warm up the pinkie mice, but I do not warm up his food. I should warm it up though. Perhaps next time I sort out his food I'll put them in individual jars (rather than daily servings in each jar) so I can warm up the meat a bit while still in the jar.
@@jesscaticles I saw a great tip on warming up food during my research. Heat the plate only in the microwave for about 30 seconds then add the raw to the plate and spread it out. Then mix in some warmed water and it should be good to go. Maybe this will help?

I thought that most of these fancy raw food companies include the supplements... like Darwin's and Hare Today, would be nice to know which brands include the supplements since those are such an added expense.

What would you feed your cat if you are trying to keep them on a urinary preventive care diet? My cat developed an UTI from eating a certain brand with the color Blue in its name. Then I find out Royal C is not good for your cats either, first few ingredients are awful for your pets, I don't understand why it is so highly rated by Vets!
Hi Cathy, Veterinarians are medical doctors, not nutritionists. So they rely on the pet food manufacturer to tell them what's good and what isn't good. Billion-dollar companies own the cat food brands you mention. So they have the money to do clinical feeding trials. They usually feed their "prescription" food and a very generic lower quality food (if lower quality was even possible!). So of course one of them will be better. Vets want to see the hard data. And those billion-dollar companies can pay for it. They are also sponsors of the American Veterinary Medical Association. So they have a very heavy influence on vets. I feed my kitty minnows n I have to hide the bags of them bc if I dont she will tear apart the bag n eat them all.She is absolutely obsessed with them.I really wanna try the freeze dried duck liver n rabbit as well.
Cats typically build a serious craving for fish! My cat is the same about his minnows. It's great to offer a variety of meat sources to avoid pickiness. But of course offer one at a time and introduce them slowly. Cats are sensitive to food changes (:

Yes the dry food is not all that but cats are hunters let them out from time to time they woill find a real mouse I can't believe how spoilt deterred World cards are we have a cat outside they hunt and eat multiple differentu food and are quite happy and healthy
Treats shouldn't be more than 10% of the total daily intake. Maybe 2 minnows and 2-3 small pieces of green tripes. It probably equals about 0.1 oz or something really small.

I am leaning more on giving wet food and less gf kibble. Havent tried Raw foods yet. I didnt know that dry kibble could also have Salmonella? I feel so bad for those cats in the UK and their owners. I have a multi cat household. In switching to Raw would u still have to add the extra vitamins & taurine as u portion it out to them slowly, meaning if u are offering Tiki cat for example & u add 5% Raw would the Raw food need to be with the extra vitamins & taurine? @@debbieshomes6984 Hi Debbie, thanks for your comment and kind words!! Jericho is my precious baby boy 😻 You are correct that you would introduce raw foods with the additional vitamins and minerals. But that's only if you're using Hare Today as I do in this video. If you choose a raw food brand that's already complete and balanced, you would not need the additional vitamins and minerals. So far this year there have been more recalls for kibble than raw. Midwestern pet foods alone have recalled hundreds of kibbles due to potential salmonella contamination. But when raw recalls, it's only a handful of products. Very crazy! At the end of the day, any wet food is better than dry. Simply because cats rely on food for moisture. But just FYI "premium" on the label means nothing according to AAFCO. Thanks again for your support and kind words!

My cats seem to like wet foods by Tiki Cat, Wellness & Weruva, but I noticed with Weruva they add alot of tuna bc its cheaper. Always looking for better foods. What are some raw foods that are good and that also have added vitamins, minerals & taurine? For example, if I would boil some chicken could I just shred the chicken or I would need to still add the vitamins, minerals & taurine? I just wabt to understand things correctly. Thanks again! ❤

The natural diet is more than just meat. Also, if you're cooking it's important not to cook bones. Raw meaty bones are fine, as long as you don't feed weight-bearing bones. But cooked bones can splinter and cause harm. It's important to balance this properly too because too much bones can cause problems. There are vitmain/mineral premixes available online. Hey Jess. I have a question? So the glass jars u use to put the food in, you said u put a days worth of food in these freezer jars and that is about 5 ozs for each jar generally speaking. On Amazon the jars highlighted are smaller than the ones u use (4 oz. green lids) but the description on Amazon says 4 oz/8 oz.) I am trying to figure out how to order the exact same jars u have because obviously 4 oz isn't large enough to hold the amount of food u feed Jericho ? Sooo, i'm a bit confused i guess. I am detailed oriented so i may be your problem student going forward. I'm also trying to find your video that shows the push up ice trays?? I just read your response to Grace's question so thinking i need to followup with that video. 😁
In this video I am using old salsa and jelly jars that I've saved, washed, and reused. But technically they are not freezer safe. So that's why I put the link to jars that are freezer safe. Since I made this video I've updated Jericho's portioning. I am now putting 1 serving in ice cube trays and 2 servings in the jars. I've also updated the amount of food being fed. 5 oz was way too much for him but I was still figuring out how much was correct when I made this video. I plan to make another video with an update to Jericho's diet sometime next month. But I'd suggest 1-2 servings in each jar rather than putting the entire day's worth of food (like I do in this video). Sorry for the confusion but I will make an updated video soon!
LOL it's funny, before this pandemic I worked as a cat sitter. My boyfriend always joked that I was cheating on Jericho. The other non-Jericho cats in my other videos are my mother's cats. She has 4 right now. But I've had 11 total family cats before adopting Jericho on my own.
@@sniff790 Nope he never got mad! He actually enjoyed sniffing me. All of the cats did. I walked dogs too so they all had a world of smells on me lol All the cats stuck their faces inside my shoes.
As a lifelong vegan I have no idea about meat. Recently rescued a feral kitten and I’ve been feeding her the best food I can find but even then it doesn’t seem right to me as she is a carnivore and the amount of grains is concerning. I also don’t like feeding her things I don’t understand when I look at the back of the packet. Could you recommend something (if anything!) I can buy in the supermarket (meat wise) that’s a little more accessible?

Great information even if probably useless for me, but I might try one more time. Obviously, vegan; whole mouse is a bit too much for me to stomach plus my abandoned cats are real proficient at killing birds and lizards but have yet to figure out they can eat them too. I also only feed twice a day because my not-at-workplace schedule and their 'hungry' schedule usually don't mesh and ants/roaches/flies are a real issue. Tried keeping inside, but home owner was not happy (plus vomit cost me several hundred to clean up rug) and the two cats barely tolerate each other's presence. They are permanently 'outside cats' now and yes I'm aware of the dangers. Nothing I can do but put out 'safe structures' for them with some weather/temperature relief. Younger cat (gobble/vomit if given over 4oz) refuses several tries at slow transition to raw meat. I tried even as little as 1/4t and he'd eat around it. Mix it into the cooked and he would snub the whole lot. Can and will go a week without eating at all (at least from our house.) Older cat (barely eats 1oz) used to want only Stella & Chewy's frozen chicken nuggets and Select, but suddenly stopped and now both only want Tiki Cat Succulent Chicken canned. They don't even care for fish. Never had cats like this before! I can get the younger to eat some hydrated S&C freeze dried, but only in combo with the Tiki. I'm certain they are both eating crappy dry food put out by well-meaning but ignorant neighbors for stray cats because sometimes they vomit up some truly colorful combos. Both cats are 10.5 lbs at optimum weight. Getting these cats to eat even half-way decently is a real chore. Is this what parents of toddlers and rebellious teens go through? :( What brand of digital scale is that? I once looked them up, but the bad reviews were a put off.
I mentioned in another comment response to you, but all cats develop pickiness in their lives. It's likely due to the dry food that's left out by neighbors. Cats get addicted to those flavor enhancers. The digital scale is in the description. I've had it for months and it works great!
I find the biggest challenge figuring out how to make batches small enough up front. They won’t eat enough to spend all that initially considering the first week- two- three etc is probably little more than a tablespooon and scaling up slightly etc. This oddly may be the greatest challenge I’ve ever faced, and I’ve built 2 companies currently on my third. It’s quite remarkable.
You could start the introduction with freeze dried raw since that's easier to portion and serve. Then use the frozen version from the same brand. Some brands also make frozen patties. But yes if you want to go homemade it does take work. But think about your long term goals 😸 After the transition, it's easy.
Wow I am so glad I came across your page ! New cat guardian here . Its been 6 months and i want the best diet for her. IM SUPER LOST THO. Whats the BEST top 3 cat foods you recommend I give her ? I heard feline natural is good . Around the same price as that one brand Ziwi. Also checked out Darwin and its more economical than Feline Natural and Ziwi lol and fully raw. I saw that Darwin doesn't need any supplements so they eat just that raw food you buy. True or not? Also do you recommend kibble ? If so which one. THANK YOU SO MUCH 💓! LOL thank you for your comment!! The brands you mention are all great and brands I recommend in other videos. It is true that darwin's is complete and balanced meaning you do not have to add supplements to it. That's the top choice for me then feline natural freeze dried raw or wet or ziwi wet are next best. I do not suggest kibble for any cat because cats rely on food for moisture. And kibble is far too low in moisture. You will just have to transition to new foods slowly. @@santiagogonzalez1641 I think I understand what you are saying. The feeding label instructions are assuming that you are feeding that food alone. So during the transition you would work up to that amount gradually as you decrease the amount of dry food fed. Ideally, you would feed 100% high moisture diet since cats rely on food for moisture. I give 1 minnow a day. I haven't been giving the green tripe as often maybe a few times a week is fine. As long as treats don't exceed 10% of your cat's total daily intake it should be fine.
Hi Jess, Does Hare Today treat their meat to prevent pathogens, like salmonella and e coli? If not, do you disinfect the meat somehow? I buy from Darwin's right now and they treat with organic acids. However, their meat choice is very small and so im thinking to try Hare Today. Thanks!
I personally don't include fish oil because Jericho eats whole prey (the stomach contents include predigested plant matter which has been converted to EPA/DHA). So if you are not feeding whole prey, you wouldn't include fish oil as well.

She had a litter of 5 six weeks ago and are transitioning them to solid food. Both parents and kittens are indoor only now and we want the best for them all.

I saw in alnutrin’s website that you cannot combine it with other supplements? Is that true? My cat has liver issues so she has some supplements for liver support.
I believe what they mean is not to mix it with other vitamin/mineral supplements. Their supplements are intended to be the vitamin/mineral supplement that fills in the nutrient gaps that may be missing from ground meat, bones, organs. Is it okay for them to eat fish and mouse bone? I worry if they choke. I want to try to feed my cats with raw food after learning dry processed food is not good for them. Btw your cat is so lucky to have you that you look after his health you don't just give him just food but healthy food. 😊 I want to do the same with my cats
Aww thank you for your kind words!! I am very lucky to have him in my life. Whole fish isn't the greatist idea for a few reasons.. Cats form an addiction to fish and this can cause pickiness. Also, fish is high in thiaminase which destroys B vitamins and cats need higher amounts of these. However, freeze-dried minnows are fine as treats. And I actually give these to Jericho every day. Mouse bone is fine because this is exactly what cats eat in the wild. You would just have to introduce it slowly so your cat understands he has to chew it. It's basically all hardened together. I actually break them up into small pieces and then hide them around the apartment. So Jericho never really eats them whole.

@@jesscaticles You're welcome!! It's their second day and the shelter had them free feeding on kibble and fed them fancy feast (cries) twice a day. I tried to feed them and only one of them seems to eat the wet food. He only eats a super small amount and walks away. The other only eats the kibble. I'm going to slowly put less kibble each day so hopefully, he will learn to eat the wet food but I'm thinking of going with the freeze dried food you mentioned in one of your videos if it doesn't work. They drink a lot of water though and I noticed their poop is kind of watery :/
@@hayankitty6134 They may still be adjusting to the new home. I'd say try to get scheduled feeding times consistent and let them settle for a few months. Keep trying with the same wet they came to you, at least they are used to eating that. Then maybe once their tummies settle, you can start the transition.

@@jesscaticles Thank you so much! My cat is a 8 year-old super picky eater. Switching to raw diet seems impossible somehow because he's very addicted to strong smell/flavor of commercial wet food. Homemade cooked food also seems very challenging but I'll try and then raw meal is the next level.
@@landt. Yes cats are very keen on smells. And they are all picky eaters (: You could also take freeze dried organ meats and crush that into the food as a smell attractant. Or freeze dried minnows. Those have a powerful smell! Once he is adjusted to homemade, you can cook it less and less to get him used to eating raw. But homemade cooked is still better than commercial food!

That’s absolutely disturbing 😳 just buy raw food and prepare it yourself. It’s much cheaper than this and you can get all those ingredients in a grocery store
I'm vegan and even I am going :S over that comment. Have you ever eaten a chicken either whole cooked or just a leg? That's skin and muscle and bone. Those stringy blue things that try to get caught between your teeth? Veins. Ew! (Seriously. It was just such a 'revelation' moment that started me as a vegetarian diet that gradually switched to modified vegan (I will happily eat responsibly farmed honey where the bees are not hurt or starved.) Cats are obligate carnivores. They have to eat meat and organs.
