The wig I'm working on is called Reed by Amore Rene of Paris. It's a closed wefted cap construction, but this technique will also work on a fully hand-tied cap.
For even better results you can use more elastic sewing thread, which you can find on Amazon or any crafts store.

Please give me a thumbs up if you enjoyed watching my video 🥰 👩‍🦰👩👩‍🦳
My head measurements are:
Circumference - 21.5" (Average)
Front to back - 12" (Petite)
Ear to ear - 12" (Petite)
Neck - 4"
Face - 8"

This was so helpful. My ear to ear over the head and around the crown is the small measurement and all the other adjustment approaches I'd seen on RU-vid involved alterations that wouldn't work in that direction - perpendicular to what you adjusted. But this cinching approach definitely works and the way you did it is much better because it didn't alter how the fibers laid down afterward. Really appreciate this thank. you!

Thank you - I will try this. The wig cap I'm working on completely covers my ears so I'm not sure this will take make the correct part of the cap smaller. Apparently the top of my head is flat! Still I'll try and if it doesn't work I may try stitches that run from ear tab to ear tab over the top. That could leave strange bumps, however. We can always hope for a solution!

Great video! Thank you! I have a very small head. This technique is great for decreasing front to back length. Any tips for decreasing side to side (ear to ear) width? Even with a petite cap I need to decrease both ways.
@Teds_Wig_Emporium
@Teds_Wig_Emporium 11 месяцев назад
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it! It’s very tricky having a smaller head! For side to side I would consider pinching the cap in small section behind the ear tabs first. It’s a little tricky as you travel towards the crown, since you don’t want to end up with a big fold in the middle 🙈 I haven’t got a cap large enough to demonstrate that at the moment, so hopefully that makes sense xx Also ..The other thing I did with my Rachel wig was to cut off the ear tabs altogether. That worked for me quite well 👍🏻

@Teds_Wig_Emporium
@Teds_Wig_Emporium Год назад
Hi! Welcome! Thank you for your following! Tbh I never had that problem to face, but I would probably look at the knots and pluck each strand individually. Maybe use a cuticle scissors to pinch the hair closer to the base. I would never do too much in one go! Xx
@elaine9396
@elaine9396 2 года назад
My head and face are so small that this method won't work for me. Not only do I need to take the cap size in, but I also need to remove the excess bulk and hair. Do you have a method for that for 100% hand tied wigs? I know how to do it on wefted wigs.
@Teds_Wig_Emporium
@Teds_Wig_Emporium 2 года назад
Hi Elaine! Sorry, I haven’t got a video for that as yet. So far all the hand tied caps fitted me quite well, with maybe slight excess at the back. I do have an old Juliane wig, which I have destroyed whilst trying to thin her out, so I can’t definitely tell you how not to thin out a hand tied wig! 😁 I will be making a video about that at some point, but one thing to remember is Not to start thinning at the base of the cap, as you would do with a wefted design. You are probably already wearing a wig grip under your wig, am I right? You could also try a wig cap by Milano Wigs which incorporates a wig grip as well, which may help. Do you like any styles in petite cap sizes? I know there are only few choices out there sadly. I feel you you hun! This is definitely one of the problems I would like to touch upon in my upcoming chats.
@elaine9396
@elaine9396 2 года назад
@@Teds_Wig_Emporium Thanks for the reply! I do have a wig grip by Milano. I know this will sound ridiculous, but my wigs, which are already way too thick, full, and poofy look even bigger with the wig grip on. That tiny1/8th or 1/10th thickness around my tiny head makes a difference! I haven't actually started wearing wigs yet because I haven't been able to get any to look natural enough yet. Fortunately I still have enough hair even though it looks terrible. And again, with the grips, I'm not just concerned about the wig staying on, it's also about taking out volume. Even if I get a cap to fit, I will still need to use glue or something. They never stay at my forhead and I have a very unpronounced occipital bone at the back so even a good fit doesn't stay put. I would not have known not to thin a hand tied cap at the base! What happened to the wig? Did you rip the base material or something by accident? where you thinning by plucking or with thinning sheers? I will keep an eye out for your tutorial!
@Teds_Wig_Emporium
@Teds_Wig_Emporium 2 года назад
@@elaine9396 Oh gosh! it sounds like you have a real challenge to overcome there! I feel for you! I also have a very flat occipital bone and the only way that works for me is to add a wig clip to the nape of the wig. In addition, to any wig that I wear on daily basis, I would always sew in a strip of velcro grip at the top, so I don't have to worry about the added circumference. With regard to thinning a hand tied cap, it felt like a wearing a hedgehog on your head! lol It was not good! All those little spiky hairs poking out! haha. It's best to use thinning shears for that purpose. Have you considered toppers instead? I loved my Top Full by Jon Renau - it doesn't matter how little hair you have with this one, it covers most of my head! 12" for front to back - that may be a better option for you xx But there are also many brands that design low-density wigs - Ellen Wille for example. I highly recommend them!
@debh3450
@debh3450 2 года назад
@@Teds_Wig_Emporium can you explain where you add the extra Velcro and how that works? Thanks
@Teds_Wig_Emporium
@Teds_Wig_Emporium 2 года назад
@@debh3450 hi Deb! There are two methods I use actually. One is by sewing in a strip of wig grip in the inside of a wig cap, just where the lace front meets the mono top (or where you would naturally place your wig grip on your head) I think I showed this on my Rachel wig, so have a look at the cap demonstration in that video. The second method is to attach a Velcro patch more towards the crown of the wig, so that it’s less likely to cause discomfort on your head. I got a pack of Velcro strips from Amazon. Personally I prefer the first method, but the latter also works if your hair is fuller at the crown, since it grips to your hair very well. Hopefully I will be making a video on that very soon. Xx

I’ve purchased a BT lux Isabel and the lace doesn’t lay flat on my forehead because it is too big. I think adding a strap might help, would you agree? How would you add the strap?
@shawnmyers3722
@shawnmyers3722 6 месяцев назад
I tried the method you discussed in your video but I don’t think it’s the cap itself that’s big. I safety pinned a length of elastic in at the ear tabs and put the wig on and the lace at the forehead flattened out. But now I’m not sure how to attach the straps because the construction of the cap seems to delicate to accept the pull of a strap and the ear tab of the new lux line has that plastic covering on the ear tab. What would you suggest?
@Teds_Wig_Emporium
@Teds_Wig_Emporium 6 месяцев назад
Hi hun! Oooo that cap looks really tricky doesn’t it?! 🤔 Hmm tbh the simplest way would be to apply a little bit of Got2be glued hairspray on the sides to help the lace to stay down. Sounds like you have already solved most of the problem tho! Instead of using the straps you can sew in a little clip at the nape instead, so keep the straps on the looser end. I’m trying to imagine it in my head, I’ve not tried those caps yet … Are you using a wig grip btw? Xx
@shawnmyers3722
@shawnmyers3722 6 месяцев назад
The glue makes the lace “ruffle” on the forehead the. Because there is too much of it. But you said on the sides? Not the top of the forehead to apply glue? The elastic is out because it pulls the ear tabs out. I’ll try the combs. Yes I use a wig grip. Thanks for your reply.
