Ahhhhhhhh!!!!! This is going to help me so much! I've literally going through ten tubes this year at about $9 a piece for my mower's sulky. Constantly tearing the valve stems. I make for certain when I install the tube inside the rim that the valve stem pokes through the rim without any bind on it. So I think the tube is somehow shifting inside the rim causing the stem to wear against the hole in rim. Atleast now I can fix them! Your channel has so many of out of the box diy things that I've put to actual use. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL! Can I come be your shadow? In the meantime ya got a patreon?

aadoublea, if your tire is slipping on the wheel rim, you might be able to use a method of motorcycle racing and drill holes in the side of the rim of the wheel, and run SS screws, at just the right length, into the tire bead.

Thanks. You could put a patch on pre injury to prevent it from ripping. No Patreon.

That's a peculiar problem for a non-driven wheel. A tire (and tube) shifting like that usually only happens when drive power or braking is applied to a wheel and then usually only because of additional factors such as lube on the tire bead or under inflation. When installing a tube it should be inflated twice. First to allow the tube to untwist and shift inside the tire and then reinflate to seat the bead. It can be difficult just by looking to tell whether the tire bead has seated against the rim so release the air and press around the rim edge to be sure it has seated then reinflate.

I have a gun cart I use for sporting clays I made from a jogging stroller. Here in the Sonoran Desert we have mesquite thorns among other stuff that flattens tires. Patches didn't hold. On the last flat I coated the hole with Permatex Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker. I applied a slight vacuum to the tube to suck some inside the hole, then just enough pressure to keep the RTV from sticking to the opposite inside wall. Applied enough around the hole to make a patch and let it sit for 24 hours. That was a couple months ago and it hasn't leaked. The Permatex Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker sets up into an extremely tough neoprene rubber like material that is useful for many applications beyond the one it was designed for.

About three weeks ago Just for the heck of it I did a repair on my son's dirt bike tube. His tube has a straight valve stem. I normally clamp my tube repairs between two wood blocks. For his tube did the same just drilled a hole for the stem in the wood and clamped it down and let it cure/dry. Worked like a charm!

What you should have done first after cutting the hole in the patch is to slide the patch over the stem then apply the glue with the brush and then press it onto the tube

BCtruck, rebuild, repair,repurpose 450,000 miles on a set. I’ve had a lot of tires but none that were that hard of a compound. Usually ran a softer cap called winter grip had them siped and still places where chains were required. I’d get 3-4 seasons out of them. Ran Yokohama mostly in the summer months and get 4-5 summers out of them.

I already did all that on my own, gosh darn electric scooter tube still leaking, tried three times. Ordered three tubes just to keep spares on hand. Whoever idiot assembled the thing at the factory left the nuts that are supposed to keep the valve stem out on the wrong side. 😅 And of course it was the back wheel that popped with all the gizmos on it which are a pain to take apart, which you must to replace the tube. Really wanted the patch job to work to avoid that mess.

While I am about to try this technique 1st, I did find that Milton makes entire valve stem replacement patches.... search for Milton 462 and/or Milton 473 for them. But once you try one of these entire valve stem replacements you are stuck with them and if they don't work the tube is trash, while trying this 1st gives you a 2nd chance with one of the Milton stem replacements if this doesn't work. I have a rear tractor tire with a cracked tube stem, this tube is only 3 years old and costs over $100 to replace so.... what do I really have to lose but a few more days time? Just wish it wasn't 100F outside here in Texas right now... ughhhhh! 😕

Does this prevent valve stems from getting damaged again once in place? I need a prevention, not a cure
@sixtyfiveford
@sixtyfiveford 2 года назад
Absolutely. But also prevention is not allowing the tire to run low on air so the tire spins in the rim. You can also use a bead sealer on the tire to rim to help stick it in place so the tire doesn't want to spin on the rim.

Why bother Just buy a new tube

In a pinch it's worth fixing. Once you get the tube out the repair only takes a few minutes.

First, that would make for a crappy video. Second, I can permanently fix the tube faster and cheaper than I can go buy a new one. Third, in this day and age when everyone is too lazy to learn how to fix stuff I like to show people what is possible.

You need good patches. Cheap patches suck and don't stick to anything.
