The only thing I see that it needs, would be a drink holder. Hole saw, a spare square piece held in by a few screws and a support angle piece under that. Chair looks good.

Thanks to your vid I built one of these a year or two ago with some scrap pressure treated lumber I had lying around. It’s a good design that was super easy to follow and took an hour using my mitre and jig saws. Whenever we have people over they always ask my wife where she bought the chair. When she tells them I built it, they think I’m some sort of master craftsman. I giggle inside every time. Nice work!

I just built one, now that wood is almost back at previous prices. I gotta say I had fun with the project and there were only minor adjustments I had to make with the sander to make it all a perfect fit. Wet PT wood make mine about 130 pounds. That’s perfectly fine and it’ll dry out over the winter. To be honest, it’s not as comfortable as I’d hoped with the seat being flat. This only means that a lucky family member will get an Adirondack chair for his birthday soon. Thank you so much for the excellent plan and video. Again, I had fun building it.

Built 2 for myself and sold 4, and have an order for 6 more! Great plans and the chairs are very sturdy and comfortable! One recommendation - I found that if you put a screw in from the inside of the upright into the back of the arm rest, it makes it a LOT sturdier.

We built two of these chairs and really love the solid design. The legs provide good support in the lawn and prevent sinking. Made a couple of minor tweaks to the plans. Used a 45 at the top of the outside back boards to soften the corners. Also used pocket screws to secure the arm rest to the support so there were no screws in the top. The design is perfect with a Leopold style bench. I’ll try your bench design next! (For all - Buy the plans as it much easier than working from the web site. I then add the plans to my notebook so that I can record my tweaks and notes.)

Gotta love easy DIY stuff for noobs like me. I built the bench last week. Today, this chair. I had some issues with the angles using a speed square but in the end it came out great. A key for me was squaring the feet with a straight board. Using the measurements on the pics where to line up the small leg didn’t work out so I just used the 2 5/8 one and squared them. Worked fine. Other errors too but they’re all on me. There were a lot of cuts and if you’re off by 1/16 over 4 cuts let’s say, that 1/4” can make a heckuva difference.

Great build! Built one for myself with only one or two problems. My neighbors seen the chair when it was almost completed and both of them want two chairs each along with a table. So, if this keeps up will have to make some templates. The only thing different from your chair is I put a 3 inch round-over on the outer vertical panels for the back.

I bought the plans and built this chair. Same with the bench seat also. They turned out great tho I used some different sized timbers as I had some off cuts lying around. I think thin decking boards on the seat is an upgrade on this chair because it adds more flexi and thinner decking boards will dry faster after a rainy day. I used the stronger 32mm (about 1 inch) decking boards but will swap them out for 19mm (about 1/2 to 3/4 inch). I live in New Zealand and these are perfect for the conditions! The sun doesn't fade them beyond a coat of stain, the wind doesn't blow them away and rain doesn't affect them. They are more durable than anything you can buy in a store and neighborhood cats don't piss on them! 1 improvement you could consider for your videos and plans is to add the metric measurements for the other 94% of the worlds population. Even with the outdated measurements, your probably my favorite RU-vidr. Keep it up and ill keep buying you plans.

I just built this chair and I love it, I took a lot longer than an hour but I bought material for two chairs. My only thing was that I thought the chair would be to heavy for the arm rest to be screwed into the side, the piece that was cut off from the support pieces I used for support: measuring 4 inches down from longest side and cut it at the same angle. Looks good and is very comfortable! Everyone who has seen or sat in it loves it. Thanks!!

I learned something today that was so simple I could not believe that I had not thought of it. Laying the foam insulation on your table to use when cutting wood on it with your circ saw. I do that all the time on the driveway with sheet plywood but it never occurred to me to put it on my table for the same purpose. I just always used dogs to hold it and held the part to be cut off the edge. Your way is better. Also, I doubt I will ever build one of these chairs but thanks for the free plans anyway.

I just finished this chair today. Definitely is NOT an hour job if you're a beginner. There's a lot of angled cuts needed, and those can be a challenge to cut straight with a circular saw through 2" of treated wood. I also felt like some of the cuts on the 2x8s should have been put on the cut list diagram so they'd be easier to cut when it was all one big piece. I accidentally cut the angle on the long legs backwards so it leans back a little further, which my wife actually likes. I also used a plant pot to draw a curve on the armrests and cut it with a jigsaw so it looks better, and I used pocket screws to attach the back of the armrests. Finished product looks great though, and I plan on building a second chair.

I really like this, and the bench you made in another video as well. I think, however, that where the legs intersect, and maybe other areas where structural support is required, I will be using 1/4 inch galvanized lag screws. I stand at about 6'2", and check in around 275 pounds, so I want to make sure this is going to support me, and anyone else, for a long time to come. I might also add in a support on the rear of the arm, like what you used under the front of the arm. Overall I am very impressed with these projects, and can't wait to start building my own.

One thing you might consider, is adding some sacrificial blocks to the end of the legs. They help prevent the chair from sinking into the ground, stop water from wicking into the legs and can be easily replaced when rotted.

Just one suggestion. When you are cutting treated lumber please wear a dust mask. The sawdust carries the chemicals and is not good for you to be breathing in. Other than that, the design and plans are pretty awesome. There are so many Adirondack chair designs that are so friggin' complicated on the web. I like this one and will probably add it to my portfolio of outdoor furniture as soon as lumber prices come down, or at least stabilize.

I've built and sold a few of the benches you have on your page and I was going to try to find a way to donate a bit as a thank you. But then I saw you charge for your plans for this chair, so I decided to just buy your plans instead. I've added an arm to the bench you made, but I think I'm going to try something like the arm on this chair instead. I already build 2 different adirondack chairs, one that's just amazing (from Jackman Works), but it takes about 7 hours to make. The other is very simple from Ana White, but not nearly as comfortable. I've sold some of each. I think I'll add this as kind of a slight upgrade from the simple one I make. I'm hoping lumber prices come soon down so I can make them a little cheaper. Thanks again for such great content!
