In this video I show the steps involved in taking apart and replacing most of the hardware in a Moen kitchen faucet that was leaking. It can be a bit complicated, but it is something you can do on your own with a few tools!
The instructions say use the grey piece for series 7100 and the white for series 7400 and 7600. The instructions also say to only grease the outside of the o-rings once they are on the valve.
The first thing you should do is insert the covers/caps into the drains. It may even help to put a square of kitchen plastic wrap over the capped drains. It helps to dampen the sink surface first, then set the plastic wrap in place. This will prevent you having to fish parts out of the disposal or drain when it slips out of your hand.
What model is this as I think mine is the same with hot and cold running separately in holes through sink with some hard to remove (not tried) brass looking thing for the sprayer. Not sure how to remove entire faucet. Tx
You have to get under the sink with an adjustable socket wrench and just try your best to loosen the nuts. Somehow if it was installed by a contractor or plumber, it must have been possible to squeeze in there with the right tools. Good luck!
I like the video detail. However, I would recommend that most people would be better off IF they plugged up the sink drains so that NOTHING could get lost in the event of a slip.
Good suggestion. I normally have sink drain screens/filters so I didn't think of that, but yes to plugging up the sink so you don't lose parts or tools!
They will honor warranty regardless of paperwork. It is a lifetime guarantee. As long as you show them you have a Moen part, they will give you a replacement. Sometimes you can even just show up at a hardware store that sells Moen stuff and replace it there. Contact their support number or fill out the form on their page. Let me know how it goes!
thank you soooooooooo much for posting this!! we had our home custom built 9 years ago and didnt know that Moen would send us parts for our faucets for free! got them today and we put this one in and its so perfect it feels like its done wrong LOL..next to the bathroom faucet. tysm for the info on parts. saved all that money and got it all free thanks to you!
Yes I agree, and it is failing every 2-3 years so you have to keep changing that cartridge all the time. Thankfully Moen guarantees for life, otherwise this is the worst design ever for a faucet if you had to keep paying over and over again.
This video was a life saver! I wasn't sure about some of the parts and didn't want to break anything... got a little confused putting it back together and yours instructions are so nice and thorough! Also just so anyone knows, if you just need a cartridge or o-rings, you can pop into a home depot or wherever sells Moen faucets and they'll give you one for free if you give them the old one! :) Happy DIY'ing everyone! Thanks for the video again Dev!
This video was very helpful. I would just like to add that if you’re having trouble removing the cap or other parts due to calcification keep spraying the problem area with a 50/50 vinegar warm water solution. Eventually, it should work free; patience is the key. In addition, Moen usually will send you a replacement cartridge at no cost. It also includes a removal tool which was needed to free up the old cartridge.
Great video, I was stuck in the middle of changing the cartridge and I got confused. I found you and it was very easy.Nice soft voice and easy to understand.Keep making more videosNow I'm going to change the cartridge in my wife's bathroom sink.thanks again
Thank you so much for this educational video! It appears we have the same faucet and mine is currently having the same leaking issue. May I ask if you can tell me the model number or where I can locate it on the faucet? I have tried and we do not have the original paperwork, because it was not left for us by the builder or first occupant of our home. I even tried to capture it from the paperwork you pulled out at the end of this video. Thank you for any assistance you may be able to provide.
There is no identification number but use the following website to find something that looks similar (also you submit photos during the warranty request to Moen): www.moen.com/customer-support/identify-my-product
Mine have low water flow after i repaired a leak and had water turned off for days . NOPE took it apart disconnected water lines and blew air thru them then reconnected them and still low water flow .. They didn't look clogged up but still blew air thru them and still low pressure . Might be where the problem ? Turn off valves ?
I assume water lines have full pressure up to the faucet? Perhaps the cartridge is clogged? I would check the assembly from start to finish, could be some of the rings are on in wrong sequence or flipped around. Good luck!
@@devhackmod Yes both supply shut offs are gushing filling bucket very fast . hooked up line to both and they looked good . In fact verry surprised when I forgot to tighten that plastic nut on cartridge and I opened up and it blew the whole cartridge and handle off and it shot up a couple feet up .. Changed cartridge still the same . I figure it's in spout or faucet base itself the problem ? Saw video in which they backflush this system and I'll try that . Do you have any other ideas because I don't known how to check o rings on part that cartridge goes into I guess you meant ?
@@frankmontez6853 Is this a new faucet (replacement unit from Moen) or are you trying to repair an old one? I would just put everything back carefully, in the right order and tighten everything. If it's new it should work. Perhaps not tightening the cartridge or forgetting to removing a plastic cap (not sure if the cartridge has a cap to protect it that needs to be removed before installation) could have been the issue. But you need all the O-rings and parts installed exactly the way it says. Good luck!
@@devhackmod UPDATE - the blockage was somewhere in between spout and water supply lines. I blew compressed air thru and that cleared it. I did it from spout to lines. First way I did it was blowing air from supply lines upwards. That didn't work. Hope this helps someone.
I've had mine for 7 years and I have no CLUE where the receipt is. I could not get this free stuff. I also had a water purifier side where the sprayer usually goes, they don't sell these kind like mine anymore, I would guess it to be a 7400 there is no marking except on the water filter holder. Moen. that's all, no number.
You don't need a receipt. Just go to the website and fill in the request form, include all the details and they will ship you a replacement. Moen has lifetime warranty.
Some stem have a groove that goes to front, and always replace the aerator. Brothers was stopped up, caused luke warm water instead of hot water. I know kind of werid
I can't thank you enough for this video. Really. I replaced the 1225 cartridge last night. That frustrated me because I couldn't get the little clip back in place. After finally getting that to work, and getting everything put back together, I still had a leak at the base of the faucet and a leak under the sink (I've had a leak under the sink for quite some time - been catching it with a plastic container). I put new o-rings on thanks to this video, said a prayer, and now it works.
getting that cart out without the tool (which amazon and friends are trying to sell seperately ) wasn't too too hard. but i did damage it a little to do it (oh well its getting junked anyway) Mine is the 7400 also. Thanks for explaining how to get this apart.
+dosmastrify Glad you were able to fix it, and that the video helped. You should be able to get free parts and tools from Moen though, you don't need to buy anything separately.
Moen really came to your rescue. Excellent video. I just got my Moen replacement kit yesterday and thought..wonder if there are RU-vids. I know you showed other sets of Allen keys (metric and inch), but Moen already sent you the exact one. At 3:29 your bag shows the L shaped Allen wrench/key usually 7/64 inch., cartridge 1225 B. Many thank yous for such clear instructions and great focus.
Awesome video guide...thank you!! My issue is at the base...I have a Moen....so I will phone to get a replacement kit! Thanks for helping a female like me!👍
Thank you so much. Learned a lot, You have saved a lot of money for a simple fix and am grateful for you to share this with others. I am pretty sure I have the same faucet as you but can't find the model number and do not have the bill of sale. Can you help me there to move forward? Thanks again.
+Ruth Carter There is a guide on Moen's web site to help you find it. Search for something that looks like yours, or get the model # which may be stamped on it somewhere. Find all info here: www.moen.ca/replacement-parts
Thanks for this video. I have a Moen faucet and my handle broke off over a week ago. The parts came in yesterday and I fixed it this morning in 35-40 minutes. No plumber need at all.
I usually contact Moen through their website/support page and they will mail it to me. I've never tried the hardware stores but I assume you show up with your old cartridge? I don't have any receipts at all, it was installed by the home builder.
Thank you so much for doing this video. I'm a woman and I honestly feel like I can do this repair now. Of course I'll have your video on walking me through, step by step. You're absolutely right about calling Moen and them sending all FREE parts. Thanks again, your expertise is greatly appreciated.
Glad to help! Check out my latest Moen repair, which you may need to do next also like I did after the one you watched: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hLsj4lSc1AQ.html
+Jancen No receipt needed. Just go to the Moen website and you fill in a form for warranty parts. You will need to upload some photos of your existing faucet, and know the model number, and explain what is wrong. Our Moen faucets were all installed by the builder in our house, we have no receipts for anything. Moen is great for customer service in this regard, too bad not all companies are like this.
Thanks for the info. Our leak is coming from the cold water line. Only the hot water line is on right now. Is this an o-ring or catridge issue? Regards.
Jancen Not really sure, but when you open the faucet it will clear out both hot and cold feeds into the mixing area since you are removing everything. You should be able to see if something was plugging the cold line inlet... possibly the cartridge was plugged.
Grrrrrrrrrrr. I see by the number of old 'white plastic tools' I have in my box that I've done this 3-4 times in the past. But today ... that dang cartridge will not come out. Guess I'm not praying enough. Hail Mary ...
It finally worked. I DID use good ol' WD-40 plus the advise from another video. I just kept turning the cartridge using that white tool, back and forth, and eventually it loosened. Kinda caught me off guard. I splashed meself right in the face. It's all (mostly) good now. Thanks so much for this video!! - Reg.
I was able to fix my faucet leak with your instructions, thanks. I have somehow messed up the sprayer now though. It won't spray water. Do you have a suggestion as to what I can do to fix that?
I'm not sure what you mean about "sprayer", but it could be clogged or you may have assembled the valve backwards so the holes don't line up. Try to put things back together again and watch out for any reversed parts. Also, sometimes the sprayer gets clogged with small particles or silt. You may wish to dip it in vinegar for several hours and see if it dissolves the build-up.
I have the exact leaks (Moen 7400 series). But from what I've been reading they are saying it's the o-ring. ($5 piece). How would I know for sure if it's the cartridge or o-ring? Or does replacing the cartridge comes with a new o-ring?
Thanks for the response and video! Exactly what I needed. I just did the email request to Moen but they're on holiday hours.. so not sure when they'll get to me or how long it takes them to send me the kit. original owner of newly built house.
+YakMan NC You shouldn't have any issues. Send them a photo of the problem, the model number and they'll send you a complete replacement kit. Moen has been very good to customers in this respect!
I have one of these shitty faucets. The diverter valve seems totally inaccessible. Btw, lifetime warranty doesn't help much when the faucet is discontinued.
When I needed to repair my discontinued faucet I called Moen. They gave me two options: 1) They offered to repair it if I sent it to them or 1) I could buy a newer model faucet from them at a discount. I opted to purchase the new faucet. The new faucet I got is like the one in this video but I am betting they still have repair parts for it. They are very good with their lifetime warranty as long as you register and even if you don't they are pretty good about taking your word about being the original owner.
There is a form you fill out online to get warranty parts. In the form I told them my faucet was leaking and I sent them pictures of my worn out leaky faucet. There is a place on the form to attach photos. They will either send you a replacement cartridge, or the tap, or handle or other stuff depending on how bad it looks or what you are complaining is wrong with the faucet.
DevHackMod Channel - your Video was so helpful but I now have a small leak under the faucet assembly, between the c-shaped/horseshoe-shaped bracket through which the spray nozzle feeds. That bracket (that doesn’t seem to have an official name?) is all rusted, as is the nut holding the nozzle on to it. Any ideas/suggestions?! Thank You and Best Regards - Jim
