I have a lot of thinning especially on the top of my head, and in the bangs area. If pulling your hair back, you could try gently rubbing some matte eyeshadow in a colour similar to your hair. That helps cover the scalp that shows through. Just be sure to go lightly, the closer you get to your hairline so it doesn't leave a heavy line of colour. Also, before doing that, Mark Anthony's curl cream is good for boosting volume in my fine, thinning curly hair, and I blow dry my hair with that stuff in. Then, I lift the roots with a hair pick, and my hair will pouf up better when I loosely pin the bangs back. Sometimes, if i want a smooth front, I'll run a mini hair straightening iron through the bangs, quickly, but not right from my scalp. Another idea is a small 1" or 2" wide hair frontal pin in hair piece. That helps create thicker looking hair if pinned about an inch back from your own hair. There are also larger hair toppers that if purchased in a colour similar to your own, can give more hair overall on top, and can be brushed up together with your own hair, in order to add volume to the top and in your bun or ponytail. One last option if you just want to add more volume to your bun, or ponytail, would be drawstring ponytails. If you want to create a bun from a drawstring ponytail, you can simply gather it up under a hair elastic, and/or curl it up, and pin sections up around the ponytail join, to create a curly, slightly messy bun. With human hair pieces, it's best to look for Remy hair, as it's hair that was gathered up with the cuticles all lying in the same direction so that the hair tangles significantly less. One has to care for it as your own hair, and you'll have to most likely pin it to a mannequin head (or a styrofoam head if the hairpiece is small & light), to style it up as you'd like it to be. Many would recommend roller setting with product vs. a curling iron to style or touch pieces up. You can often order pieces that are already pre-permed, as well.
