Hello, Midnight Quilters! Angela here, I totally got my Bargello's mixed up- surprised? The Modern Bargello quilt is the EASY one, not the Rainbow. And the pattern is free (and designed by ME). You'll definitely want to take that one home to mom 😉shop.mybluprint.com/quilting/patterns/modern-bargello-quilt-pattern-quilting-diagrams-midnight-quilt-show/537068
Hi, I am an American living in the UK (16 years and counting). Loved watching Midnight Quilt Show and really looking forward to this series with Angela!
Thanks Angelia. I have been watching The Midnight Quilt Show for some time and enjoy watching immensely. You’ve helped build my confidence on machine quilting. It was one of the things that held me back from fulfilling a dream - opening my own quilt shop. Coming this summer, June or July, I will be opening my own quilt shop in our little town. It will be called Binding Memories in honor of my mother who started me sewing and quilting when I was four. I am now 59. Sadly my mom won’t be there in person, but one of her quilts and her memory will.
Hey Angela, I'm happy to say that I purchased one of your books a few days ago and I'm loving it! Thank you so much for all of the positive encouragement. I've always been a straight line quilter but Fm is so much more fun! I started quilting 3 yrs ago and have made 20 plus quilts ( I just stopped counting) I am terribly addicted and so glad that I found you. You have inspired me to do things I NEVER thought I could.
I am a beginner quilter - actually waiting for my machine to arrive. In lockdown in Melbourne (2nd wave) and desperately need a project to keep me sane. I love your uplifting, reassuring, and encouraging video - will be trying to find my 'perfect match' right now. Thank you Angela.
Love watching Angela so much!! I’m a beginner and my few first quilts aren’t that impressive but I love them and so do my grandkids!! The first one was the carpenter star from The Midnight Quilt show!! It’s so beautiful and I picked out fat quarters that my granddaughter liked! The kids actually fought over it!! So I made my grandson a dog block quilt next. Both are small but perfect for a five and two year old! And I am addicted to quilting now! And to the Midnight Quilt Show!!
I’m self taught! My first quilt was bow tie with set in seams! Second quilt was a snow ball! I had No idea they were “difficult” love this channel and Angela!
Love MQS! A great, fun way to get quilting ideas. Angela has a terrific personality, loves what she is doing and makes you believe that everyone can make a beautiful quilt!
Thank you Angela 💗 I’m loving your help.. I’m a long time sewer, new (Jan 2019) to quilting.. I’ve made 3 quilts since Jan, start to finish, & quilting the third right now. I began with a baby size.. now up to a large twin.. I love your quilting designs ! Unbeknown to you, All with “your guidance and suggestions” 👍☺️ I am having so much fun.. These videos are just what I needed right now, as I am getting ready for Quilt #4 ❤️💗💜💕💖🎉👍☺️ Take care and God Bless, Chris-Raleigh NC
My first quilt two years ago was Around the World. Since finding my Quilty wingman, Angela, I have done all her FMQ challenges and no longer consider myself a rookie!! I have loads of finished, but not perfect, quilts.
To all the beginners Angela is Perfect. A lot of times I have to tell myself, "Walk away from Angela's videos and buying material and supplies and get into your sewing room."
Wow, what a fun class. It is about two years since I was beginning; my first finished quilt is a churndash queen size and I sewed seed bead patterns on it in a pretty pattern OMG. Love, love love all the U Tube quilters who helped me ease up on myself, slow down and ENJOY my new pass time. I have learnt to love piecing those tops but I am a passionate quilter! Can’t wait for the next Bluprint class (and MQS)!
I think log cabin is a good first pattern. I did a throw size kit for my first quilt, and I worked on it with a small group at a quilt shop. My teacher got me off to a great start! She made sure I developed good habits, safe rotary cutting, bought the right tools, and gave me lots of short cuts, tips, and techniques.
I’m in Washington state and definitely a beginner quilter . I think my biggest issue is I want to be doing so I can see how it turned out 😏this video really helps me decide and I love your enthusiasm. Thanks ~Debi
Hey from Queensland, Australia!! Love watching the Midnight Quilt Show! I'm always working on or planning a new quilt!! I've been quilting since early 2008. Doing a Lonestar and a Bargello are on my bucket list!
I had started out on the quilting adventure many years ago because my grandmother and mom both quilt but I couldn't even tell you where those pieces were now. For my birthday I got a new sewing machine and a new spark for starting a project. Your video has helped pick a pattern but I was for sure about to jump on the Rainbow Bargello because it is SO beautiful and since you said it was easy in the video I was all excited.... skeptical.... but you gave confidence.....lol I saw the update. I'll put the rainbow for a goal quilt to try down the road.
New to machine quilting. Have made few (simple) quit tops and tied them 30+ years ago. Getting back to sewing and quilting. Tackled a Trapunto quilt for my niece in Dec and finished a throw (used crossroads) size for a dear friend last month. Working on a new quilt that is cross between Summer-in-the-Park (revamped) and Sidewalk-Chalk. Primary blocks are made, working with layout to group larger blocks and then will sew in rows.
I'm a beginner and pieced a quilt top for youngest son. I'm debating with myself on attempting to quilt it myself or send it off to quilted. I love your videos 😍
You should watch Angela's machine quilting tutorials - she really is something - and it is easy to follow - you just have to believe. Rob Appell from Man Sewing also has some great instructional videos on quilting. They are both amazing at what they do - just take a deep breath and go for it - you will be so glad you did.
I just started quilting. I built two and finishing my 3. Im.making 7 total. I use old print metal sheets to make my quilts. I go to theift stores. Pick out cool printed flat sheet. I wake sure they have no stains or tears in them. I bring them home. And cut them down to 16 by 22 inch blocks to lay them on my cut mat. And cut my blocks ir patterns out on it. It saves me time and money. Doing this. Then going and spending a lot of money on buying new material prints. Let alone it recycling and reusing.
I started by finding fabric I loved which happened to be a charm pack. So the obvious thing was to sew them together. Great way to work on that ever important 1/4" seam before tackling the bigger projects!
I am an intermediate quilter (?). I love the look of some of the harder ones and just bought a kit to take me to the next level. I usually hand quilt because machine quilting scares me but I am hoping to take the leap there soon too.
Very new to sewing and quilting(just this year). Wanted a way to utilize all my dad's shirts in memory quilts. Two rag quilts down and now I'm hooked. Bought a beginner machine and already looking to upgrade!
Midnight Quilter here! All those who aren’t are missing...well...Angela, my favorite quilting comedienne (aka smartass). Woman after my own heart! Angela my first quilt was made of two blocks, a 4 patch and half square triangles. I got halfway through piecing it and decided I didn’t like one of the fabrics, so I ripped out every seam and changed fabrics. Everyone in class thought I was insane. They were right. But the new fabric was amazing! I still haven’t finished that quilt...there’s always a new distraction that comes along. I haven’t finished many of them either. 😁😁😁
Thanks so much Angela! You inspired me to try the Modern Rail Fence pattern in batiks material as my very first quilt. I am almost finished with it! I did basic stitch-in-the-ditch and it was SO MUCH FUN to quilt! I can't wait to start my next one. Thanks for the suggestion of staying away from points -- I shall wait until I have more experience. Looking forward to your next tutorial :)
I just finished my first quilt top and I'll get the quilting done this weekend. I made a 20-square patch charm blanket with 5" squares. It's about queen sized and the basting sandwich is going to be larger than my living room! I'm so excited to start quilting my straight lines though!
I'm a beginner. I am supposed to be going to my first week long class June 13th - 18th. I picked a Eagle Soaring fabric to use as my center focal point with a navy blue, light blue solids to break up the quilt as well as a Grey print and a medium brown print for accents to throw in the mix.
I'm 25, been sewing since my grandma taught me both by hand and her olllldddd singer Machine when I was no older than 7. I also did some fashion design college before deciding it was just a "For Me" thing... I've never QUILTED Though. I want to make a baby blanket for my best friend who is having her first in February 💖🤗 I LOOOVE Sewing, I can make a bunch of other things, but this sounds like fun...
I'm going for the quilt you designed the feathers from the rhapsody melody collection with all the white background! i just bought it today! can't wait for it to get here .. did i mention patience is not one of my virtues! ... lol. .. thank you for all the inspiration, Angela
I’ve been quilting for a few years, sewing for 40+. Love all of these videos and patterns. I just realized something, I’ve ever done the same pattern twice! I think fabric plays a big role in the pattern as well. Love watching your videos! You need to get some purple “quilting is my therapy” shirts! Just saying🤣
Love your channel. Im a beginner, and love making your zipper bags you did for the holiday season. I also tried making the 2-at-a-time half square triangles quilt, but thats a bit too advanced for me. This video helped me so much. Thank you!!!
I am so happy the Midnight Quilter is back! I love your teaching style - good explanations with demonstrations and humor! You inspire confidence! Angela is good for beginning quilters. She helped me relax and realize I don’t have to do everything perfectly. If you are a beginner (or any level), check her out. She also has free videos on quilting including free motion quilting and quilting with rulers.
My first quilt was your Thistle Pattern, and although not all the points of the flying geese came perfect, I am very happy with the results. After that I have made a quilt with the disappearing 9 patch from MSQC, and the last one was the Dr. Who Tardis for my nephew. I am working on another pattern from a book.
I'm so happy with your videos and made the cathedral Window pillow. Ist was so great and easy by following your instructions. Thank you so much, and greetings from Germany
I sew when I was very young (about 11 years old until mid 20) after "many" I'm starting again and I want to quilt too. I do small project to get used to sewing again… I did the Cathedral Window Pillow, :-) a great project… Thank you Angela.. love all your videos.., And I adore the Midnight Quilt Show
This is funny. I picked that exact pattern with the negative space for my first quilt with you. I have quilted for years but wanted to make something I could start Machine quilting right away. It is made and not yet a sandwich, so I still have some work to do but It will happen. Thanks for the great pattern. I still send a picture when I get it quilted.
So very cool ! Really looking forward to this series. I joined in to your free motion series, only to have my machine need a servicing the very next day🥴. Love your teaching style, and can’t wait to get going again. Been trying my hand at learning about quilting for less than 6 months, so need all the guidance I can get😃🤗. Thanks for sharing the fun😊
I chose the negative block pattern and made it. I Love it. My quilt is not that big. so I am thinking of adding some borders and something. Not sure yet. It is ready to quilt so I should decide soon. Thanks for the great pattern. I watch all your videos. Some time I wish you would tell us the width of the fabrics when you are cutting away. That is a quick process but we never knew what size you are using. Just a thought. Bye
I picked a baby quilt for my first quilt, one I could actually finish within a reasonable amount of time and one that was a small enough size to machine quilt on a domestic machine. I had lots of things going against me, I hadn't quilted for over 50 years, even when I did, I didn't do it for long, and I had to learn how to use a modern sewing machine from scratch. Still, it turned out okay, even if it did take me 2 months (!) to finish. Now, I'm going to do another one and see how long it *really* takes me ;-)
I just made my first quilt top using Suzy Quilts’ Rail Fence Pattern and a Jelly Roll of Moda’s Meraki by BasicGrey! I’m addicted now. The BluPrint Summer Black Friday Sale caught me in a weak moment. :)
Hi Angela and Midnight Quilters! I love your show and am inspired every time I watch it. I'm a frequent sewer, but wouldn't consider myself a quilter. I have a bunch of fabric scraps from all my sewing projects and want to create a quilt where each sewing project is represented by a block created from the scraps. Any suggestions on patterns? I was thinking a grandmother's flower garden, but totally open to other ideas. Thanks!
It is possible to make a Bargello with no matching. Just drop the next strip down a half square. You do get the same effect and all the seams can be ironed in one direction.
I have about 15 unquilted tops. Loved piecing them. Now that Angela has inspired me to get over my perfectionism and quilt them, I have begun. For me the next hardest part is “what” to quilt all over, individual blocks. I just don’t know! But I’m starting. Do it. Finished is better than perfect.
Once you have the whole square seven together with all the rest, does somebody do the actual designer quilting over at all or do you have to have a special machine cause I don’t and I’m a beginner and I haven’t ever made a quilt, but I’ve made quilted things like wallets andpillows?
Just finishing my first quilt.... a (race) jellyroll. Just finishing the binding (which I'm discovering that I hate). Angela, please give us some tips!
I would probably be an intermediate quilter. I love to try new patterns and am currently enjoying precuts. However, my lack of mathematical skills cause me major problems in working with fabric so many times you could say I'm still a beginner.
I’m new to quilting. And the problem that I have is when I cut up my squares they’re not the same size so therefore with me being a perfectionist and a little OCD I get frustrated when my squares don’t lineup. Is that normal or is this something that have to be done when you’re learning how to quilt always?
Well, I got two jelly roll tops done and now I need to do the quilting. I just have a regular singe that I picked up about 7 years ago and I don't recall if there is a free form foot or not. ( Free form foot???? is that the right term?). not even sure what question to start with. I guess that I need to add the stuffing and the backing and then start to consider the actual quilt stitching.
2:43 pm est So, my grandmother taught me how to sew and quilt but it has been quite a while. I had no idea there was so much detail in knowing what to do. I mainly just did blocks and hand quilted with yarn put batting and a backing on it and voila, I was finished. Now that I've gotten older and I am really wanting to make.a beautiful quilt I'm lost. I recently started a rag quilt for my daughter, not enough fabric for backing and not the correct foot for my machine. So needless to say I am very frustrated. Please help
You call me crazy, but I am working on my first EPP quilt using Tula Pink pattern 'Tula's Bloomers". I am giving it my own spin, doing some fussy cutting and I am thinking of quilting it on my home sewing machine. Any tips for me? Thanks.
I'm very interested in quilting & have watched so many video's in the last few months.. I have a small, inexpensive sewing maching that's not quite big enough to quilt & couldn't handle the job. I've made quillo's, lap throws & a small weighted blanket through the years but nothing bigger. I've never tried quilting & desperately want to. What "starter" machine would you recommend that wouldn't cost an arm & a leg? I'm open to buying used. I really don't know anything about all the new fancy stuff. LOL
I have made four quilts but still Struggle with even sides. Pattern a designs. I need pattern ideas and measurements so I can cut correct. I struggle with siid" design.
Love your bargello quilt and I have made one but I am really reluctant what would be best design for quilting now .... straight lines or free motion ?😊 Love from Pakistan ....
I’m a new quilter and I just finished my fist big quilt. A 60x60 modern log cabin (#orchidperidot) but I have 1 problem. I have only done quilting in the ditch so I have no idea how finish it 😩. I have the machine, I have some rulers, now I just need some easy ideas and lots of courage!!! Help please 🙏, can’t wait for the videos.
