I'll be making horticultural charcoal (biochar) soon - and that needs inoculating with microbes before I can sell it. So here's a video on how to make your own compost tea...
Ok, here are some important website links. Please check them out..
This is our other channel - Way Out West Workshop Stuff
/ @wayoutwest-workshopst...
this is Sandra's GoFundMe page - please throw in a few pennies to help her build a barn..
www.gofundme.c...
here's our two online stores where you can see some of the craft things we make and sell..

If you would like to help and encourage us then please do! It's easy and means such a lot..
One-off donation - www.paypal.me/...
and here's our Patreon page where you can see more of our plans and dreams. (Remember even 5 dollars would make a BIG difference to us and we'd be very grateful.)

Here's Sandra's Horse Therapy website.. www.hairyhenry...
You can find the RU-vid Union here - fairtube.info
and finally our FaceBook page / way.outwest.524 (Not quite sure what to do with this but we put photos and extra comments when we get around to it..)
Thank you!

Thank you very much for the video. It is still very cold here in Toronto, Canada, there is still snow on the ground, but I have been collecting kitchen vegetable and fruit waste in 5 gallon buckets, which are currently frozen outside. In preparation for this last fall I collected brown leaves. In April I will start my compos tea. Well done Tim. 👍👍👍Thank you for sharing. Take care of yourselves, be safe, and healthy 🇨🇦

Excellent tips! I've heard quite a bit recently about soil microbe health as a key factor in making nutrients bioavailable for plants. This seems like a great way to go.

It's all makes sense, doesn't it? The microbes deconstruct the vegetation, die, and become the nutrients needed for the next plants..

Great video thanks! I tried it last year in a wheelie bin but didn’t aerate it - it seemed to work okay but boy did it smell ….. I’ll invest in a small air compressor and some hosepipe and try your method. 😊👍

From Elaine Ingham's lectures, my understanding of compost tea was that the source of the microbes extracted ought to be from aerobic microbes bred in a static pile compost. I'd certainly of thought the microbes on sea weed being from salt water might not be accustomed to terrestrial soil.

A good day is a day with 2 WoW videos! This one puts me to shame because even though I don’t have horse manure, I really have no excuse but I don’t make compost-tea. I do however put the ashes from the wood stove (lots of K=potassium) on my veggie garden and around my fruit trees

Dear Sandra and Tim. 👍👌👏 Brewing some compost tea seems a really nice Idea! 2) Please kindly allow me to suggest something: Maybe a small air pump for pond aeration powered by a small photovoltaic/solar system (as a set usually easy and cheap to get), will be able to help not wasting 230V Energie for the compressor in the future. Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health.

Thanks Tim, for filling in the blanks… Looking forward to the charcoal vid and then maybe we can get down to business 👍🏻 One last request can you reaffirm what the inoculated charcoal will do i.e. is it good for boggy ground rehabilitation… we live on a hill so drainage isn’t a problem but anaerobic soil maybe is as its soggy and definitely not friable.. We have just taken delivery of tons of mushroom mulch and we were thinking the charcoal may also help.. No idea how much we need or if we can fully afford it but thats why we’re here… to find out maybe by a bit of experimentation.. thanks again
@WayOutWestx2
@WayOutWestx2 Год назад
Essentially charcoal is just a honeycomb of microscopic chambers - filled with air and water. That makes a good place for microbes to live, but also helps prevent flooding and drought. The partical size also helps break up heavy clayey soils. And of course it's permanent - the charcoal will still be there in 1000 years. In your case I think it will improve drainage and help keep oxygen down in the soil. Would you like a bag for free to test it?

Thanks Tim, we are up n Mayo so we might do a run down your end some time over the next few weeks and see the sights of Cork. Thanks for your kind offer but to keep things on an even keel we might be able to do a trade, for an experimental bag or two.. Are you in need of any power tools, I have a few industrial 110v Hitachi grinders or Bossh industrial half sheet sanders so any good to you? I been collecting tools for years and have several duplicates, is there anything in particular you would make use of?

What air compressor did u use
@ryandelatte3294
@ryandelatte3294 8 месяцев назад
Nice set up but the reason your only supposed to use compost is because good Compost has been breaking down and aerated for months which means it contains all the good bacteria fungi nematodes etc. adding that other stuff will risk the likelihood of you getting bad bacteria added in. The air is used to break the glues of these microbes suspending them in liquid you also want to apply immediately and don’t let it sit there without the bubbles or it will go anaerobic creating bad bacteria.

Careful using horse manure for this! - if the hay the horses have been fed comes from fields that have been sprayed with herbicide, it WILL survive the digestive system of the horses and when used as fertilizer it will stunt/kill any broad leaf plants you have. It will also survive this tea process also. You need to be sure the horses your manure came from haven't been fed hay from treated fields - many folks who keep horses buy hay in from somewhere else and this can easily be a problem. Fortunately the chemical will break down if exposed to sunlight so if you inadvertently put some of this on your garden all is not lost. Just let the plot sit fallow for a season and till it regularly to keep the soil exposed to as much sunlight as you can. Cheers.
@WayOutWestx2
@WayOutWestx2 Год назад
why would the hay fields be sprayed while the grass is growing?
@covishen

@@WayOutWestx2 Typically, at least here in the US, everything is sprayed to control the "weeds". Unless it's labeled organic.
