Thanks!! It's just copper wire wrapped around and around and around a mandrel and then oxidized. So much fun! Maybe we will do a segment in the future!
I cannot thank you enough for all your videos. im just starting out making jewelry and i have some anxiety where to start or how to put my ideas together. your videos have relieved so much stress and inspired me. i love your ideas, how you teach, and the transcripts are so helpful. i watch you with breakfast and im so happy. i wish i could pay just to sit through a week of classes. thankyou again
Susan, Susan, Susan, Thank you so much for this video. It has gotten my creative juices flowing again after not caring about doing anything during this lockdown! You’re the best!
I love this ring!! My favorite is a labradorite too. Those stones are gorgeous!! I also love the wrapped ring in this video any chance for a tutorial?? Thx Deanne
Susan I miss you. I no longer can view jewelry tv 😭. Long story but I have my phone! Thank YOU, for these wire ring tutorials! Been making all kinds of jewelry so been wanting to make the rings you wore on the show. ❤❤❤ again thank you and love you and the other girls too. Happy holidays!
Carmen, don't fret! You can watch JTV's Jewel School online through our website! As long as you have an internet connection and your cell phone, your golden! www.jtv.com/show/jtv-live Download JTV's app in the app store and there is a link through that as well. Thanks for watching!
Hey Susan really good tutorial, love your channel. Would you show us how to do the simply wrapped ring that you are wearing without a stone or anything, that’d be awesome! Thank you so much!

This girl is the only one I have see so far that explained in a easy way, and that her knowledge and voice make it a positive experience. I love this one.
Thanks!! It's just copper wire wrapped around and around and around a mandrel! And then oxidized. So much fun! Maybe we will do a segment in the future!
I love the idea of using buttons to make rings! Buttons come in all sorts of amazing designs, so you can make unusual and striking rings without spending a lot on beads. (And of course you can glue buttons onto pin backs, or make them into pendants, or almost anything else.)
Thank you so much! I love the technique of using the 24 or 26 gauge wire, if the hole is too small. I'd like a tutorial on filling a hand made pendant shape with resin. Thanks, Carol
Hi Carol! Here is the most recent resin video we have: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PwGn2wNJb3k.html We hope to have more resin tutorials in the future!
Susan, this was just the tutorial I needed! Thank you. I have a question though. What temper wire are you using? I was told that if the temper is not given to assume it is dead soft, but in this case I want to make sure. Thank you!
Hi Dora! Unfortunately, JTV doesn't carry that particular bead right now, but we do have a variety of beads in which to choose from. Many that resemble the color of the ocean. Here are a couple of links for you, good luck! Thank you you made it look easy. I will try it when I get home. I haven’t watched your show for a while now. Was wondering what happened to Sherry is she no longer there?
Thanks for the showing the technique for the smaller beads. I've made several rings and never thought about wrapping the smaller bead onto the 20g wire. Also I definitely need a vise for my mandrel it looks so much easier than trying to hold it.
Brilliant video on the rings never thought at put small hole beads on the thinner wire then attach to 20 gauge what a lovely bracelet are they coral tube beads . would it be possible for you to do a video on how you made the bracelet
So glad you like! Yes, they are coral beads. That's what we call a cha-cha bracelet. You can use this technique to create one of your own! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oC3T22SFDnk.html?mcid=XSOjsyt
Hi Susan, You explain that these rings typically shrink by 1 size during assembly. I have 3 questions if I may ask, please: 1) Is the shrinkage on account of the number of times the ends of the wire are wrapped around the shank during the finishing stages with 20G wire? 2) Is it due to the ring mandrel's conical shape which requires the maker to size up by one number and secretly hope the concept of average band diameters above and below the center stone make it a near-accurate fit? 3) Considering the 1 size shrinkage with 20G wire, how much upsize should be considered for 18G and 22G wire? Thank you for the smart and creative videos! Extra credit test question (j/k): How much upsize allowance would be needed if the end of the wire was wrapped around the entire grouping of shank wires?
Thanks!! It's just copper wire wrapped around and around and around a mandrel! And then oxidized. So much fun! Maybe we will do a segment in the future!
I enjoy every time I get to watch you. I always go away feeling that I could accomplish your instructions. Thank you so.much and thank you for your enthusiasm. You really are an artist!
Did the button have a shank on the back? Could you give a price range you would charge for these rings at a craft show? My first time watching you, I subscribed😍
I have the same ring mandrel and it's so heavy I have a hard time holding it while wrapping the wire. I see you use some sort of vise to hold it horizontally. Fabulous solution! Hint on the vise? I love this simple design. Thank you!
@@chazrowe1111 It seems to have some kind of different holder than a standard vice. This one seems to hold the mandrel in a horizontal position more securely.
Love these fun rings!! You make it look so easy too, can't wait to try them. LOVE your videos!! Ps what is the thingamajig called that clamps and holds your ring mandrell? I find it heavy and awkward to hold it on its own!
I have 2 mandrels. One is heavy and looks a lot like yours, but it is very hard to read. The other is a lightweight made of hard plastic or metal and it seems to be more accurate in size. I tend to use it more.
I'm wondering if you can show how to wrap a bead where the hole is drilled top to bottom.. I want a north and south ring from a bead not drilled on the correct side!
Thank you Susan for such an informative wire education! I really am impressed! I really have had little info or instruction on various types of wire and have just blindly “sink or swim” through my projects! I am so anxious to put my new knowledge to work! I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your programs. Bless you!
We showed this recently on the broadcast show! We used a wire 'macrame' technique. We haven't demo'd that on RU-vid but we will keep it in mind for a future episode!
Wow Susan.. those are so lovely and easy to make.. I have some semi precious stones with teeny tiny holes and your Tuesday ring model is a blessing.. will definately try that technique..
Because of you I have been able to make rings for me and I just made some rings for my mom thank you very much they are beautiful and I love them. I am now addicted. Thank you.
Hello Dianne! It's just copper wire wrapped around and around and around a mandrel! And then oxidized. So much fun! Maybe we will do a segment in the future!
Great technique! I especially like the hints of tucking the wire slightly behind the larger beads and of attaching 24 gauge to 20 gauge for small hole beads. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
It's really tough to do because the gem with the hole is the anchor for the wire, but we should ask Susan to see if she has any ideas and can maybe do a tutorial. Thanks for the suggestion!
What do you call the device that holds the ring mandrel in place, so your hands are free to work with wire while making rings? Do you do any tutorials while using bracelet mandrel (round & oval shaped bracelets)?
This is a ring mandrel vise. An internet search for those exact keywords should get you to one! We have several tutorial using bracelet mandrels both in oval and round: Soldering a Wavy Bangle: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WBlo3BzUcRc.html Easy No Solder Wavy Bangles: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6E3qx0M-9Mk.html Flower Power Bangles: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pLZCx2O9gKU.html How to Make No solder Bangles: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JDowPLObaJc.html How to Make No Solder Bangles Part 2: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t4OJN8gSBzE.html How to Make Candy Bangles: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2VvOEY9aLlA.html
This was just the tutorial I needed. Thank you. I also really liked the copper wire ring you're wearing and would be lovely if you can make a video how to make that too!
Hi! Susan said a friend of hers made this for her and she hopes to have her on soon to do a tutorial, but it's just copper wire wrapped around and around and around a mandrel and then oxidized using liver of sulfur.
What is holding your ring mandrel and what type of flush cutters are you using? I have bought 5 different flush cutters in the past year and every one of them has been garbage.
Hi Barbara! The ring mandrel is being held by a simple table vise. You can find them at your local hardware store or online. Just search, "jewelry mandrel vise." Here is a link to the exact flush cutters Susan is using: www.jtv.com/product/xuron-tapered-head-micro-shear-tm-flush-cutter/PLIER120?mcid=XSOjsyt
You can file them with a flat file or a wire rounder before tucking them under. The key is to really get them tucked into the wire underneath. You can also try getting a pair of precision tweezer nose pliers. It helps you get wire into tight places a little more easily.
Susan, you always tell us to go to the bottom to see suppliers when we can get the materials...I can never get to the bottom!! Where do I go to see the supplies to purchase for these projects? It is a frustration!
Try using a 1.5mm one-step looper instead! It's great for beginners until you can master making the loops and wrapping by hand! www.jtv.com/product/vintaj-basic-1-step-looper-trims-and-loops-head-pins-and-eye-pins-in-1-easy-step/JST578?mcid=XSOjsyt
You are awesome! You make that look so simple. I think I'm going to give it a try though. I know you used a vise to hold the mandrel, but how did you get it to stay so straight when you were pushing on the wire?
Love your technique!!! I make Jewelry but have only made a couple rings now I'm going to make them like you!!! Thank you for Ring inspiration!!! I just subbed 😍🎀💕
this is great video .i need practice and a better mandrell and that thing you have the mandrelll into .i need to know what that is called .thank you for learning how to make all this beautiful jewelry.i love watching
Deborah, the mandrel holder is called a 'vise' and you can get one online or at your local hardware store. Try finding one with a "swivel head." You can do it! Just keep practicing!
Huh? Funny but it sounded like you said "flesh cutter", when you listed the tools you'd need! (Must help when you're creating the correct size ring - hee hee hee.) YIKES!!
You can use a non-tarnish coated wire and also you can use a jewelry sealer. Do a quick internet search for Alchemy Jewelry Sealer or just jewelry sealer. Most of these products spray on, but will need to be re-applied every few weeks to months, depending.
