This woman is amazing. Just called the upholstery shop, they wanted $800.00 for 4 - 40" rv cushions. I didn't even want cording on the edges. I respect the trade but, absolutely not. I can sew a bit so this was perfect. Thank you Stephanie. I appreciate the teachers of the world and people like you willing to take the time to do this.

Thank you for this video. I’m an old Carpenter /house rehab guy working on restoring a vintage iron furniture set and,believe it or not, It is impossible to find someone to make a slipcover other than very expensive upholstery shop. So, I decided to do it myself and your video was exactly what I needed. You have a great sense of working in three dimensional space (like a carpenter or architect) And made the whole process perfectly clear. It is kinda amusing how similar upholstery is to finish carpentry in many ways. I may take up sewing as a hobby in bad weather.

Perfect!!! I am SO happy to have found this tutorial. I am a mediocre seemstress and have not sewn in many years. I searched so many videos before deciding to follow this technique. Very simple and they look great! I did choose to put a Velcro closure on the bottom so they can be removed and washed. Thank you so much!!!

I know this was done several years ago, but it was SO HELPFUL to me! I haven't sewn in at least a decade but want to cover our new (to us) camper cushions without using a board and staples. This felt very doable! Thank you for explaining everything so well. Can't wait to check out what your camper remodel looks like overall!

It isn’t necessary at all. Period. Thank you again for a very helpful video. Someone on one of the RV forums I am a member of just redid her cushions by following your video. Thanks for the video Stephanie! Let me share what has worked very well for me for FREE!, much of which I've learned from my brother who is a professional upholster, with making a new bench or van bench seat or boosting old car seat foam: For car seats that need boosting, most often they just need more foam added to be like new again, I find used carpet pad foam often in a neighbor's trash or dumpster behind a carpet store. Remove the car seat fabric clips and carefully peel the front and sides of the fabric to gain access under the seat foam core, which often requires the seat be unbolted from the floor. Place a sheet of it or two under the seat foam core, right on top of the spring wire deck(carpet pad foam is tougher than the core so this also stops the spring wire deck from cutting into the seat foam core bottom). Your second sheet can be cut smaller just covering the area the butt sits on. Also inspect the top of the foam core and add carpet pad foam or regular foam where might be needed like by the door, worn from getting in and out over the years. Spray adhesive can be used to bond the foam to the foam but is not necessary except for any top foam added. Your seats will be firm and new like for many years now, it's like free magic! The seat back usually doesn't need a any foam because it's the seat that gets the body weight on it from gravity. If you seat back should need a boost, you can add polyfill batting on top of the foam for free-see below. These methods can also be used on sofa seat cushions. I'll share below where to find FREE used good foam below! To make a bench- where to get free foam: there is so much FREE foam and FREE polyfill - in many soft pillow backs and polyfill batting often wrapped around foam cushions for the taken in people's discarded sofa's and chairs found outside dumpsters at apartment complexes and the back of thrift stores. Even though it's used, it has been well protected covered inside the upholstery. Of course in the event it's a cat lady's furniture and the cats happened to piss all over it, you'll smell it and know to move on lol Most apartments don't allow pets or make it expensive to have a pet so a lot of furniture is pet free. Use a box cutter to open the old furniture to get at the free foam or poly as you need or use the zipper you'll find on some pieces. Some foam in old sofas contain like a 1" thick panel of foam on top of other foam that is perfect thickness to add to your sofa foam to give it the new boost again. Foam can be cut to size using a hack saw loose blade only in your hand holding the end making a sawing motion. New foam looses some of it's firmness over a break in period, say after 5 years depending on how much it's sat on. But then the broken in foam lasts a very very long time at that softer level firmness before it really starts to break down. You might be able to buy complete new expensive foam cushion cores but they will sag after the break in period as well. This is why so often we love a new firm piece of furniture but then it gets soft and saggy on us. Now the sofa companies could to put super firm more expensive foam in their sofa's when new that might be a perfect firmness for us when broken after the 5 years break in period, but then we wouldn't buy the sofa if it's not nice to sit on from the beginning in the show room, so there's the dilemma when you fabric is still in great shape after 5 years but the foam is now sagging. The free fix: So just add more foam if you can firms it up to make it like new again, unzip and compress the foam as you slowly peel off your fabric from the cushion core. Then either add more foam to the top or bottom or hack blade saw through the center horizontal line of the foam core all the way from the back to almost through the front but not through, so you leave a good hinge of foam in the front. Then place about a 1" thick of used foam in the sandwich and holding it closed peel the fabric back over the foam cushion. You can also add more polyfill pad to the cushion core on it's outside to add more softness and support but adding more foam is the big boost. Spray adhesive is optional to bond the foam to the foam. People often think that when the seat sags that the springs under the cushions, have weakened but no, it's the foam, the springs are metal and strong, the foam is just foam. Discarded trash at a dumpster is free for the taking and your reducing what goes to our planet's landfill. This is win win, real free hard core recycling, helping to save our environment as well! Take care!

THANK YOU!! I never thought I'd be able to make cushion covers and now thanks to you I just finished them. Your video and ideas are so appreciated. You made it seem so simple and it actually was 😀 I can't wait to use the pop up trailer this weekend with new curtains and new patterns and colors on the cushions. I wished you had a video of how you made the valances. Thank you....thank you....thank you
@FarrellFocus
@FarrellFocus 7 лет назад
Yay!!! I'm so excited for you!! I would love to see pics! For my valances, I reused the plastic strip of sliders that were on the original valances, I just started with a seam ripper and pulled apart. Super easy. Just tear them apart. Then sew them on your new ones. I ran out of the sliders and had to order online. I used the instructions found on the Pop Up Princess. www.thepopupprincess.com/ It depends on what kind of trailer you have. Mine is a Rockwood, so I had the plastic strip. I ordered extra on amazon. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002UC4S7M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They are pricey....so that is why I reused the old strips. Good Luck!!

Stephanie Farrell Focus Just so you know, within the past two years since we’ve purchased our first travel trailer, I’ve viewed many, many tutorials, I found yours this morning and so glad I did because that was the best one! I am a very seasoned sore, but very apprehensive about tackling something like this. Our back cushions have a indentation down the middle of it across the back so I would just make a slip cover to come down past the indentation. Your method has inspired me. I want to go the French Country look, can’t wait till I find that perfect fabric happy camping and happy sew!🤗

This is perfect and exactly what I was looking for!! I do know how to sew, but I don't want to waste a lot of time. I don't have the board in my camper cushions and they are in good shape with vinyl bottoms so I would like to just wash and keep the original covers on and just make a slip like cover that I can remove and wash. If I leave 3/4 to an inch jut out on that side seam then I can just sew in some velcro there and they will easily be removable to wash! Thank you so much for this excellent easy breezy idea!! 😍🙌

Nice job! I used basically the same method for recovering the cushions in 2 RVs now. I left my opening in the back though, and did not have a board in any of the cushions I did, so was able to make the opening smaller.. I added velcro to the openings so I could remove the covers to wash if needed. We travel with 2 dogs and 2 cats who love to be on the furniture. Off to watch your other videos! Thanks!

Stephanie Farrell Focus , thanks for your interest, we bought an old motorhome (RV to you) and have completely renovated the interior, using your brilliant guidance, you have a very good way of explaining yourself, Mal my partner ( the seamstress in our relationship) kept watching again and again on each step, there is a 3 minute RU-vid video of the finished product .....lovely RITA 20 yr old hymer makeover/ refurb sorry but I'm terrible at adding links

I love your tutorial - you really help show how to fold those corners nicely. Just an idea for the bottom - instead of needle and thread, you can sew a long strip of velcro - it would make it a bit easier than by hand, plus no messing with a zipper.

Love the simple approach to the corners.If you are concerned the tread tail will pull through there is a easy fix.double knot the tail then stitch inside of right panel then into the outside of left panel. Send the needle then between the two threads above the tail knot.Draw it tight then from inside of left to outside of right for all fallowing stitches.Thread tail knot can never pull through.

cathy roncetti I'm so glad that helped. It's not that hard, and it gets easier and faster as you go. If your going to hand sew the whole thing, get some of those finger protectors, they probably have them at Joann's. And, sometimes I use pliers to pull my needle through the thick parts. Good luck and I would love to see your cushions when your done! 😍

Great video, i always over think these things so this is nice and simple. Don’t know if anyone else suggested this, but putting your thread through beeswax makes it not knot, lol, and using a curved upholstery needle to sew up your bottom seam may be easier.
