18 years ago, when we moved to Australia, we were poor as church mice. I tore out a shortbread recipe from a magazine & regularly made shortbread to help put stuff in my son's school lunchbox & in the cupboard. Homemade shortbread is the only thing better than Walkers shortbread. Thanks for spreading the joy of making shortbread at home. Great content as usual 😎👏👏👏Lang may yer lum reek 💕
💓... From a Glaswegian living in Cambodia... Was missing the tastes of home then found your channel.... I've made soooo much shortbread in the last couple of months it's ridiculous... Did the Millionaire too, tablet, potato scones and others. Everything apart from my improved waistline sends so many thanks for the videos and recipes x
💖 Your videos bring me such joy! I’m in the state of Oklahoma in the USA, but I spent 10 days in Scotland learning about my heritage through family and the Presbyterian Church. I miss Scotland so, and look forward to visiting again someday! Your voice reminds me of that wonderful trip, and your food is always delicious! I’ll be making these tomorrow!!
💜 I have a question, you said you use the 1 2 3 Method however your recipe doesn't match that. You used 150gr butter 75gr sugar 225gr flour..the 123 would be 150gr butter 300gr sugar and 450gr flour..so I am confused as to which amounts to use. Love your channel and have been watching you A LOT. My grandfather was Scottish and I miss his accent. Yours is lovely and the scenery at the end is GORGEOUS. You live in a beautiful place. Thank you. 😍
My wee granddaughter just made this with just a very little bit of help from nanny and she’s so delighted with herself. It turned out perfectly and is so delicious. She is already asking ‘what can we make next’. Thank you Cheryl for such a great child friendly recipe.
Cheryl, I really like your videos. I am from Russia, but I have been living in US for the last 20 years. We went to Scotland a few years ago. It was fantastic experience! Scottish people are so friendly (just like yourself) with a great sense of humor. We loved everything about Scotlad, especially food & I am so glad to discover your channel to try some authentic recipes. Thank you very much!
In your videos you've reminded me of my Dad buying a bag of tatties as big as a coal mans sack on payday. The nearer to payday the bigger the tatties and the less mud to rub off when we peeled them using two buckets, one to rinse the mud and one to store the peeled tatty. The day before payday it was rooting around in the dirt at the bottom of the sack to make fritters or chats. Happy days😀
🩷 I have some tiny choc chips and wasn't sure what I would do with them. I've decided that I'll be baking your shortbread for family this Christmas 🩷 Thank you for this recipe
I found this video by chance, fell in love with the easy recipe and procedure, tried it immediately. Well, amazing shortbreads have just come out of my oven! Thank you
You did it again Cheryl. This is a winner. Immediately after watching this video, my wife headed to the kitchen to make a batch. After allowing them to cool a bit we each tried one, then a second, then a third, then.... We had to wrap them up and avoid the kitchen to keep from continuing to eat them.
I'm from Stirling but for the past year I've been living in the states, I miss home so much! I love doing your recipes Cheryl, It's impossible to find square sausage in the US and your recipe with some brown sauce has helped with some of the home sickness lol. Can't wait to be back in Scotland, it's just no the same here!
PINK HEART! LOL!! I could listen to you talk all day, such a lovely, gentle voice. Thank you for welcoming us into your kitchen. These look perfect, I could eat a whole pan myself.
Pink heart! Growing up outside of New York City, in Yonkers, NY, a friends mother was from Scotland. I so enjoyed her shortbread and a cake that she would make when company was coming. Can't remember that name of it, but it was a buttery dense yellow cake with currants. Thanks for bringing back a sweet memory from 40 plus years ago!
Oh my.. my partner is making these today.. probably won't get chocolate chips up the local shop but will use buttons. Made plain shortbread before but this looks lovely 👌
💜💗I know this isn't pink but its the closest I have. Oh Cheryl these look so tasty. They wouldn't last 24 hours in this house. I am going to have to try these and add come chopped pecans or walnuts. Again I love seeing the beautiful green countryside at the end of the video. Have a blessed day.
Hi there Cheryl 👋 i love watching Your videos I made your plain Scottish shortbread Everyone loved it,😋😋😋😋👏👏👍👍👍 so I will definitely be adding chocolate Thank you 💖🇬🇧
I adore shortbread ~ especially if I don’t have to toll them out. Thanks for the recipe…I’m going to try it. BTW the easiest way to make your own caster sugar is to just put regular sugar in a blender and grind it up to make it finer. ❤️
I love shortbread especially during the holidays. My mom made amazing shortbread cookies, but they have to be rolled out and cut, and I just don't have time for that. I've broken down and bought the Walker ones over the last couple of years to have during the holidays. But this recipe looks simple enough that I think I'll try it this coming Christmas season.
While Walker's are good, they are just such a different creature to homemade. I'm just the opposite of you; I love to roll out and cut cookies. I focus in on the task and that's all there is in my head. So relaxing for me.
I've just found your wonderful recipes on RU-vid & really enjoying listening to your lovely soft accent as you show us how to bake all these fantastic cakes & biscuits. My husbands family were all Scottish & its just like listening to a warm familiar relative talking to me. Love the recipes, love how you present it all, thank you so much.
Hello from Ontario Canada loved the video nice and simple will give them a try. lol!my partner would have done exactly the same as yours!he loves shortbread lucky for him he hooked up with a lassy from my beloved home Scotland! Take care🐝🏴💗
💖 So easy! I love shortbread but don’t buy it because I’ve been disappointed when it was made with cheap ingredients like margarine or crisco. Never added chocolate chips. Could try butterscotch bits instead, too. Take care and be safe!
PINK HEART-My old gran came out from Scotland in 1915. In fact, her whole family did. One of her younger sisters made the best shortbread ever. That was when I was approx' 4. I'm now 70. Boy, I adored homemade Scottish Shortbread. Got to give this a try for sure!!!
Thanks, Cheryl. Now that I live in Sweden I can't buy shortbread so I tried to make my own. Problem was that the recipe asked me to roll out the dough thinly and then bake the stuff at too high a temperature so I ended up with overcooked very hard biscuits! Now that you have shown me the proper way to make shortie I'll have another go with much more confidence this time. Best wishes on the diet (I've lost three stones already this year by eating just one meal a day ... it works!). 😘
Just so you know, we do have caster sugar in the States, we just call it superfine sugar. If you don't score the shortbread dough before you bake it, as you do, you have to cut it while the shortbread is still quite warm. If you wait until it's cooled, it won't cut properly and you'll make a right old mess. I love your posts!
Luv luv shortbread. My grandmother made shortbread when I was much younger, miss it. Buy Walkers . Will def. Be trying it. Tku..😍 best to u n urs. Stay safe n healthy. 💜
