May I be so bold as to give you a tip? When you pin material put your pins across where you are sewing, then the machine will sew over them without you having to remove them. If you are not too sure about this, slow down as you come to a pin, you will see that the needle will simply push the pin to the side and carry on sewing. This is especially good for when you incorporate zips, it is easier to keep the material in place as there is no risk of it moving whilst you remove the pin.

Almost nobody uses pins anymore we use either Wonder tape or glue

Pin Place,ent is often dictated by the way you want to keep the fabric from moving - sometimes perpendicular to throw seam and sometimes with the seam.

Never sew over a pin. Always remove them just before getting to them on the seam. When I was new to sewing, using my brand new 1969 Golden Touch-n-sew, I ran over a pin. The machine needle broke at its weakest point - the eye. The tiny piece from the eye to the point flew up at my eye, missing my eyeball by a fraction of an inch, hitting me in the skin next to my eye. Since 1969, I never intentionally ran over a pin again. I remember this lesson learned and I try to warn others of what can happen.

I don’t understand the fabric sizes for the scrunchie. The 6.5” pieces, yes. Zipper length? The other is obviously 8.5”; is that the width? It seems that would make a tiny scrunchie. I’m confused.
