Welcome to Bear’s Recipes! Today, we're making an easy and delicious slow cooker tender pork carnitas. This recipe is perfect for busy days when you want to come home to a house that smells amazing and have a meal almost ready to go. Follow along for a step-by-step guide to creating mouthwatering pork carnitas.
Ingredients:
2 lbs pork butt or shoulder
10 cloves garlic
1 onion
3 bay leaves
1/2 tbsp salt
1/2 tbsp pepper
1 tbsp dried oregano
1 tbsp cumin
1/2 tbsp cayenne pepper
2 oranges (juice and then add the remainder)
1 lime (juiced)
To serve with:
Tortillas, red onions, avocado, cotija cheese, lime, salsa, avocado
Steps:
1. Place the pork butt or shoulder in your slow cooker.
2. Add 10 cloves of garlic.
3. Add chopped onion
4. Drop in 3 bay leaves.
5. Sprinkle 1/2 tablespoon of salt and pepper
6. Add 1 tablespoon of dried oregano.
7. Add 1 tablespoon of cumin.
8. Sprinkle 1/2 tablespoon of cayenne pepper.
9. Squeeze the juice of 2 oranges into the slow cooker, then add the
remainder of the oranges.
10. Squeeze the juice of 1 lime and add it to the slow cooker.
11. Mix all the ingredients together in the slow cooker.
12. Cover with a lid and cook on low for 8 hours.
13. After 8 hours, remove the meat and place it on a baking tray lined with
aluminum foil.
14. Shred the meat with a fork.
15. Add a few scoops of the juices from the slow cooker on top of the
shredded meat.
16. Broil in the oven for 5-10 minutes, ensuring it doesn't burn. Stir
occasionally to crisp evenly.
17. Serve with your favorite taco toppings: red onions, avocado, cotija
cheese, a little lime, and salsa.
