We made these last week and they tasted amazing! I'm wondering if maybe increasing the amount of chili powder will make it taste more like a burger, but as it's own thing it tastes amazing! I'm going to experiment a bit more.

That's a great idea! In fact, increasing all spices called for in the recipe by 1/4 - 1/2 tsp may really amp up the flavors. So happy you liked the recipe - and thanks for the comment!

The taste is great although next time I’ll up the spices as mentioned. BUT...the patties don’t hold together - they are too wet! Any suggestions? Bread crumbles maybe??

For me, the trick is to flip them very carefully. You can certainly try adding additional bread crumbs, too!

I became a vegan after watching several of your videos and trying them out. I've been a vegan for just over 6 months now. Unfortunately it has caused me to have some health problems. I started to notice that my energy level went from normal to almost nothing and I went from a little over weight to under weight. I went to my doctor and he ran a few tests. Come to find out I was low on several vitamins and iron! My doctor told me to stop the vegan lifestyle for now so he could get me healthy again. Come to find out being under weight is just as bad for your health as being over weight. Now I'm having to take several prescription medications in order to be healthy again. It's going to take months for me to get well from this not to mention all the pills I've got to take and I hate taking pills! So for anyone who wants to become a vegan please be careful and pay attention to your body before you become sick like me. Audrey if you have any advice or if you can tell me what I did wrong I would really appreciate it.

Hey Angel, thank you so much for sharing this with me. Since the vegan/plant based diet isn't extremely common yet, the knowledge on how to properly go about it isn't common yet either - and this goes for doctors, as well! My first thought to share is this (since you shared that you're now taking a lot of pills) - when you go see a medical doctor, in most cases, when there's a problem that doctor will likely try and fix it with medicine. After all, that's what their area of expertise is. Think about it - "medical" = "medicine." Also: The majority of medical doctors had three days or LESS of nutrition training during their four years of medical school! The truth of the matter is, if a medical doctor wants to know anything about nutrition, they need to go out of their way to learn it on their own, just like the rest of us. My suggestion is this: see a naturopath or Integrative doctor instead! I can't stress this enough. These doctors aren't necessarily vegan, but they do take a holistic approach to healing so that you are less likely to have to take medications and more likely to heal yourself for good (without reoccurring problems in the future.) These types of doctors know there is A LOT of powerful healing that can be done through food, herbs and stress management, and can teach you the lifestyle habits that would work best for you for maximum healing, rather than just write you a prescription. So, I suggest try jumping on Yelp and find one that you like that has high ratings. You can even work with one over the phone and through emails if they aren't near you. Otherwise, I will say this: vegan or omnivore - you can be unhealthy on either diet (there are a lot of unhealthy foods out there that are vegan.) And, you can have an iron deficiency on either diet. Some people just don't absorb iron well, meat eaters or not. But I will say, you have certainly inspired me to share more advice on how to approach healthy living and a plant based diet. I love cooking and creating recipes but I see now that there is a lot of knowledge I have that needs to be shared when it comes to the plant based diet. Thanks again for sharing with me... you can expect to see me tackling more health promoting topics in the very near future! All the best to you, Angel. Please keep me posted on how you're doing!

I hate flax, no matter what it is in, it just has the vomit aftertaste. Good idea for this burger but I'll use corn starch and use that as my glue.
