What a pretty stitch! Does it need any particular number of stitches in the foundation row? For example, does it need to be an even or odd number of stitches? I think I'd like to make a lap blanket. Thanks

You can start this on a chain or any other crochet stitch because it is just a variation of the half double crochet. Doesn't matter about the number of stitches. The most important thing is to remember to always make 2 stitches at the end of the row as I show on the video, otherwise you lose one stitch on every row. - This is ideal for a lap blanket!

You need to do that ever time, otherwise it doesn't stay even.

It is one I had in my stash, aran weight 80% wool, 20% nylon, one bought in Finland years ago so no longer available.

Great, this is ideal for a rug! I don't know of a name for it, I have only heard it referred to as hdc variation, and there are other variations too. Greetings from Finland 😊
