I just love how honest your tutorials are! Most channels are heavily edited with too many cuts. But you show what we actually experience when creating and making- all the mishaps and second guessing lol. Love this channel!
Thanks Diana, we rarely edit anything out - although there was a time when two Springer spaniels found their way into the studio. We don't talk about that! We try and do things in 'real' time so you have a better idea of what's achievable (and what can potentially go wrong...), c x
I was having a REALLLLLY frustrating time making stuff, NEW machine bucking and unthreading. So I decided to give it another go. Your voice and the fact that you don't edit out mistakes really helped. 8 of these to do for tomorrow. Thank you so much!
You are the best instructor I have ever had. You sew like a real home seamstress, making it very real and only giving information we need to make the item. Thank you very much!
I changed your pattern a bit. This is crazy but my brother has false teeth and wanted a pouch to put them in if his mouth got sore. I had made your oven mitts and thought it would work. I put a couple of tabs on to keep it closed. Works great. Thanks 😊
I love your precise teaching style without over chattering. Thanks very much. This will be a definite must do over and over! One of the most enjoyable tutorials!
I always liked practical gifts, even when I was a child. These would make a lovely set with a matching tea towel and larger oven mitt. Thank you for a great tutorial! God bless! 💖💖
I love your teaching style and the really great camera work. Thank you - i think even I can do these with your instructions. thanks for the links to the template etc. I SO appreciate your part about adjustig/lightening the pressure. I can't tell you how many quilts I ruined trying to quilt on a home machine without knowing about the pressure adjustment! 😆 - slow learner I guess - so... lucky are the folks who find your tutorials!
I think every sewer out there has gotten there layers wrong at one time or another on a pattern it comes with the fun of it , great little mit perfect for my hot soup bowls thanks for sharring.
Thank you very much for your tutorial. Recently I bought a casserole pan with a reduced price and I didn't realize the lid and handles get extremely hot. These finger mitts are a life saver 😅 🙏
I would use a walking foot. Well worth the money to sew through all those layers. I also added a layer of insul-bright to further pad the large side. Just the batting is not enough when grabbing hot pans. Loved your video and thank you for going slow for us beginners. I am making a bunch for Christmas presents. Looking forward to more.
Amazing....watched with no volume, while listening to music. Once the project got started, I paused and hit the subscribe button; naturally, the like came next. You are an amazing teacher and I can't wait to start this project!! Of course, with the volume on....thank you for sharing your skills, they are amazing!
Sorry, no. But the line across the centre of the inside of the mitt should measure 4" or 10cm. Our patterns are set onto UK A4 size which is 8.25" wide, you may have to enlarge it a bit for it to print out onto US paper, c x
"I've just thrown the other piece I need into the bin." "You can guarantee that within three minutes I'll have forgotten what I've done with it". LOL! Glad I'm not the only one.
You always make me happy. Thanks for your wonderful disposition. 🥰👍🥳 will definitely be making some. There’s some pot holders I have been making that have you put binding all around it. This way is WAY easier 🥳
Hello, I am on a Sewing Kick! 😁 I got my sewing machine to make some Face Masks 💙 & made some headbands that I have been wanting to make for the last year 💕 I also want to some Dog Bandanas for my Pooch 😁 & now the adorable mini oven mitt! 😁 Thank you 💜 Erica x
Hi from Czech republic. I like your videos! The oven mitt is the first project I created according to your tutorial. Well...my mitt is a lot "made-by- beginner", but I'm glad I did it :) I will certainly continue to watch your videos and sew that projects (and practice my english 😅).
Glad you like them. Could you try watching a few minutes, pausing the demo and then doing that bit of sewing so you don't have to try and remember too much at once? c x
That is such a wonderful idea! I purchased something similar made out of silicone and the heat comes thru to my fingers as soon as I touch them to a hot pan (ouch!). I will deffo make this! Thank you for sharing!
Glad you like it. If you're in any doubt put a second or thicker layer of wadding in the mitt and make the turn out gap slightly wider to accommodate the extra thickness, c x
Thanks for the great video on these mini oven mitts. It looks like a quick project and I'd like to make them to send to my granddaughter for Valentines Day and her St. Patty's Day birthday using theme fabric. I have a question about the batting. Would it be alright to use Insul-Brite in place of the batting you used? I've noticed that pot holders I have purchased in the Dollar Store don't really protect against the heat and I usually have to use two of them. Also, if I use Insul-Brite should I also use a layer of batting?
@@TheCraftsChannel Thank you ever so much for your quick reply. I will do as you have suggested. Now for another question, what is the brand name of the "piping turner" that is used in the video?
Great tutorial ... and thank-you for showing what you did there at the end ... all seams are closed and sealed ... no batting seen along the bottom inseam when you turn the mitt wrong side out. :D
No, I'm sorry there isn't. You can turn on subtitles by clicking the 'CC' button at the bottom centre right of the demo when you hover over it. These might help you, c x
If you want to use a coordinating fabric with a pattern for this project, how would you layer them? Initially your first cut-out is the main fabric with lining on top but your lining was white. Would you put fabric with different patterns WST or RST?
Been wanting to make these for some time. I bought a pair 10 years ago at a craft fair and have not been able to find them since. Question: the pair I bought have magnets so you can hang them on a refrigerator. Do you have a recommendation for what type of magnet to use. I have not been able to find any tutorials where they use magnets.
great shape, as I get older I find my mini hot pot holders aren't enough as my grip is failing. I like that this will cover my knuckles and high thumb area. TY for the pattern.
@@TheCraftsChannel I printed the template however my printer on 100% has the sides chopped off , so I printed in adobe and both pieces show in page.. can you please tell me what the top hand should measure across, so I can correctly cut them. ty sew much
@@Carylanne927 Sorry, been away. The widest part of the hand should be about 12cm (measuring a finished mitt, can't find where I've put the template!) c x
HI I saw your video Mini OVEN Mitts can i use wounde wib like the filling of the jacket s or its not good for hot things OR you can burn your hand THANKS ALOT .
Hello Marthese, Use a cotton wadding not a synthetic wadding like you get in jackets. The synthetic wadding might not protect your hands enough from heat, c x
Er, now you're asking! I think from looking at it 3.5cm by 12cm. Fold 5mm on the long edge in and then fold in half lengthwise before top stitching and folding into a loop, c x
@@seradoxa3537 Ha ha, That's what I was going to say! Although you can stretch your printed fabrics further by lining the gloves with something like old sheeting or a pillowcase, c x
I haven't done a demo, mainly because I had a nasty accident with a double oven glove and a pyrex dish of parsnips so I no longer use them! There is a demo for re-covering single gloves though if that's of any interest? c x
I made my first one, following directions and it came out beautiful, except that it is too small. I checked the template again, looking at how close your drawn curves are to the edge of your paper vs. mine, and they seem identical. The only thing I can figure is that your template paper is larger than my US standard 8.5 x 11 paper. Is that true?
Hi Cynthia, yes that could be the reason, our A4 is about 8.5 x 12 so your printer might be shrinking it down by about 7%. Your best bet is to cut the template out and then draw around it onto a new piece of paper, adding another 3/4" to the perimeter but leaving the horizontal line across the middle in the same place. Hope this helps and you can always give your too small one to a child that likes baking! c x
@@TheCraftsChannel Thank you for the info. Glad, Cynthia asked. I will be making these for our Guild's Charity event this summer. Hello from the Mendonoma Coast, California
Hi Bee, Hemline do one called a Loop Turner. Depending on where you are in the world you should get hold of one quite easily or just ask in your local haberdashers, c x
@@9159bsbs I'm sure mine's a Hemline one. Looking at the cheaper versions on Amazon UK they look very similar so I can't see why they wouldn't work. It does depend on the thickness of the fabric and width/length of the tube you're turning. Things like bag straps from quilting weight cotton are easy to turn but narrower stuff is tricky if the fabric starts bunching up, c x
Did anyone else's printed template have the horizontal line print off-centre to the rest of the mitt pattern? How to fix this? I printed "fit to page" as well as "actual size" and both were off.
Are you printing in the US? Our templates are A4 pdfs so maybe your printer tried to adjust it to fit 8" x 10". See if you can change your settings to 100% instead of 'fit to page' that might help, c x
@@@TheCraftsChannel I did choose the fit to page feature and it still looks rather small on an 8.5 x 11 paper barely the size of my hand. What is the paper size you print to and what are the detentions of the actual MIT before sewing
@@daanab5977 Hi Daana, the mitt is supposed to be small as it's just a 'grab and drop' kind of mitt as opposed to carrying hot stuff to the dinner table. The template from top to bottom of the mitt measures 21cm or 8.25". Our paper size is 21cm by 30cm (8.25" x 12") Hope this helps, c x
@@TheCraftsChannel Thanks for the info. I guess my 8.50x11 size would fit nicely. I thought it was bigger because the drawing seemed larger. Lol. Thanks a million.
Maybe not but I use them and they're fine for taking trays out of the domestic oven, holding hot pots etc. If you're planning on holding things for longer maybe put another layer in or use a thicker wadding? c x
I followed the exact same method but I added wadding to the two separate halves. That’s the same as adding another layer of wadding to the back. Works fine for 220 degress Celsius
