I will show you how to make your own template pattern and give you step by step instructions to make your finger thumb pot holders using scraps of fabrics.

Fiskars Self Healing Rotary Mat: Amazon Link

Omnigrid ruler: Amazon Link

Supplies:
-2 sheets of 60 lb paper
-rotary cutter
-pencil
-paper scissors if you are not using a rotary cutter
-Omnigrid ruler or other ruler of choice
-cutting matt
-Insul-Bright for the inside of the pot holders to aid in the protection from hot items. An 8"x 6" piece to make one pot holder
-thin poly fill for the inside of pot holder. 8" x 6" piece for one pot holder
-scraps of fabric in your choice of colors that have been pre-washed
-sewing pins
-fabric scissors
-sewing machine
-iron
-ironing board
Optional: quilting walking foot for your sewing machine
-knitting needle to assist with turning the pot holder

Thank you for the tutorial. I made one of these for myself years ago and we use it all the time. My sister passed away a few months ago and I wanted to give something useful to my BIL and niece and nephews to remember her. I used a new pair of her PJs that has butterflies all over them along with other fabric. I am happy how they turned out. Thanks again!!

These look so useful and would make perfect hostess gifts. I particularly like the demonstration with the hot pot and the egg cups. Real life in action. Really great idea - especially when a full size mitt is a bit awkward. just a quick tip for those of us with less powerful machines that may have trouble starting on a thick seam. A "hump jumper" will do the trick and you can make one up in a few minutes using your scrap fabric with some batting. (For those who may not know about them they are placed under your presser foot behind the thick area to level your foot to sew across the "hump") Thank you for your very well done tutorial.

I was just thinking the same thing about the eyes. What a delightful idea instead of oven gloves. I'm beginning to suffer with arthritis in my hands and I find oven gloves so bulky. These would be ideal for most things. I can't wait to have a go. Thank you so much, Patti, for doing this video :)

I use a glue stick to hold fabric together and it helps to keep it from sliding when I pin. Love this tutorial, thank you! Gonna make some this week.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! Fabric is getting so expensive these days, but I really wanted to make up some quick gifts for my family to take home this Christmas! Serging up that last side would make the final look very professional if you have one as well (though I zigzagged and pinked for years! lol)

Unfortunately I don't have a serger. I like to show ways for the average sewer so they can still do the projects with a basic sewing machine. That seam is hidden so at least it doesn't show. But, I hear you. It would look more professional for sure.

THANK YOU for the video and pattern.... I have made these for young kids but just scaled them down a little. I did round off the corners slightly cause I hate trying to make pointy corners since they never come out right for me.... For hubby I am making them larger. It was ingenious the way you turned the cuff to cover the raw edges.

I luv this idea thanks so much for sharing. I have made the micro-bowls and these will make the best thing to go with them because we always forget to use them in the microwave so when we want to lift the bowl in to the micro wave bowl we can without burning our fingers so cool. Yes, these smaller pot holders are really handy. I make porridge in the microwave sometimes and the bowl gets hot and I use these pot holders to lift the hot bowl. I wasn’t kidding when I said in the video that I use these pot holders almost every day,

Its funny that you mentioned that because I felt I should have mentioned that in this video. I usually have one for paper and one for material. And as you can see I was making a few passes with the rotary cutter because my blade was getting dull.
