Hi Justin, kind of an off-topic question: If, for whatever reason, you couldn't play for a while, how long do you think it would take before you'd become noticeably rusty?

I just want to say thank you, Justin. I’m 21 and have been struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts for a long time, and it’s been a long while since I’ve felt motivated to get up in the morning and not want to just go to bed as soon as I get home. I bought a second-hand guitar last year as my first instrument ever, but it was just sitting in the case for a long time, and I’d go months without practising due to a lack of general motivation. Recently, however, I’ve been practising guitar for hours and hours every day. I sit with my guitar on my lap for 4-6 hours, switching back and forth between casually practising whilst watching Netflix or RU-vid and following your courses more focused than I’ve ever been. I’ve been practising every day now for a week, and coupled with my initial bits of occasional practise from before, all thanks to your courses, I can play all the main chords well (except F and B; still struggling with F and haven’t learnt B yet), and I can play a decent number of songs fairly well. I’m still in the beginner phase, but I practise with the courses and songs on the app every day, and it’s the only thing in my life right now that keeps me going. I’ve tried to pick up hobbies before, from programming to drawing, but I gave up on them. Guitar is the _one_ thing that I am 100% adamant in pursuing and sticking with; and actually having fun with practising. Your courses are the best I’ve come across, and I just wanted to say that I appreciate what you do. 💜

Im in a similar position. Im 2 months in and i think only 3 days have gone by with me not practicing for hours. I couldnt tell you why since i still can't really play, but i cant put it down. Ill set her on the stand to break for the day and 30 minutes later ive got a show on and im lost in running scales on my guitar again. I dont think ive ever put this much time and effort into learning a skill like i have with guitar. I hope your doing well. Keep your head up, eyes forward, and your feet moving. We'll make it out eventually.

Well done, fighting back the right way F will come, once you have C down try a few variations from there with your little finger and in time F will introduce itself 🙂 B is tough 😂

Justin, thank you. I believe you just filled in an important void in my playing knowledge. I'm at the point in my experience where the lessons frequently refer to triads. Apart from them being three notes from a chord, I had no idea what to do with them. Thank you for explaining a foundational knowledge of how, what and when to use these first two shapes with the 9th accent. I'm excited about adding these ideas to my playing vocabulary. Cheers big ears!

Not knowing the notes on the neck by heart(more or less the E strings and A string down pat ,but others not so much) ….and also not really being able to put theory to the neck quickly I had been wondering if these were true triads (1,3,5) ,especially for that minor triad …I was assuming it was due to the way E shape bar chords(M&m) are formed with the 3rd being that 3rd string and all ….but always getting distracted I never confirmed it ….till now that is . I really wish I just found Justin guitar from the get go back when I was starting and was able to not jump around to all the online teachers like I did …I’d be so much further along .

Justin was using the E shape. Think of how an E minor is played; Only the 4th and 5th strings are fretted. Move that up the neck, and all you have to do is barre the top 3 strings with your index finger and you get a minor triad.

Are these Triads in the 1st Inversion?
@justinguitar
@justinguitar Месяц назад
The order of notes when playing triads on adjacent strings will be Root, 3, 5 or 3, 5, Root or 5, Root 3 depending on which of those is the lower note. (Be aware, for minor triads it is b3). In these two triad shapes the Root note is on the E string - the highest in pitch soo the triads are 3, 5, Root. When the 3 is the lowest note (in the bass) the triads are 1st inversion. That was a long way to say yes to your question! Cheers 😊 | Richard_close2u | JustinGuitar Official Guide & Approved Teacher www.justinguitar.com/advanced_search?q=easy%20triads
