The radio in my 1985 Dodge van was dead. This isn't a big deal! Pretty much any MoPar radio up to the late 1990s will bolt right into the dash and uses the same plugs. Literally plug and play!
I went with a later radio with cassette player to keep with the 1980s aesthetic. Watch this video to see how easy it is to fix your own dead radio or upgrade to FM/Cassette/CD!

Every dash should be that easy to access.

The ground should be used run it to where that mount went on your old stereo Austin that’s actually what the hole in the back of the head unit is for ground strap or wire. The radio will get better reception and you will get rid of the vehicle feedback coming from ignition etc. it has the wire because the newer stereos had plastic tabs to mount them speaking from experience hook the ground wire up my friend! Cheers

the older radios from mopar grounded through the antenna plug. Ran into this when changing to aftermarket in my sis 96 breeze. You can use the later cd units like you said. We stuck one in a 86 ram from a 90s jeep.

To put a newer “radio” you’re lucky the plugs match. It’s a pain to put it in otherwise!!!!

I almost slid out of my recliner, you used a real screwdriver 🪛 instead of your pocket knife!
