I can’t eat coriander either. Literally tastes like washing up liquid / laundry detergent for me :( Good on you if you like the taste and tolerate it well. My loss!
This looks so good! Chickpeas & lentils are the best thing to always have in the kitchen. And yep coriander is a no from me cause of its soapy taste for me! 🤷🏼♀️
Just googled and found one of your older recipes of Dahl and have it in my pot cooking away at breakfast! Does anyone else do this? 😂 also went to add curry powder but had run out....so checked out a recipe and made my own in a blender quickly......your recipes are the best ever!!!!!
You guys are incredible. Not even vegan just vegetarian but you inspire me so much in discovering more no meat dishes that are actually really tasty and also healthy for my batch cooking for weight loss and health in general 😊 Team coriander here
I find it so interesting how much people's tastes vary. For example, coriander tastes nothing like soap to me, I love it actually. But then I cannot stand mushrooms, they taste so horrible to me. Fascinating.
I religiously love your videos but the banter was off the charts in this video I was laughing my head off and taking many notes because I make daal every week thank you beautiful people 🌷✨💙
I basically made exactly this 2 weeks ago!! Just without fennel, spinach and coriander and had carrots in mine!! So crazy can just smell it!! Also used tamarind paste
It's not that I don't like coriander, it's more like coriander doesn't like me - even tiny amounts make me throw up. Parsley OTOH fully reciprocates my love. Thank you, guys!!!
We use coriander In pretty well everything we learnt from this channel that Included it and never had any trouble but... I got this cous cous and sweet potato dish when we were out one time, I could see it had a lot of coriander In it and it definitely got soapy towards the end. Thanks for another dish idea guys always appreciated, very high protein low calorie dense bodybuilder dish this one.
Love your explanation of sweet, salty, acid & umami. It reminds me to include them all when I make up a dish as I go along. I’ll be cooking this up for dinner tonight, thanks gents! And for the cilantro statistic. I thought my daughter in law was just being picky. That’s what mothers in law do ;)
Great, simple recipe... Coriander tastes like soap to me and my daughter. Annoying when most Indian takeaway food has it in. Thanks for sharing another great recipe :)
Love your work gents, vegan nuggets this weekend! General question if I may, if you were to recommend buying one of the following two items which would it be; a food processor or a food blender? I'm leaning towards processor...
Guys, love your recipes, following a plant based diet Monday - Friday and really feeling good. Maybe do a vid on a vegetarian Boboti sometime? It's a Cape Malay dish, traditionally South African, and one of the best things you will ever eat. Gimme a shout if you want the recipe.
I read ages back that people who eat cilantro and say it tastes like soap have a certain chemical in their bodies compared 2 people who like the taste. I think it was 8% of the population who have tried it? However that information could be wrong being read on the net. Lol I like it on everything.
yup i am one of the ones who HATES corriander. yup tastes like soap. and i know that taste from mom washing my mouth out when i said bad words or lied as a kid. :) blessings
Also coconut aminos ( I found some on Amazon for mt daughter who can't handle soy too much). Not used mine yet, but am planning to do so soon. Heard it tastes similar to soy sauce.
Brilliant that looks yummy 🤗wld u think about making an Ethiopian dish sometime pls my son is a huge fan.He wants to be a vegan chef and he has all ur cookbooks xxx
IvanIV05 Yes! I love coriander powder in guacamole, but I won’t touch it if it’s in the plant form - just tastes nasty. I didn’t know about the oil in the plant - explains why that is, I guess.
IvanIV05 : Totally agree. Love coriander seeds, either whole or ground to a powder and for me they are essential in a curry. But, just three or four coriander LEAVES will “contaminate” the entire dish. I went for years and years not knowing that others experienced the same sensation.
I personally love coriander. But my fest friend can not stand it. When she first told me that it tastes like soap to her, I thout she was crazy. But it's funny to hear other people thinking like that, too. So she is not crazy.... At least not more than I always thought she is 😂
Cilantro smells like stink bugs. Not sure if you have those in your neck of the woods but they’re nasty! I’m trying to get myself to like it and actually have some in the fridge right now for guacamole.
The soapy taste has to do with your gene expression "A genetic survey of nearly 30,000 people has identified two genetic variants linked to perception of coriander, the most common of which is in a gene involved in sensing smells1. Two unpublished studies also link several other variants in genes involved in taste and smell to the preference2, 3" Here is a link about it if you are curious about it: www.nature.com/news/soapy-taste-of-coriander-linked-to-genetic-variants-1.11398
I love coriander. Strangely, I absolutely cannot tolerate parsley; the pungent taste makes me feel ill. I've never met anyone else who can't tolerate parsley though?
I have used and loved fresh coriander all my life in all kinds of cooking/cuisines, use both stems and leavrs, line tgem. Was taufhg yo use eceruthkng bh my Mum. Strangely enough never liked parsley until I got some free in a veg box and decided it was nice and since then have been using it occassionally, too. Do prefer coriander , altho' some type sold in fruit and veg stores and supermarkets tastes strange to me too. The best type is available cheaply in most Asian grocers
If I had soap that smelled like. Coriander. I. Would. Have in on my dinner It is a really. Lovely. Tasting / Smelling Fresh. herb, my Favourite Herb. . Greetings. From. IRELAND. 🥰🥰☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️🥰🥰
kayden Many people have that sensation/taste when consuming coriander...scientific fact! That’s why I always serve coriander/cilantro on the side so everyone can enjoy the meal the way they like it. 😊
