Hello my friends!!
It's almost Christmas, so i decided to make one more video for you to watch!
I thought it was interesting to make a video about how to identify German WWII Produced combat Helmet models, we are talking about the M35, M40 and M42 here.
Also, because it's winter, i thought it was a good idea to show an easy way to winter camouflage your helmet, without using paint!
I hope you enjoy!

My grandpa was a member of the "Kampfgruppe Peiper"! He fought in the Ardennes on christmas 1944... He told me lots of very interesting storys... Merry christmas from Germany...

My older sister caught me putting a Mitchell Vietnam helmet cover on my M1 helmet. She asked why wear a helmet if it won’t stop a bullet. I just said cuz of shrapnel and fragmentation 😂. Keep up the good work on the videos I’ve been watching for over a year now!

For those who want to paint their helmets and can’t get the kind of spray paint HS uses acrylic works pretty well though you won’t get the kind of fade you see with Normandy Camo. It works especially well for a singular color such as with winter Camo.

Thanks for your video! Me and my daughter have a small WW2 collection, including some items from my father who fought in the Philippines. Currently we have a M1 US Helmet, and a Czech VZ-28 or VZ-29. We definitely want to add a German helmet to collection and your video really helps. I want to avoid all the fakes and repros. Again thanks for all your videos, we've been enjoying them. You should consider selling surplus items from your collection. I'm sure there's tons of fans that would love to own a part of this channel with an artifact that you've found. It's revenue that you could put right back into the channel with some amazing buys, etc. Keep up the great work! - A fan in Texas

I collect 1/6 dragon figures, I used this method yesterday to cam up several .Works great. I am also in the planning stage of making a 1/6 scale bunker. I am using yours as a guide.. Thanks for this video! I have a 1940 Luftwaffe double decal without a liner and what I am told is a more unusual 35 model that is a double decal with liner but missing the strap. It was a Czechoslovakian repaint and you can see the original German paint beneath and the imprint of the original decals but all is covered with the greenish paint the Chez used to cover it. I am not brave enough to take off the paint but just decided to keep it that way as it is part of the history of the helmet. Thanks again as I found this very interesting. I recently started collecting helmets and got mine from a reputable dealer. Take care and have a Happy New Year.

Actually as per army regulations it was forbidden to use permanent paint, what they used back then was slaked lime, it's the same chemical compound as chalk, but because it only turns into CaCO3 as it dries it is a lot more solid, it's the same stuff as they use to "paint" old timber frame houses (the white squares). Just so you know. Also in 1940 the soldiers were ordered to use what was available to camouflage their M35 helmets because then they already knew that the decals sticked out quite visibly. It was suggested that they'd use clay and whaever they could find, though they weren't allowed to make wire covers etc. Luis

@@History-Secrets your approach to WWII history is inspiring and useful, especially since I'm planning on writing a historical fiction novel based around the German occupation of the Nederlands and the Dutch underground resistance, which my family (Nijwenings from Nieuwlande, Drenthe) were involved with. Honoring, and accurately preserving these historical events is very important and exciting to me as it is for you. Nick, I really want to understand everyday life for the Dutch while they lived in occupation, what occupation of the Nederlands was like from the German perspective, how the German army operated, how the liberation happened in detail, and lots of other aspects of the war. It's a little difficult to do all the first-hand research I want to do from over here in Canada, since I'm so far from the places and people involved (and I don't speak Dutch). Because you have similar historic interests, live in the Nederlands, and speak Dutch do you know people who would be able to answer some of these question or have any other thoughts on how I could accomplish writing a very detailed and historically accurate book on these topics? Thank you! Looking forward to future videos!

I got a replica M42 Stahlhelm from Epic Militaria and I did this and it turned out pretty good! I also got a Vietnam War era M1 Helmet with a WWII liner for Christmas and an original WWII/Korean war M1 helmet that I restored and made an Easy Company helmet! Im still busy restoring it bc I need a chinstrap and a liner, but they are coming soon! The first time I saw this video was on Christmas Eve before I woke up! Merry Christmas! I just got a deactivated 1944 STEN MKV along with a British 1st airborne uniform with a para beret. I have quite a collection now, including a deactivated 1942 Lee Enfield no1 MKIII and a deactivated 1943 Webley MKIV revolver. I have collected other personal items too. Nick, I like your content, and attention to detail. As soon as I can get some one in my attic, I have 2 helmets l want you to verify for me. Now speaking of helmets, on Amazon, I was watching a B, or C, wasr movie. Iron Cross: The Road To Normandy, in it the air borne were wearing American helmets, that looked like the 1 you had. It had. Absolutely fascinating method of temporary winter camouflage. Can you tell us if this is the "authentic" way of doing this, the "at the Front" method ? I had always envisaged them using depot supplied commercial whitewash from a large paint tin..........but your method makes more sense , at a small unit level. Many thanks for posting.
