My grandads dad was a Beaufort flight sergeant in ww2 He crashed over Ireland and currently the sight is being dug. Thanks for keeping history alive I recently got into reenacting and looking for a group
Good job that he was German but still this video doesn’t make sense a Austrian Hungarian helmet turning into a German helmet those are two different countries.
to everyone who dislikes this guys video's for him showing the swastika and saying that the German decals are beautiful he doesn't mean it by him supporting the Nazi's, he means it historically. and all nick wants to share with us is his finds, creations and tutorials. don't forget he is unfolding history for us, he doesn't have to but he does so respect this guy have a blessed day nick!
@@oddbjrneriksen468 There's not really anything wrong with the restoration.. It's a helmet, not a classic car. I will use this helmet for reenacting, and like I explained in the video, I like it of the other paint is still underneath it, just like the Germans painted over the old layers of paint. Kind of you to leave a Dislike. 👎
@@oddbjrneriksen468 Your methods might be good, but I can assure you that the method I use works fine too. Rust will not come back, there wasn't even much of it, only some surface rust. There are a lot of layers of paint over it, the steel gets no oxygen, so it won't rust further. It's fine. I treat relics that I have to preserve differently of course.
My great great grandfather fought against the Russians in the Austro-Hungarian army. My great grandfather died in 1941 also fighting the Russians in the Wehrmacht
Amazing that a Austro-Hungarian soldier wore this! In my school we have a Polish teacher who’s great grandfather fought on their side against the Russians and I am pretty sure he survived the war, maybe it’s his helmet? Who knows history can hold many things, mysterious, facts and struggle. Thanks Nick for the videos great job as always!
@@aaatlas840 yea. My great grandfather fought for Hungary and the germans in ww2 and I always say he may have been on the wrong side but at least he was fightin the commies😁.
Just wait for the ww1 trench video!!! He gives easter eggs on his instagram-follow him! Could you maybe link the music in the video description i would love to have it on my playlist :)
Haha, hope I will get my WW1 uniform fast! I forgot the name of the song.. Normally I placed the name of the song in the description, but RU-vid has changed it, so I don't have to do it anymore.. That's why I forgot!
I‘m getting into Reenacting and collecting, I was the weirdo in my class that knew everything about ww2 but now that I want to buy memorabilia, I think I‘m the ultimative HISTORYBUFF 😂
You're not the only one People say that I'am weird or Nazi because I know a lot of WW1 and WW2 history and equipment I collect items for 4 years and I will collect until my dead . I can 't live without it .
Even before you restoured it think it was strangely beautifull a testiment to its strength, its over a 100 years old and who knows where it was before you got it, who knows what battles it was in or where it was at the end of the war, at some point its liner was lost, someone repainted it, it told this incredible story of how time will take its toll and now you brought it back to its glory days
Nick i absolutely love your Channel!! Im always happy to see that you uploaded a new Video!! :) You inspired Me to Go to some historical Locations in my Area. Greetings From Oberhausen in West Germany!! :)
Because I'm not reenacting WW1 Austro Hungarian. I can only use this helmet for German WW2 impressions. I will be restoring a German M16 helmet back to a German WW1 helmet though.
Dear history secrets. I just wanted to say I love you videos and here’s a story My great great grand father was in ww2 but sadly he died on D-Day His leg was blown off no one could save him. History secrets i hope you read this oh by the way he was Canadian. So that is it for now bye. Have a nice day.
hey nic i love your vids i hope the lockdown ends soon i am really looking forward to what you have found in the woods that u cant tell us about Love from Belgium
Most Austro-Hungarian helmets were painted in Greys, Deep blues, and browns, to help camouflage in the alps, as when the Austrian M17 was first issued to frontline troops in 1917 and fighting one the Eastern Front was slowing down as the Russians descended into civil war, The paint on the helmet at the start of the video was not a color used by the Austrian Army in the First World War, some helmets had engraved plating that you would attach to the front that marked officers, kind of like the symbols on British Mk.1 Helmets. The brown paint you put on the helmet is actually a close color to what they actually used.
I love watching your videos. I'm an old guy now, so I've had to stop reenacting due to health reasons, but I truly enjoy watching the younger guys who keep history alive. Please keep it up. One request: When you do these restoration films, please be sure to tell us where you buy your supplies. Especially those absolutely LOVELY decal sets. I have a really pristine M40 that I'm preparing to restore - again - and this time I'd like to use a more accurate paint. No problem there, but almost ALL of the reproduction decals that I find are simply not up to the standards seen in the ones that you've been using. Who is the source for these? Thanks again for a really interesting channel.
Goed gedaan man! Ik ben zelf ook eens van plan om wat helmen te restaureren binnenkort ;D. De decals zijn voor mij altijd het moeilijkst eerlijk gezecht, heb er zo al een paar gesneuveld lol.
Hi bro I really love the content you have so that's the reason I collect WW items because I enjoy you're videos very good keep it up man you can make other WW collectors happy.😊😊
I love the top of that stool you paint on being just an assortment of green/grey, and the blue from your last restoration. Even your stool has history.
Right now I'm sick with COVID-19 Just a week ago I was sick with the stomach virus. But your videos are a great cure for sickness! I love your videos Nick! 😃😃
