Don't bother watching the other dumbarses on youtube, this is the way to do it right. This obviously works on all pre fuel injected small block chevy engines (1955-1985 ish) This is the long winded, insider version of how to install a small block Chevy fuel pump with a lot of ranting and plugging for my channel. Hope you enjoy

I’m watching fuel pump videos because I’m replacing the one on my 68 Checker with a 307. It was my dad’s car and I don’t work on it it’s just been sitting in my garage for almost 15 years now. One thing I would like to have seen is if you could hold the pump and rod up together and show how they look inside the engine block. It would help me visualize what I’m trying to do much better. Enjoyed your video chat. 👍

You can also use one of the two main fuel pump mounting bolts to hold the rod in place. Just leave the second pump mount bolt in place while you move one over.

You didn’t actually finish the job and install the pump! Lol I didn’t come for the music I came to see how to install the fuel pump because I’m having trouble getting mine bolted on even using the bolt trick! Other than that the video was ok. I didn’t notice the country music until you pointed it out. I’m not a big fan of country music, but I do love small block chevy’s! 😊

get a fuel pressure regulator also you don't want more than 6 psi of fuel pressure I've had that happen to me on a 454 about 20 years ago.

I agree with Justin but also make sure your gas cap doesn't hold any more than 10 psi either. It will force fuel into your carb

But what i did was put grease on the shaft and it held it in place. After i was done and try to start the car it didn't start. Is their air on my gas line ?

You’re just the expert to answer this question. My 66 Chevelle 327 doesn’t want to start because it doesn’t get fuel when I pump the pedal. So, I add fuel to the carb to get it going and it runs great once it’s going. Any idea of how to fix this? I figure it’s the fuel pump but not sure why. Thanks Buddy! I’ve been to your town and really liked it. I was on my way to Saguatch to hunt.
@poortouringhotwiregarage5617
There's a possibility the fuel is leaking out of the carburetor, especially if it has a Rochester Quadrajet on it but more than likely not. The fuel is horrible quality now adays and usually evaporates out on hot days OR in the case of the Edebrock Performer (AFB) stye carbs, the fuel boils out into the engine which is very bad for the engine, ESPECIALLY the engine oil!! This is somewhat fixed by adding a phenolic heat spacer between the carburetor and the intake manifold. It woud also help to vent hot air out from under the hood with ducts or louvers. The last thing to check is to inspect your exhaust crossover on your intake manifold. If you have a factory cast iron manifold, I highly recommend blocking off the port as much as possible unless it only runs in cold weather conditions. Lastly, I highly recommend adding a good electric fuel pump and mount it as close to the fuel tank as possible. Make sure you replace and old fuel hoses on the suction side and also make sure the clamps are tight. One small air leak will cause alll kinds of issues with propper flow. Sorry about being so late with my response. Hope that helps.

Gave u a like up's Brother. I got a 1980 C10 350 SBC. With a 2701 intake and a 1406 carb. I'm installing a 1721 fuel pump. I remove the old fuel pump, I had trouble with push rod, I finally got it off, I noticed the rod is bent. Test it on a flat surface. So I purchased a new one. Fits perfect. My question is how do I know how far the rod goes in? The reason is, I'm having trouble installing the new pump. I put a long bolt to hold the rod in place. Please advise. Thanks

Rotate the engine crank pulley 360 degrees. That should put you on the low part of the cam lobe making the pump easier to install.

@@poortouringhotwiregarage5617 let me ask you this, my rear main seal is leaking in my truck 1986 Chevrolet k10 with a 305, does it have a 1 piece or 2 piece rear main seal?
@poortouringhotwiregarage5617
@poortouringhotwiregarage5617 4 года назад
@@509Glock22 Good question. '86 is a transition year. If you pull the inspection shield off from the transmission bellhousing, you should be able to tell. If it has an aluminum housing all of the way around the rear main seal it's a 1 piece. If not, it's a 2 piece. If you're not sure, drop the oil pan and check again. The rear main caps are totally different.

Good video. What about the bolt about 1.5" below that one? I am missing that bolt and I can shove a wire quite a ways in there. I notice you have a bolt in there. And then what about the corresponding 2 bolt holes on the other side of the engine - Looks like you don't have bolts in those two. Should all 4 be bolted? Thanks!
@poortouringhotwiregarage5617
On every SBC I've ever worked on, the other 3 bolt holes are blind, or in other words, don't go into any passages or inside the crankcase or waterjacket. That's been my experience
