I had an 05 cavalier I bought for 450 at 160k miles. Previous owner blew the rear cylinder and used the handbrake to stop the car everywhere they went. The adjusters were all mangled inside. It took 3 strong men with a crowbar each pulling and using wedges to break the adjuster pieces to pry the drum off. The shoes had worn over 2mm deep into the drum and were stuck inside them. We pulled and yanked for over 2 hours before we could break it off.
Get a friend that is a mechanic box of brakes off first obviously you never done that hit the drum on the outside Flack where the shoe fits inside it acts like a bell shops and metal in the drum popsite off did it millions of times in my inspection mechanic career of 45 years obviously you've never experienced our diagnostic mechanics yet but it'll come meanwhile tap it like you're doing and take all day to get something disassembled
I tried this recently with my car- took the brake drums off almost exactly how you did. Once I put them back on however (slid them back on and used a hammer to gently push them back into place, put the wheel + lugnuts on, torqued, etc.) they started to make a loud swishy noise when I would drive. Did I put them on wrong, how do I fix it?
Ive decided the next set of drums i do im converting to disks... I hate doing them because the person before always messed something up. The wheel cylinders were on the wrong sides of my gfs car... small shops cut corners to keep the bread and butter brake work coming back and dealers want your car for the cost of a repair. Torqued to spec antiseized in the right spots. Any rust ground to bear metal. I dont plan on doing those again for a while now.
Just a bit of propane torch around the center hub hole, not a lot just enough to slip over the rust on the axle flange. Before you all freak out, I didn't say plasma cutter...or Oxygen Lance..lol
Wtf lmao I just spent 3hrs yesterday wondering why i couldn't get this thing off my moms jeep.... never even thought of the stupid e break 😅. I wasted my whole day yesterday 😂😂😂. Would of wasted hrs today again unless I seen ur comment. Thank you!!!!
