Make one, that is what I did! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QlqmU4JpypI.html Or you could use a tree and a "come along". An engine hoist might also work!

You should have let me know you were doing this I could have saved you a lot of work. If you ever need to do something like this again, Ill take the boat out on the water for the entire day, and you can work on the trailer. No need to dry dock it.....:)

I thought about your idea and the only problem with doing it at the lake is there will be some bolt the will not break loose and as always there will be some tool that you forgot to bring. At lease that is my experience.

Great job... Glad to see you made a fixture in the rear that is solid enough to support the boat. Some of the things I've seen other people do online are nothing more than accidents waiting to happen. Makes me wonder how many people started to make a video and didn't post it because they dropped their boat in the driveway.

In the bow I just used a tree as the "crane" for the bow. I put a come-along on the tree to tweak the hook height and used hydraulic a floor jack to raise the boat up to the hook. I just used concrete blocks in the stern and "2x6" at the top. Once the bow hook is on, you can drive the trailer away. Then I lowered the bow back down with the floor jack onto blocks too.

This is brilliant! I was thinking "hmmm I don't have a crane... guess I'll have to rent one.." but then I saw your comment. Ours is under a pretty heft tree and I'm wondering if any of the branches are strong enough. Or possibly weld up a tall tripod to hang it from. hmmm

Nice work, i especially like how you keep a positive attitude responding to some of the negative comments. I do not have a boom crane however after watching this it gave me a rough idea of what to do and I thought of other things i could use in place of a boom crane. Luckily for me i know enough people who have docks i can just keep i there for the day.

Thanks! I need to raise up my boat as well to fix my trailer. This helps lots. Just an FYI, that's not the tongue. It's a coupler or hitch. Whichever you choose to go with. The tongue is the single, long beam that you put the coupler on.

If you have an extra hitch on a section of tongue you can bolt or weld a receiver to your trailer tongue so you can swap to the longer before going down the launching ramp so the tow vehicle does not go as deep.. You could also use some led rope lighting on the top outside of the trailer fender on the same side you steer the boat from. This lets u line up easier by looking over the side jnto the water . But also put a led rope light set peobably on or bext to the right bunk so you can line up for a straight shot as you are approaching the trailer. Link a runway center line lights but since you are offset in do the same.

I have a 7-foot extension tongue for my 17-foot boat which makes launching on shallow-sloped ramps much safer as I don’t need to back the tow vehicle further into the water thanks comfortable.

Ive owned 17 or 18 boats. In my life and Ive pulled most of them on trailers you will find switching over to a tandem axle will be a much more pleasurable towing experience as what ive found i generally like to use more trailer than what is specked as well as truck because usually manufactures over and under estimate their products to their advantage and marketing I also pull other trailers with my trucks and it makes it more enjoyable when you can be in more control of the entire rig Including handling and braking ironically i bought my last truck to pull a 10K 12foot beam boat around and mainly used it to haul a 7K lb Airstream campiing trailer which was a breeze to take anywhere and allowed me to enjoy the rides much more knowing i could stop almost normally with the camper attached to my Bumper FYI the truck is a Duallie Deisel powered American full size and its hauled a 19,000 lb 5th wheel up and over the Appalachian Mountains without any issues so when you tow something half the size it really makes it nice the boat i dont pull much anymore because of the permits and red tape you have to go through for oversized loads so i let the professionals do that now ! It’s expensive but IMO worth the convienence of not having to deal with the State Police

I'm just the opposite. I added 18 inches to the tongue of my boat trailer so I didn't have to back the tow vehicle tires into the water and also to clear the driveway at home. I also installed a new flipped axle and springs to give me more clearance. My boat is also a 16 foot cuddy with a 7 foot beam. I have full carpeted five foot side bunks which really make retrieving the boat really easy.
@bernie9728
@bernie9728 3 года назад
Just a note. Moving the axle forward take weight off the tongue. Also, shortening up the trailer makes it harder to back up. You will also most likely be kicking yourself if you ever decide to get a bigger boat. Just some things worth thinking about.

"The easy way to get a boat off its trailer... I used a boom truck." Well, an easier way is to just hook my personal Chinook helicopter to the boat and air lift it off. Dude, if everyone had a boom truck, no one would be here trying to work out how to get their boat off their trailer in their backyard.

@1Ocqueoc

A few years ago, due to a few long and shallow ramps that I use, I extended the tongue on one of my trailers by 34 inches (that was the longest piece of tube that my buddy had in his scrap pile) and hinged the extension to give me some walking room around the front of the thing when it was in the garage. Of course, the little "job" turned into a *project* as I ended up totally re-wiring the thing and like you - repositioning the axle for better balance. I also replaced the lights with LEDs and moving the lights well above the waterline. Next job/Project - re-wire the boat :(

your trailer is actually too short, the bunks should always extend past the back of the transom to keep a "hooker" from forming in the back part of the hull during storage.
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 6 лет назад
I always felt the old trailer was too small. The boat hung over its bunks a good 6 inches. With the new trailer, there is about 3 inches of bunk showing when the boat hits the front stopping roller.

Never ever lift a boat up by the eye like that! Holy crap! Someone with an older boat maybe even a newer boat is going to try this and rip that thing out. Its not met to put so much strain on it like that vertically. Just my two cents and hopefully someone will think twice by reading this.
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 5 лет назад
Seems kind of obvious but yes, anybody doing this should think twice about it! That being said your probably putting more strain on that eye winching it onto your trailer than the amount of weight to lift the front of the boat up, its fairly light in the front, light enough I didn't even put the out riggers down. Also the way the strap was attached through the eye, it was pretty much just keeping the straps from slipping. But your two cents are well excepted!

@1D10CRACY 10 месяцев назад
Yup, when you DIY you have to man up and think outside the box. You don't need a boom truck, you just need a way to lift the bow of the boat. You could make your own support using 4x4's to lift the bow. Or maybe find a friend with a large engine hoist. Worst case scenario, you make your own crane like I did on the truck in the video. DIY is easy, you just have to get past the mindset that you "can't".

PSA.....do not lift a boat by the front eye. You run a high risk of ripping it off and destroying the boat. That eye is only for winch the boat while partially in the water. This guy is a dip.
@1D10CRACY
@1D10CRACY 4 года назад
PSA update, this guy may not be a dip like me, but there are two factors he got wrong with his assumption. First, I can lift the front of the boat by hand, it's not very heavy. There is more stress on that eye winching it onto the trailer. Secondly, the weight of the front of the boat is actually laying in the strap, albeit some stress is on the eye, it was pretty much just keeping the lifting strap from slipping off. I will say this guy is smart to question the physics, as should anyone lifting their boat or anything else that may be large and heavy
