My motto now is to use what I have rather than keep buying. I have lots of craft felt left over from previous projects and I'm trying to use up my supplies. At this point, craft felt is fine for me and doesn't require additional investment. Thank you for sharing your design process, it is truly inspiring.

Thank you for your kind words I agree use what you have. I’m still using a lot of felt as bases for things to great way to do a lot of vertical stitches and then stitch it to a larger piece.

I just love the way you combine the colors and the mediums. When I see the piles of fabrics and yarns and threads it puts such a smile on my face and happiness in my heart. One question I had wanted to ask was how do you store your items by color or by weight. Yarns together? Threads together? Give us a few hints. And we appreciate the work that you do

One of the best things about slow stitching is you never know how it will turn out. Love your ideas.❤️

Project stashing is so soothing. I like going ‘shopping’ from my stash too. Sometimes they’re just ideas wrapped in a t-shirt, but dumping one out and combing through helps when I am anxious….thanks for sharing..Kath🌾

That is the way of it. Some pieces need to grow awhile….petting them is reason enough to have them anyway….Some have all the glamour but no ready road……some are single bits slowly accreting their companions (tho’ some things just grab my attention right away, shouting what they need to be.)…and yes…those lovely packets of potential waiting…..🌾…. I like how you suggest coordinating and laying out the background first (limiting choices) to help prevent being overwhelmed by too many choices. Exciting to watch you test layouts. TFS your technique!

That purple project looks pretty, so many beautiful shades. I bought felt about a month ago and I want to do exactly what you’re describing in this video. I want to tack down the fabric, paint, then stitch. Thanks.

Love that first piece of wool! I see a beautiful stitched pencil cup in the future! Wrap your stitchery around a can or something similar and glue it in place and then let me know when it's ready for me to purchase. 😉 (Okay, maybe I need to make my own... In fact, there's an empty olive can in the recycling bin right now... 😁)

I love the colors and thresd you have chosen - not sure how you would paint on fabric, but I'll watch more videos to see what you mean. This is a great example of your process and is a big help to me. I love your fabrics - I just have cottons right now, need to get more variety.

Such a helpful video, thank you! I want to make a cover for a journal; it will be my first slow stitched project. So would I embellish my base fabric, then back it with other fabric or felt? I wouldn’t embroider through cotton and felt correct? Thank you so much

Beginner here! I love the idea of starting on felt! However i have a sensory aversion to acrylic felt. Any reason wool felt would not be a good idea? Is the density of the fibers an issue at all?
@SusanTaylorBrown

Wool felt is a joy to stitch on! I also stitch on regular wool. Or wool clothing I buy and felt it a bit in the washing machine.

@@SusanTaylorBrown Oh my gosh, you have just given me a great idea. I have a wool sweater that has been washed numerous times and is now 3 sizes too small. I am brand new to slow stitching and would never have thought to use it as wool felt. Because that's all it basically is now 😁. Thanks!!

I want to use it in clothing upcycle maybe jeans any suggestions
@SusanTaylorBrown
@SusanTaylorBrown 11 месяцев назад
Do you mean you want to put some various slow stitch Textile bits on some jeans for recycling? Dylan thing I would worry about is if you color any fabric with some thing like a water-based paint you might lose color when you wash it, so any kind of the distress, paints or regular water colors are going to wash out when you wash the clothes. Otherwise pretty much anything goes. I’m sorry if I didn’t quite understand your question.

Is there a cotton material that could be used as a base instead of felt?
@SusanTaylorBrown
@SusanTaylorBrown 6 месяцев назад
You can use any fabric you can get your needle through.😀 I used to use a lot of felt. Now I often use old sheets or cotton. Whatever is on hand.

So puzzled by a vessel, all the liquid will need a waterproof lining?
@SusanTaylorBrown
@SusanTaylorBrown Год назад
While I know that the proper definition of a vessel would be for holding liquids in the art community it is often used to describe a container of any kind. Think of it a vertical fabric bowl or vase if you like. It will not hold liquid and I apologize for misleading you.
@lindak7499

@janekrut2799

I didn't know what a vessel in this case would be - I was going to ask. I am not in the arts community....glad to know - I could use a pencil holder etc. or make a shallow bowl!

Except felt is such a poor quality product to invest all that time on, it will deteriorate a lot quicker than a non-acrylic unevenly produced product. Just go to a thrift shop and find some 100% wool garments, or 100% linen, or cotton and deconstruction that. It will be a better quality.
@SusanTaylorBrown
@SusanTaylorBrown Месяц назад
Thank you. This is an old video when I was just starting to experiment. Also many folks just wanting to give things a try to see if they like it might already have some felt of any kind on hand. As it is now I stitch on linen or wool or wool felt. But that didn't come for a couple of years.
@MiLittleCorner
@MiLittleCorner 6 дней назад
Of course you are correct. Quality is important. My family has told me that all they want is the photos so I've been scanning and emailing them. They don't even have to store them. I'm about to be 81 years old and I don't care if my projects don't last 10-20-30 years. They will all end up in a yard sale, donated, land fill or burn pile. I'm crafting for myself and I don't care of anyone likes my project(s) or not. I enjoy the process. Your idea of thrifting for wool is a good idea and I'm sure you make quality items. In my case, I don't want the additional labor of searching for and then preparing the item for use. Retail prices for quality wool are out of my range so my stash of craft felt it is.
@marywiggins7411
@marywiggins7411 6 дней назад
@MiLittleCorner craft away and enjoy it! I am sure my kids will toss 75% of my stuff. Darn shame. In 25 years there will be no antique furniture or embroidered linens at any flea market, as everything made now is complete junk. Fast fashion decorating... with no character at all.
