You shouldn't have to ADD ear candy. Your production should already be ear candy in itself.

I know this is "make POP music," but it would be cool to see a video about ear candy that fits in a (modern) ROCK mix. Do you have some extra tricks about ear candy guitar (riff) processing? Great video, great channel. Keep it up man!
@Will_Bruce
@Will_Bruce 3 года назад
A lot of these tips can apply, but for rock and metal it's more about the real instruments and getting creative with unique guitar techniques. The main options would be little instrument fills and licks (melodic ear candy). Things like a wide vibrato pinch harmonic could also be used at times as ear candy. A riser could be techniques like a long slide, a big slow bend, or a long pick scrape. You could also use automation for a volume and/or "effects mix level" swell or use it to create a stutter effect. The drums can let loose with sick drum fills for transitions. You could also make use of the crash and other variety of drum cymbals at the start of a new section. The drums kinda intuitively handle a lot of the transitional stuff. Like how a drummer will do swells of dynamics especially on the cymbals similar to a riser.

I love how you focus on the creation of music instead of mixing like everybody else. Would love a video on how the intro theme on “body like a back Road” was created and layered. I make tracks daily and one of the challenges is to have something unique or wow factor in each one.

something that is really easy if you produce any kind of dancemusic is just to mess around with the kick drums to make it less repetitive. like removing one or two kicks at the end of a bar or maybe just moving the last kick in the bar so it doesnt hit straigt on the beat.

I usually just sift through sound design channels on splice which are not really meant for music (mostly video game / movie stuff). Those sounds tend to work better for me than some prefab transition sounds from a sound designer focused on music (which is harder to make your own).
