Easy Ways to Avoid Sticky Rice
Wash the rice and let it soak in enough water for atleast 15-20 minutes and drain, this helps to remove the extra starch. Adding a teaspoon of oil or a few drops of lemon juice to the water while cooking rice will prevent the rice from being sticky and ensure separate grains that can be used especially for fried rice, biryani etc.

I had an Indian roommate a long time ago and he used to cook rice just the way you were doing. At the time, I thought it was strange but now I can see that it makes perfect sense and there is no way your rice could be sticky. I wanted a non-sticky rice to make Biryani eggs and have the whole family enjoy it since I am very much into cooking. Thank you.

daisilui Americans don't cook rice that way. We use a certain amount of water and cover it with a tight fitting lid and cook for a certain amount of time and the rice is done without needing to be drained. Usually for regular long grain (not as long as this video's though) we use 2 cups of water to 1 cup of rice and cook for 20 minutes. It makes sticky rice though and it is very annoying when you need to use it for something else like fried rice.

Tarla how much water do you add for each cup of rice
@hniksic
@hniksic 4 года назад
@@rimjhimkaraki8070 Just make sure there's plenty of water so the rice doesn't get dry during cooking - for example, I used 4 cups of water on 1 cup of rice today. The precise ratio doesn't matter because you're draining all the water anyway.

Ok, I made rice today for my Red Beans and Rice recipe. I followed your directions exactly. I just used the cheapest "Great Value" brand white rice I could find. The rice came out perfectly. We usually wash it three times until the water is completely clear, then soak it 5-10 minutes, then add as much water as to cover it plus 1 finger width, do not add salt, put into the cooker, and use the slow steaming program if you have such a setting on your rice cooker.
