Fun fact: it is actually not illegal to catch a lionfish without a special permit in Florida, as Florida is overpopulated with lionfish and that Florida actually encourages you to catch and eat lionfish.
Hi, Bermudian here 🇧🇲 We’ve been having a major Lionfish problem since some Floridian pet owner thought it was a good idea to put her lionfish in the Atlantic back in the 80s. For a while, we’ve been trying to find ways to stop the growth of the population from eating local wildlife and coral reefs. Usually, scientists, fishermen, and anglers will set up things like sticky traps and crates to catch and kill them with various means, but in recent years, the island government and some scientists and culinary enthusiasts have been recommending citizens and tourists to consume lionfish. I’ve had it before at a restaurant in Hamilton, and this guy is totally right about it tasting good. I’d probably go as far as to put it just above haddock in terms of texture, taste, and consistency. Idk if anybody has tried this before, but somebody should make lionfish sushi or sashimi; maybe a kind of fish and chips recipe too if possible.
Eating longish and promoting the eating of longish is actually a great way to help the Atlantic fish species as this fish is invasive in the Atlantic Ocean and eating them can help reduce their populations. I did a college marine biology project on this it’s pretty cool 😊
I was sailing in the keys with the boy scouts and our charter captain wanted our help writing a "Lion Fish Diss Track" for him to play at the local bars to raise awareness about this invasive pest 😂 shoutout Captain Steve, Quixotic Adventures!!
It actually is the worst enemy to the coral reefs since idiots let their pets go and they have multiplied and have no predators! They have spread all the way to Bermuda and up to Maine destroying the coral reefs and governments are encouraging ppl to eat these!!! They're not native and so it's the best thing we can do for our ecosystem is to eat these!!
@@Xeno_Curse Man all I did was something harmless and you've turned into something it doesn't need to be. Have a good rest of your day. I will no longer reply cuz this is waiting my time.
@@jessica3218 Yeah I feel awful for the fish like it's literally horrifying, like imagine if you were the dead fish on the plate with your sides cut out and placed beside you like it's such a gruesome sight
He got parasite from cooking fish with parasites, he halved it and Cooked one half and put the cooked halve NE see t to the uncooked, and it got diseased and infected
@@tclfan0180 exactly what you just said. Poison is lethal by ingesting whereas venom is only lethal by injecting. Tissue tropism. My point is literally what you commented lmao
they are cuz venom affects outside skin and poison affects the stomach, but even so its not safe to consume venom because you might have an open wound or something in your mouth which would be the same as being stung
I've been stung by these it sucks that the guy fishing next to me brought it on the boat and didn't warn anyone, and while it was flopping around, it got me😂.
