mine i feel like they do cause my chinese isn't at all good i could really only speak the basics and mostly only can understand some of what they are saying
Same with Indians and “Indian food” in America. Some restaurants are legit but a lot of them lay off the spices. I think it’s because a lot of white folks cant handle it
Sammy Sosa yeah but that doesn't mean it's not authentic it just means it's not that spicy. Maybe because I live NYC but most Indian food is pretty authentic. Indian people are too prideful to change their dishes to appeal to Americans. You either take it or leave it.
fellow singaporean! hahahas. i wonder what will Jlin think about Singapore's chinese foood! hahahas. but dangz im so grateful to be able to watch this vid and understand every single thing they're talking about! #EnglishChineseLangSystem vid of Japanese sushi or japanese food with Jlin in charlotte please! 😊
Happy New Year! I think you guys hang out with Jeremy Lin quite often now lol congrats anyway cause for me he's such a really cool guy (only based on his personality and physical appearance since i don't really watch basketball that much)!
Im a 3rd generation Australian - chinese, irish, german. My dad cooks traditional Canton soups, like Say young Choy Tong, watercress, jook. But other nights he would cook a stir fry with rice as the base... Years ago he would cook individual dishes but times change..
Wow can't believe it's been almost 5 yrs. I just watched his CBA game this morning. Anyways, we recently made a reaction video to American Chinese food from a Real Chinese perspective, it really just reminded me of seeing this video almost 5 years ago! I always enjoy your videos Fung Bros best of luck to you guys!
Fungbros, next time you guys go to Asia, you should do a video about the popular American places over there ...Pizza Hut, McDonald's, etc! lol and be like this isn't real American food but it still tastes good! China is known for the biggest knock-offs and counterfeit items too so I don't see why the hate over the American Chinese food either. It might not be authentic but most of these foods are also fast food.
Thanks for doing a video in Charlotte. I watch your videos all the time in cities that I will never go to and just get hungry. At least this is a restaurant I can get to!
Im eating Panda Express when watching this with orange chicken and broccoli beef on half&half. I'm Asian myself and I agree 120% on what you guys are sayin.
As a native Chinese, here's what I think of "American Chinese Food". Conclusion: it is authentic Chinese food. Reasoning: when we look at different styles of Chinese food, they are usually a collection of cuisine that helps Chinese people 1)adapt to the environment using local ingredients. eg, Sichuan and Hunan are humid places, so we add a lot of chili in Sichuan and Hunan cuisine; while northwest is where most wheat at, so carbs are the main topic of northern China cuisine; 2)blend in local culture so we can survive and thrive. Little may know that kungpao chicken was original invented by a northerner Chinese imperial officer who was assigned to Sichuan province. Our ancestors came to the states 150 years ago, building railroads across the nation and facing racist immigrant regulation. "American Chinese Food" is how they best utilized local ingredients (eg, orange chicken: large-chunk of chicken white meat, deep-fried, adjusted to local taste with sweet and sour sauce) to survive, to raise their children and to build Chinese legacy on another side of earth. I'd say I have mad respect for tasty "American Chinese Food". It should be in the same bracket with other styles of authentic Chinese food for each one of them demonstrates the spirit of our culture in different ways.
Oh man, I miss eating this thrash so much while at uni. Ate the orange chicken from panda express in Dubai recently and it did bring back lots of bittersweet memories 😢
Orange Chicken in Chinese is 陳皮雞 (Cantonese: chun pei gai Mandarin: Chénpí jī). Not that uncommon, since 陳皮 (orange/citrus peel) is used in a various dishes and soups!
One of my greatest disappointments in a Chinese restaurant is when the General Tso's Chicken is just Sesame Chicken without the sesame seeds instead of its own zesty, slightly spicier flavor.
the Fung Brothers bring a lot of energy with humor and its nice to know that these are two guys who know what their talking about. .its too bad you guys didn't make a trip in Charlotte,NC to the Dim Sum Restaurant, it recently closed down but back in 2015 it was going strong and reopened under a new owner in 2017.I am not Chinese but American Born Japanese, I have been to several Dim Sum restaurants when i lived in Chicago. In Charlotte the Dim Sum Restaurant was very comparable, and yes, the ladies who served brought steaming hot carts to the tables and all Chinese...not born in the US .i know Jeremy Lin in 2017 is no longer here but if you ever come back to Charlotte,NC ,the place might be nice to try , it has reached the previous owners level of good dim sum. My belief is when you see entire family's including the Grand Parents sitting at a Dim Sum restaurant , then it must be pretty good. and Yes on weekends Always packed. the link on Yelp.( www.yelp.com/biz/dim-sum-chinese-restaurant-charlotte )....by the way guys I learned a lot about dim sum from your videos, great job.
I grew up on Americanized Chinese food. I don’t know if it’s a cultural thing, but many Hispanics I know in the USA love Asian food in general. I knew it wasn’t authentic and always wanted to try the real thing until I finally got to 27 years later with my friends from China. When I tasted it, I could never go back to the American stuff.
I'm not chinese so my first experience with chinese food was the fake take out version which I thought was real then when I got older I went to an authentic chinese resturant and the flavors were too bold for me so tbh I prefer this kind of Chinese food :P
I had the opposite experience. Usually authentic Chinese food is milder unless you go for the stuff that is purposely spicy or salty. I think where it seems bolder is a lot of times you can taste each individual ingredient which is quite a shock. Asian-American food on the other hand is a lot saltier in general and the flavors are more in your face to fit the american palette. I should actually say flavor without the "s" as it's mainly salt and soy sauce though. They aren't very good at highlighting other Asian ingredients.
Great show, as always! Actor/director Jimmy Tsai expressed the same sentiment about American Chinese Food in his film Ping Pong Playa (Cherry Sky Films, 2007).
What an honor and a privilege it must have been for that young man, Mr. Lin, to have been able to not just dine with, but to also be a part of a video with the Fung Bros. Lucky bastard.
