Porridge would be a more traditional breakfast, most people would only go for the full fry-up at the weekend (or you'd be the size of a house!) Porridge with a sprinkling of sugar and either milk or cream on top is a super start to the day.
@DelightfulTravellers

nigel Mc Hugh haha we hear you. We do the same thing on the weekends in Canada. Eat ‘large’ on the weekends. That said we just had to try the full fry up! Thanks for watching! 😀 - Trevor

The thing to do when on vacation is to pig out at breakfast then skip lunch. A full Irish breakfast is always a flat fee so why not ?

A few things, in the Irish breakfast that potato cheesey thing is not traditional at all. Boxty is a potato dish, I have no idea what that pancake thing is, it ain't Irish whatever it is. It would generally be a potato cake, just mashed potato, grated cooked potato with spring onions shaped together and fried in a pan. We usually make it for breakfast with left over potato. Its thicker than a pancake and there isn't a sauce with it. There is no sausage or bacon in a traditional Irish stew just either lamb or beef and it's never served with mashed potato just normally brown bread. Dublin, what in the hell are you at telling tourists this is traditional Irish food, this is all a mish mash of fusion food. Hope you guys had a lovely time in Ireland, come to Limerick next time! Well feed you up!
@DelightfulTravellers
@DelightfulTravellers 5 лет назад
That's how the restaurant served the breakfast. They called it Traditional so we're just going off of what they say. If you Google Boxty you'll see it on every list. But you're not the first to be confused by it so I'm not sure what's up there. We had a great time in Dublin. At some point, we plan to come back and visit the country side. It looks a lot like our part of Canada and they people are so so nice - Trevor

@@DelightfulTravellers oh yeah, I totally understand, I'm from Ireland (born and bred) and all I can tell you is that boxty is not that dish you were served and potatoes with cheese is not in an Irish breakfast. But do please come back to Ireland and travel away from Dublin! I'd love to see more videos about your experiences! Come to Limerick in the South West in the first week of May and experience our Riverfest festival! You will be dizzy from the food experiences! Theres also Bunratty Castle in Clare where you can feast on a medieval banquet! Theres do much to try and so much to see! Limerick is the home of Shaws Ham and we brew our own beer! Honey Mead is made in Co. Limerick. Theres at least four award winning cheeses here, we have award winning fudge and ice cream too. Our Markets on the weekend are jam packed with dishes to try! I look forward to seeing you here in the future x

@DelightfulTravellers yes I agree with the poster above, that looked good but it wasn't traditional Boxty, looks like they made up their own version of it😂

The stuff he dunks in the egg is regular toast. Soda bread is never toasted and usually comes dark brown because most of the bakers use whole wheat flour. White flour could be used but for some reason hardly ever is. Soda bread is absolutely perfect for dunking in soup or Irish stew like she does near the end. The crepe he eats isn't boxty at all despite the name but that's Dublin for you. Proper boxty is made from potato and flour, looks like a pancake and is around 1/2" thick. You can get it at any breakfast place in the northern half of the country. They don't eat boxty all over Ireland so in the south look out for " fadge " which is pretty similar. Fadge and farls are the same thing, made from potatoes and usually around 1/4" thick. Dublin coddle and Irish stew are really pretty similar. Coddle is made from pork sausage and bacon while stew is made from lamb.

Great video👍🏻...we don't eat fried food every day in Ireland ,if we were out boozing it up on a Friday or sat night THEN we would have this craving for a cooked breakfast....we normally eat porridge (oats) or cereal and coffee or tea!.....Irish stew is great too....did you try colcannon???((mashed potatoes and kale with chopped onion salt white pepper,butter and milk).....I challenge you yo try it!!.....

Why not try Belfast in Northern Ireland where the Soda Bread and Potato Bread originates. It is much better. White pudding is lovely being sausage meat with oats and spices. Worth a try and only 100 miles from Dublin. Great video.

The English and Irish don't eat crispy bacon because their bacon is cut thick and crispiness just doesn't work. On the positive side their bacon doesn't contain all the yucky chemical that you get in American bacon. You will notice the taste difference straight away.

Boxty is a very regional thing in my part of the country the northwest not really in dublin its popular you can buy it in the supermarket,but not anywhere else.The way its served there is not typical either nothing wrong it indeed its very imaginative.Dublin coddle is typical of dublin wouldn't be that popular outside ,stew is eaten everywhere and probably so is the mash potato with scallions.The breakfast was typical but to be honest its not unique to ireland except for the white pudding an irish breakfast is the same as an english breakfast scottish breakfast and a welsh breakfast .We don't really have an unique cuisine as such apart from a few dishes

Boxty is most definitely a traditional Irish dish. It is most common in the NW of the country and the south of Ulster. When I was growing up we had it quite frequently - my mum made it with only grated raw potatoe (no cooked mashed potatoe) and it was the consistency of pancake batter so made lovely large pancake style ones. I loved to roll rashers (bacon) in them 😍 It’s not really a Dublin thing I suppose..... Check out this recipie 👍🏻 www.google.ie/amp/s/www.irishcentral.com/culture/food-drink/how-to-make-traditional-irish-potato-cakes-or-boxty.amp
