An attempt at a blog which didn't go to plan but ended up being very relevant in terms of discussing recovery.

Eating out again is one of the real joys of recovery. I’m still going through the process, and making myself eat put alone quite a bit. We are still fighting the whole calories on menus thing up here in Scotland, but a lot of chains have done it anyway since they’ve had to in England.

Hi Emily, thank you for this video. Really helpful. I am going out for a meal for my dad's 70th this weekend and I'm quite shocked and ashamed and alarmed by how in a state of panic about it I feel. I'm so frustrated at how much of my mind it is taking up and how anxious I am about something that should be so joyful and about the occasion/my dad. I am desperate not to panic on the day & potentially show any sign I'm scared/struggling because I don't want to ruin the day, worry my family or be a bad role model to my nieces and nephew. This anxiety about my potential response is adding to the existing anxiety about the food itself. So. My question. : how do I do this meal A. Without freaking out in the moment. B. The prospect of eating out &anxiety leading up to it compelling me to keep thinking and thinking and THINKING about it! 🤯😫😣😵‍💫? C. Resist the incredibly strong compulsions to reduce my intake leading up to the meal out? (I thought I'd got past event restriction but it seems to be cropping up again which is so disappointing. Maybe the length of time (pre covid) since I last ate out? I REALLY want to be able to eat out and join in and for the food to be a part of the meal/a lovely element but no big deal outside of the actual occasion. Sorry this is so long. Thank you. I'm trying to tell myself every time the meal comes into my mind "nope-not relevant to today". To contain it. Me. Here. Now. Deal with it then. But any tips on hiding it if I do have a panic on the day so I don't ruin everything, please? Thsnk you Emily. Really loads of helpful stuff in here. I'll watch it everyday until Saturday! Xxxxxxxx
