When I first started the McDougall diet I would get very concerned after eating potatoes, brown rice and oats as my blood sugar would go way up after eating them. And would it still be high a few hours later. I soon learned that you have to be patient and as Dr. McDougall said, give your body a chance to heal. Once I eliminated all the fat and processed foods from my diet and lost a few pounds I noticed my glucose levels coming down at a steady rate. Again, give your body a couple of weeks to start healing and watch those glucose levels come down!

Dr Mc Dougall I’ve definitely learned a lot from you. This video has helped me understand more about my situation. I was diagnosed as having diabetes because of a 6.5 A1C in late 2019. The doctor wanted me on meds but I refused at first because I had wanted to try with diet. I was not vegan at that time but considered myself more flexitarian. I’ve been vegan since 1/2021. Yes I’ve lost weight but not coming off quickly. I eat mostly WFPB now and stick to about 1700 -1900 calories a day. I’ve definitely seen a difference with my numbers though my issue is when I wake up my number is over 100. By dinner time I’m down to 99. I’m very frustrated with myself because I’m not seeing results. I drink a 67 ounce of water a day. I’m not giving up yet

I went on a whole foods plant based diet for about four months. I was trying to lose weight. I didn't lose any weight, but what happened is a condition I had with my feet cleared up. I never had it diagnosed, but I called it plantar fasciitis, although a related syndrome better matched it. Swollen ankle, very painful heel from under my heel, up the back into the lower part of my calf. I limped for four years. No shoe, no matter how specially designed they were, gave me relief. But two months into this diet, and the symptoms cleared up. My only "cheat" on it was a tsp. (or less) of sour cream on my vegetables, and a tsp. of honey in my coffee in the morning with a little milk. Otherwise, I stayed true to no salt, no sugar, no animal products, no processed foods, etc. I didn't stay on it as I felt I was lacking something in my diet and began losing energy. But the syndrome has not returned. I stay to a whole foods, organic as much as I can, but am not perfect as organic is so expensive. As a healing modality, I highly recommend this program.

The latest research shows that Fructose (especially high fructose corn syrup) causes the body to store FAT. This is highly accentuated by adding FAT to the mix. Fructose actually causes the metabolism to slow a bit as well. I think this explains the main issue with the SAD diet today as it is loaded with high fructose corn syrup and FAT. Thus another reason to avoid too much fat and high fructose corn syrup all together.
@TimpBizkit
@TimpBizkit 8 месяцев назад
I'm not sure about the fructose so much as it's low GI and fat free (and also if you're using it as a sweetener you can use a bit less of it than glucose or even sucrose for the same sweetness), thus doesn't have much of an insulin response as the sugar is slowly turned to glucose (to turn it to fat is slower and more complicated as the molecules are completely different), but certainly anything with both high fat and a form of sugar e.g. glucose, fructose, lactose, galactose, sucrose, maltose or a starch is going to trigger more of an insulin response and will need more due to the fat content blocking the insulin receptor sites. I mean technically any form of intake energy will slow down fat loss in the short term, simply by being an alternative form of energy. Intaking fat is counter productive because it doesn't make you very full, relative to how many calories you are ingesting. The glycogen storage being filled stops you being hungry. The fat storage, well almost every overweight person still gets the urge to eat despite having enough energy storage for several weeks of fasting. This proves that the body is missing other stuff when a fat person fasts e.g. glucose, protein, salt, vitamins and minerals, but not fat itself as it has plenty. Most parts of the body can run on ketones, and protein and glucose can be taken from muscles but who wants to lose "weight" by getting smaller and weaker muscles?

I listen to his answer to this question and I don't hear that he is making any points ('don't worry about it') ('we have great cure rates for diabetes') where is the information? I am not hearing it. I really want his information to be informative (I am most easily adherent to vegan diet) , but I do not hear him telling information - just some 'pat' answers.............I see so many comments (all) that say how great Dr. McDougall is but why is he great? I have been into health food for 45+ years - this is a topic I love and immerse myself in, but must have clinical type information rather than 'pat' answers. He then in this video goes into speaking (clinically) about his treatment of diabetes with insulin (this is not answer to the question) Also, what about insulin resistance that builds?? That is extremely pertinent here....??

Seems to be largely individual. If a dietary change happens to limit ones consumption of oxalates, and the body is able to rid itsself of excess oxalic acid and subsequent relief from hyperoxaluria. I've also read that when people switch to unfortified foods (no added iron or synthetic vitamins) that can be a significant enough change for some symptoms to go away. Excess metallic iron feeds pathogens and burdens the endocrine system, which is also disrupted by glyphosate which is used liberally in vegetable and grain production here.

Thanks Dr McDougall. People are fooled by keto because you do lose weight, and that of course helps diabetes, but you haven't addressed the problem of insulin resistance. Most people feel better when they lose some weight so this is why keto is a fad diet. Historically no human beings have subsisted on a high fat diet it is not practical. The problem is your insulin resistance either stays same or worsens, so much so that if you go back to eating carbs you will have severe sugar cravings, which makes the problem worse e.g. Jimmy Moore.

@nubiamorton1095
@nubiamorton1095 2 года назад
@@derryshore5586 all those foods have been domesticated by humans for thousands of years, you're just making up stuff. White rice is just brown rice without the skin, that's like peeling an orange, or removing the fur from an animal. I eat brown but white is not bad, and it's been around a long time. You act like brown rice doesn't exists anymore, it's in every grocery store for super cheap as it is almost unprecedently abundant and sustainable, and you can't make white rice without it. Type 2 diabetes is caused by insulin resistance. Your blood sugar is suppose to go up when you eat, you eat food for energy and the body uses glucose for energy. It's only a problem when your body can't absorb the insulin and blood glucose. Medical doctors recommend low carb diets because they don't understand this, not the sharpest knives in the drawer, and they have personal biases and other agendas. That's why they're so unsuccessful and most of them still think diabetes is incurable. You need to do real research.

My approach to food is grains, vegetables and fruits with very rare instances of starches, but I do take Berberine when I eat bread (Ezekiel) or pasta or potatoes - to avoid insulin resistance. People who became diabetic from obesity, I would suggest first to go on keto with intermittent fasting skipping dinner. No one needs to eat before bed. Then when the ideal weight loss is achieved, quit the keto bc meat is toxic and the body can't live on keto forever so adopt the fruit veggies and grain lifestyle with suplements, exercise and predominantly raw foods. Slowly, transit into starches and then you can live healthy for a very long time eating vegan mostly raw in season fully organic and include starches as well. THIS WORKS

I am not overweight but my A1C is over 7 so I have been on pills for years. I was just introduced to the starch solution TODAY and am watching all the videos I can to learn more. I’m wondering what you do with patients/clients that have high A1C but aren’t overweight? Thank you!

I have tried the starch solution diet he recommends, my sugar goes through the roof. Even 3 ounces of sweet potatoes raises it. There is nothing g in his book the starch solution that I can follow, when I try to get an answer from him there is no response about the matter. Everyone is praising the carnivore diet, but I am worried about the amount of meat one has to eat. Just don't know who to listen to. The people he says eat lots of potatoes or rice from other countries, are people who are working from the time they get up until bedtime in those far lands

I wish I knew what to do. Other doctors here on RU-vid say just the opposite, and push a Keto diet. I'm 70 years old, Type 2 diabetic, with blood sugar running 350+ and weight just under 300 pounds. I gained most of my weight starting after my strokes 20+ years ago (caused by untreated hypertension), and now spend my life in a power wheelchair, with fatty liver and swollen legs, plus a cracked hip and fused vertebrae. I'd love to lose this fat. 20 years ago, I was active. I just dream of having some quality of life for my last years.

The reason both diets work for most people is because they avoid combining high carb with high fat. That is the issue. You can eat high carb whole foods or high fat whole foods just don’t combine those two macros at the same meal. The metabolism can’t handle them well at the same time. Eat whole foods, don’t mix high fat and high carb at any meal, get plenty of fiber from non-starchy vegetables, and you’ll be fine. I would add that, the only thing I don’t like about McDougall’s starch solution is that people, especially middle age and up, are not consuming enough protein. Swap out some of the starch on your plate for some low fat protein like beans, tofu, fish, etc., and you’ll have a good balanced diet.

Remember that type I is different from II, in that type II can be cured by diet and type i can't. So, be careful of that. Type I will rely on getting insulin from outside her body because cow's milk proteins damaged the insulin producing cells in her pancreas. This causes the huge majority--if not all--of Type I and insulin deficiency of all kinds. MILK: it DOESN'T do the body good.

Where were your vegetables? 1/2 plate of non starchy veggies, 1/4 vegan protein, and 1/4 starch. Another trick to try is cooking your beans & potatoes in advance then cooling them in the fridge to create resistant starch. You can then reheat them if you wish. My blood sugar doesn't spike as high when I do this. Also make sure you don't cook with oil, margarine, coconut or other fats as fat impairs insulin's ability to work
