Eating Street Food on the Sidewalks of Surabaya

After checking into our hotel, we explored the sidewalks of Surabaya to find the best Indonesian food in the city. We ended up trying Soto Lamongan, Rawon Setan, and Kepiting and a special location at the end! We didn't think we would find so many incredible dishes in this amazing city. You guys are in my hometown! So glad you guys enjoyed your visit! It's been 2 years I'm abroad & I can't come home due to pandemic restriction so watching your video riding through the city and small alleys kinda cure my homesick. Since you guys love sambal, I would recommend Bu Rudy Restaurant, it's best known for their variety of sambal & also try their baked tuna with herb rice wrapped in banana leaf. Stay safe exploring!

My suggest from me (arek suroboyo) : Appertizer : jajan pasar (sooo many kind of them) + martabak + terangbulan Main course : bebek goreng (so many famous place sell it like qomar, ht, petemon, cak yudi, janggut, sinjay n many more) + nasi / mie goreng jawa cemek (kapasan and many more), Dessert : if usually you eat some ice cream or gelato, now you can try es puter (eskimo or zangrandi), also can try es kacang ijo ..

When you sit on the side of the street to eat your food, we called it "lesehan". The term is Javanese. Basically means sitting on the floor. Not only street food, sometimes medium-size local restaurant offer Lesehan area for their guests.

1. GWalk. Whole street full of food! Sooooo many kinds of food from end to end. It's a MUST when visiting Surabaya! 2. The 2nd largest shopping mall in Indonesia: Tunjungan Plaza! Tunjungan Plaza is the number 1 destination in Surabaya! People say "If you haven't been to Tunjungan, you haven't been to Surabaya". 3. The largest shopping mall in Indonesia: Pakuwon Mall in West Surabaya. 4. Pasar Malam Cap Tunjungan. May 31st - July 4th at Pakuwon City Mall in East Surabaya. It's an annual food festival with soooo many amazing food: Indonesian, modern Indonesian, Asian & Western cuisines, and so much more. Must visit! 5. Taking bus while paying with plastic bottle trash. Go around Surabaya FREELY with only several plastic bottles. This is unique in Indonesia. 5. Surabaya has many beautiful gardens! Some are: Taman Harmoni Keputih, Taman Bungkul, Taman Apsari, Taman Ekspresi, Taman Prestasi. Taman Surabaya in North Surabaya hosts the largest crocodile-shark statue (the symbol of the city), right by the coastline. 6. Suramadu. The largest bridge in Indonesia. But it's not on par with Golden Gate Bridge 😂.

im a surabayan, i recommend don't eat what google recomendation or tour guide recomendation. heres what the best street food in surabaya, i will mention the hidden food gems that even surabayan don't know this good food. 1. fried rice ( nasi goreng ranjau at Kertajaya st. ), 2. Bakso ( Bakso tetelan Pak Jhon at Hayam wuruk st. ), 3. Mie ayam/chicken noodle ( mie ayam Cak Gondrong at Sidomulyo st.), 4. Satay Padang ( at Pandegiling st.), 5. fried duck ( Bebek semangat at Dolly/ Dukuh Kupang st.). try it and thanks me later

My home is in the south of Juanda International Airport, so basically Surabaya is my hometown. There is some Surabaya traditional foods like Lontong Balap, Tahu Campur, Tahu Telor, Bebek Goreng / Fried Duck, Pecel Semanggi ( it's little bit hard to find it someone who sell it today so you maybe can try Pecel Madiun / Pecel Kediri ), Rujak Cingur ( it's maybe taste weird even for Indonesian people, but we Surabaya people's love it so much ), Sate Kelopo, and you already try Soto Ayam Lamongan so maybe you can try Soto Daging Madura ( with Beef ) when you comeback to Surabaya.

You won't find a delicious rawon outside surabaya & malang. That seafood place is expensive because it located in the center of surabaya. You should try nasi goreng javanese style in that area. It's a legend nasi goreng. If you go to that area at day, you should try soto ayam kenari (its already 4th generation) and compare it with soto cak riban (their location is near). One of legendary food in that area is rujak cingur genteng. They sell a delicious oxtail soup too.

The most iconic soto in Surabaya: Soto Ayam Pak Sadi. It's sooo delicious! It's different from other sotos. You can taste the "thickness" of the broth. It's made of REAL high quality chicken broth! It doesn't taste watery. Cheap sotos taste watery, thin, and bland. But Pak Sadi is the real deal! Bu Rudy is also an iconic culinary destination in Surabaya. Very famous. Super delicious authentic Indonesian food.

Hai Alex, wow It's a cool experience. I just wonder have you ever experienced food poisoning, because you used like to eat street food, but I think as a traveller you already have a strong stomach 😁😁😁

only from fast food restaurants, never from street food. I only eat where the locals eat
