Gotta love the supper clubs with the steak, chicken, massive salad bar, and eight different potato options for your side. Just bar culture is different here, which is why the food is so much better. Also highly recommend bloody mary drinks if you like tomato juice. Load it up with all the toppings, meat, cheese, and veggies, good to go!

You mentioned Door Country, they are known for the cherries they grow there. Also in addition to beers and old fashions, Wisconsin has some really good wine. Cedar Creek Winery in Cedarburg has fantastic wine, special summer wine for Strawberry Fest is their Strawberry Blush.

Don't forget Wollersheim Winery. Take a short trip just a little northwest of Madison to Sauk Prairie and have yourself a great wine and cheese party. Get the wine from Wollersheim in Prairie du Sac after taking a tour, then stop at Carr Valley Cheese in Sauk City (the two are separate towns a few miles apart so have been combined into one municipal area). There is even a cute little motel halfway between the two on Hwy 12 so you don't have to drive anywhere after imbibing.

Unfortunately Door County cherry production is not what it once was. Or maybe fortunately because of all the nasty chemicals that were used back in the day.

Along the shore of Lake Superior there were several smoke fish shops selling superb smoked fish caught in Lake Superior. I miss those place so much, especially when I see the prices for smoked fish in the high end grocery stores here in Dallas. Mars is fake Wisconsin for the FIBs. Sconnies know that the best local cheese can be found at franchise (not big chain) grocery stores like Sentry and Piggly Wiggly. If you are in the Milwaukee area, some larger Sendiks (both red bag and the other one) carry a large selection of Wisconsin cheeses you won't find at places like Mars and big box groceries.

Kewpies (diner that has been around for many years!) they make their own root beer! MKE: Leon’s frozen Custard in Milwaukee is a historic staple! Definitely a must try! San Dong Express right by the MKE airport is also delicious. The Crab Rangoon is so good! There’s a spot called McBobs in MKE and they have great corned beef! Culver's is fine, but Solly's is the quintessential butter burger. Yes Walleye is excellent for fish fries but perch is just as common and I would venture is more local to Wisconsin than other fish. Growing up in the 80s and 90s, the best fish fries were actually served at bowling alleys, but that's not as true anymore. Door County cherries are in everything, including wine. Respect for the love given to Kwik Trip and Kringle, though.

Probably the best burger joint in Green Bay is Kroll's. It's kind of legendary. You go to Kroll's before the game, then you go to Lambeau. Best local packaged foods (aside from beer and cheese) are Milwaukee's pickles, Usinger's sausage and Ma Baensch's pickled herring. Ooh, Ma Baensch's pickled herring. That one might sound a bit off-course, but try it. The creamed variety is slightĺy nicer.

Are you sure your friend wasnt talking about Cannibal Sandwiches at the end? I've lived in Wisconsin all my life and my family has been in the state since it was a territory and I have never heard of Steak Tar-Tar being a common thing. Cannibal Sandwiches on the other had are an old German-Wisconsin tradition that descends from Mett Bröechten (i think i spelt that right) and consists of raw ground sirloin mixed with raw white onions on rye and can either be eaten as an open face or closed sandwich.

You did an excellent job! the right foods and the right details... made me so homesick. Things I always buy when back in Wisconsin to take home: Old Dutch Potato Chips (from Minnesota, but still). Top the Tater chip dip (ditto Minnesota, but still), yes, New Glarus beer, a dozen Sheboygan style hard rolls, fresh curds, fresh Colby cheese, and I only WISH I could take home some thin crust extra cheesy pep & sausage pizza cut in squares, but it doesn't travel well LOL. Again a really excellent job covering the best Wisconsin eats. PS came back to add, have you tried the smoked whitefish dip? yummy appetizer in many restaurants. And I had to laugh at your steak tartare description.... my mom and dad loved their raw ground beef open face "sandwiches," with rings of raw white onion. I'm still traumatized LOL.

Cheesehead is an old school diss from Chicago fans that us Packers fans embraced
@hectorsmommy1717
@hectorsmommy1717 9 месяцев назад
It started because of a dis from White Sox fans at Brewer games back when they were still in the AL (although "cheesehead" was much older). The very first cheesehead hat was worn to a Brewers-Sox game in 1987 because Ralph Bruno got tired of bring called one so he took an old couch cushion and cut and painted it and wore it to a game. It was a Brewers thing for a couple years before a few people started wearing them to Packer games. The national TV exposure from the NFL made it into the phenomenon it became.

@@TheMasonK I'm from Green Bay. That is real Wisconsin. You are probably near the Minnesota border or Illinois border and are Vikings/Bears fans. Of course, I know Kwik Trip, Culver's, and Spotted Cow, but we don't eat weird Norwegian meatballs. Maybe in Minnesota, they do.

ABSOLUTELY try a good supper club if you've never done it. Worth the stop and they're disappearing.
