Hi Collectors. That's right I spent $1200 on an "unsearched" roll of uncirculated Morgan Silver dollars from an auction site hoping to get high grade uncirculated coins. I sent them out to be professionally graded to make sure I was not scammed. Well the coins are graded and I have them! I'll let you decide if I was scammed. That being said I urge every collector to watch this video to educate themselves on what to be aware of before buying coins from anyone
I post several new videos weekly so please subscribe if you wish to see more

Of course the scammers will only offer you your money back on an UNOPENED ROLL ONLY. They don't want you to discover what REALLY is in their rolls and what they SEEDED inside their rolls. I noticed they were all common dates too. WOW! WHAT A COINCIDENCE! Well, hope you have better success with your coin hunts.

The "cleaned" designation is likely coming from over-dipping, not wiping. These blast white "uncirculated" Morgans are often low MS coins that have been dipped into oblivion and photographed at angles to hide contact marks and pock marks caused by the dip. Nobody is going to sell a BU CC Morgan dollar raw if it will grade. There's a reason these coins are ALWAYS raw. These sellers make me sick. Only educating buyers will fix this problem. I'm glad you were able to get some of your money back. Even the AU coins you got were likely dipped. The white luster can mask the slight wear on the hair and breast feathers. I hate to think of the many more coins these sellers are dipping and getting poor results on. Original skin is getting rare, even with common years. When I see truly BU raw coins with original skin, even common years, I buy them.

Technically, Gem BU is 65 or higher but I had a misleading mindset that a MS63 was considered a Gem BU. I am not any more knowledgeable than you or anyone here but that is just what I thought. It is was cool to see an opening of one of those Morgan rolls and the grading, knowing that I will probably never be able to get one as they are so expensive. Sliders (AU58 coins, usually with nearly full luster) were the bane of collectors in the early 80s before the advent of slabbing. I've still got some Franklin halves I bought in about 1983 which were graded BU according to the inserts but they are in fact sliders. I didn't know at the time that you don't always find wear on the high points with coins like that, but there will be disturbances in the fields that can't occur in a mint bag. Your 1881-S AU58 at 5:35 is a great example of this. At arm's length the coin looks fully lustrous and uncirculated, but note the rub in the field in front of Liberty's head and nose.

Literally the only possible advantage these might have over other means of obtaining Morgans are the mixed dates, but even this falls flat as the rolls are deliberately picked through, rather than being put through a coin rolling machine like how APMEX and other bullion dealers do. I’d quite like to have a full date run of the Morgan dollars in the future, but I’ll continue to be giving these rolls a wide berth - not only do you get what you pay for too, but it’s much more convenient to simply buy in bulk from a bullion dealer or pick the dates and grades you want individually.

I can’t remember where you said you brought them but I really hope you didn’t get them from eBay , it is what it is . You can’t take anyone on there word on eBay when it comes to morgan rolls , it’s the biggest and well known coin roll scam there is. I feel very bad for you, you need to call this seller out. If you can’t see it do not buy it , any normal person who had a unsearched morgan roll would get them graded themselves after all they are a seller after money why would you give up that pay day ? That alone speaks volumes that you are being scammed, I’ve seen this happen time and again with morgan rolls it never ever works out in the buyers favour , yet some buyers , not saying you , but some buyers keep buying more and then more thinking they will get a good roll soon , and it never happens . There does not exist any real coin dealer who could not resist the temptation to see if there is something amazing in a unc morgan roll, unfortunately they played on your heart strings I mean shit , who can resist Morgan’s let alone a unsearched roll. I hope you get a refund , I heard PayPal and eBay don’t do refunds on gold and silver, I hope that’s not true. I hope it didn’t take to long to get the coins back from grading because all the time you took to make you complaint will now most likely work against you just like the scammer new it would . The scammer was a real pro at this because those Morgan’s didn’t look cleaned , question , do you actually youse a microscope when you grade ? I can’t wait to see what happens and thank you for sharing it takes a real man to share his big fuck ups with the world , and yes my friend I have learned from this it was very educational. If I am ever in the same position I hope I am strong enough to leave my heart out of it and youse my brain because this was a scam from start to finish and you walked straight into it. Great video 👍

"Buyer Beware" when purchasing "uncirculated" bank wrapped rolls of coins. Unfortunately many of these will have coins that are cleaned or "sliders" high grade AU's like 58 or 58+ that are just below the threshold of MS60

How can a seller truly GUARANTEE what is in a roll if it's unsearched like advertised? They would have NO IDEA like they buyer would have UNLESS THEY'RE PUTTING THE ROLLS TOGETHER THEMSELVES. Weight doesn't cut it. An AU coin would weigh the same as a BU one does. That is a cop out excuse only a scammer would use.

They can’t which is why the auction is misleading

Those sellers of rolls with perfect feedback don't actually have that. In the feedback profile look to see how many "revised feedback" numbers they have. Everyone of those "revised feedbacks" is a negative or neutral feedback that was taken away or revised because of a refund or partial refund to the buyer.

Never, never, never send a big lot of coins in to be graded together! That’s a big NO NO!! You should’ve sent the best looking one and the least best looking one in and compared them against your other 18 so you would have a professional grading standard to go by. No grader will grade 20 coins of the same kind and give you all MS 64-65. I learned this from grading cards and it has saved me and made me a lot of money! And always assume 1 to 2 pt lower grade unless you have a really true eye for coins. The grader could be in a bad mood, in a hurry, or jealous and thinking I’m not going to make this person rich. Sounds crazy but it’s true!
@TheCollectorOfCoins
@TheCollectorOfCoins Год назад
That’s not entirely accurate. Since this video I took ANA grading classes and learned that AU/MS is considered market grading and subjective but I now know the difference in what the grading services consider each MS grade. Further the bulk grading service of 100 coins is the most economical

Bought a few ourselves... yes they came back cleaned and low grade. The seller was Sterling Collectibles and a lot of his rolls start at over $2400 a roll. This lottery is fixed. The ends are always CC, but that is the ONLY coin. In fact that is one that came back as a cleaned coin. As did another "key date" as UNC cleaned.

PCGS definition of altered surfaces which includes "anything done to a coin to improve its appearance" should include dipping. Unfortunately dipping is done to either remove the original skin or natural tone of a coin, or in hopes of the coin getting a higher grade when slabbed. The intention of trying to get a higher grade out of a coin by dipping is why I think they should be considered as having altered surfaces, IMHO

You hate to see that happen. "Unsearched" Morgan rolls are scams 100% of the time. At best you'll get a couple sweet decoy coin enders, but overpay for everything else. Even if every coin in the center were MS63, you'd still be at a loss. As it is, it's full of the most common years like 1881-S, 1883-O, 1886, 1887, 1889, 1896, 1898-O, 1902-O, so these coins were hand-picked to be as cheap as possible.

Unfortunately this is on the buyer. If the roll is truly unopened and unsearched, how would the seller know what is behind the first coin? No one could possibly even guarantee anything past the roll enders under those pretenses. The buyer took a gamble and the gamble didn’t pay off. There is no roll that exists that is unsearched. Do your research and learn the history of the coins. Education is your best friend in coin collecting. Don’t ever buy a coin you can’t see, don’t buy a coin where you are hoping for a grade. If you don’t know the true grade, don’t buy it. Educate your grading skills first and foremost!

@i.n.g9308
@i.n.g9308 2 года назад
@@TheCollectorOfCoins coin grading is subjective not definite. MS 63 is average uncirculated condition. As population numbers change throughout time the grades will lean one way or another. For example, coins that are in old holders (1 generation) will typically upgrade a full grade when submitted now. Also, you can the submit same exact coin, (raw-ungraded) multiple times to the same company and it can receive different grades. This has happened to me many times at pcgs. I don’t agree with the seller and I think the people that sell those rolls are terrible but, if it seems to good to be true then it probably is. Basically, it’s not impossible, but it’s very difficult to “guarantee” a grade on any raw coin. The stuff that is being sold like this technically is a gray area of false adverting the way I see it.
