You got good use of your turbo from eBay. Been running a similar one for about 2 years now at a steady 30psi and have had zero problems with it. Thank you for sharing this brother.
As someone who sounds like Nicolas Cage I found myself wondering when I was running 40psi and recording these videos. Maybe it’s like Fight Club and I’m Tyler Durden as voiced by Nicolas Cage. Or maybe I’m the Narrator.
Main problem with chinese knockoff turbos (and other chinese junk) is their quality control. You may get a relatively good turbo, or the most likely, absolute garbage turbo that won't last after just one pull on the dyno. If you can't spend the money on a real turbo, can you afford what happens to your engine if the blades breaks off and go inside your engine?
4 percent failure rate still seems pretty high for a precision part. Says to me the problem is not with the design or materials (rate would be much higher) but with quality control.
And therein lies the beauty of what we do. Guys like me and you who can turn a wrench and afford a little down time can save a ton of money taking a chance on parts. Guys who need somebody else to install parts might be better off doing the job once with a reasonable guarantee that they won't have to do it again. I've got a half-dozen people trying to spend 9k of my money to build an EJ255 because "you can't reuse that, and it has to be name-brand aftermarket super-race parts." I'll be done in less than $1500 including machine work. Why? Because I'm not building super-race; I evaluated my needs, my budget, and most importantly...my skills. Seems like you do the same. Wrench on, and like ETG says: STAY DIRTY.
TPP is a Fascist System they don't need re balanced. Every part of them is factory balanced or they would explode on the first time hitting boost. Turbos spin over 50,000 rpm
China has been at this for a while now and I believe they're in the groove as far as reliability, on turbos used as prescribed. I would however disassemble and inspect one before putting it in service. It's probably also a good idea not to buy the cheapest you can find as that affects quality also. It's not a weak spot when it fails under loads well in excess of its design. It looks like it was spun beyond its rpm limits and the turbine wheel started to come apart. A compressor end that could move a bit more air on that same unit might have held up a lot better and having a water cooled center section wouldn't hurt. It didn't have a catastrophic failure under those conditions so I'd say it was pretty well made, especially for $165.
I made 60psi. It blew up within 5 seconds. I wasn’t educated on turbos to know you shouldn’t try that. It caused a rod to toss a bearing. Costing my thousands and a lot of my own time rebuild my boxer motor. But it runs. Stick to 22psi unless dragging
I'm still running another of the same turbo but this time I put a 60mm cold side on it. Slow spool but insane power after 4500rpm. Will post Dyno video after clutch replacement
Hi MrPhukyew I read this whole comments related to this Vid post. Very interesting. I see some turbo's with the balance indication on the nuts. and some not. I saw vid's that guys used some turbos with the compressor wheels flow away because the nut loose while driving. I am not sure there is only one Manifacture or maybe you are using the same link to order your turbo's. I like your test. I like actual test real life proofs. I like to geth one or two links of the turbo's you order.i need A very quick spool turbo for a LS1 stock. The turbo must spool quick less lag.low Rpm spool.
Because everyone is pretty much asking the same thing can you make a video of you buying a ebay turbo. Go through it and basically tell people what to look for before installing. I thought about a cheap bigger turbo for my b7 a4 for the hell of it.
Hi MrPhukyew. You are showing this video to proof ebay turbo. but you didn't share the link. I think you made your point. i goth your reason. Nice video.
sicklotus I'm sure they probably were. It started to lean out a little at 40psi and I let off but it was too late. Now I have another of the same turbo and left it at 28psi for now. Working great. Look on my channel for the other video of this car racing. Modded gsxr600
hxgs you 100% missed the point of the video. 30psi daily for a couple years with spikes of up to 34psi. I raised the boost because I didn't care if it popped and wanted to see what it could do. if your gonna talk shit just stay off the comment list
hxgs you realize "eBay turbos" do not exist? that's why I emphasize the stupidity of that statement with " ". the turbos sold on eBay range in brand name and in price. eBay however does not make parts. eBay is not a brand. these turbos are all made by 2 main manufacturers in China and sold around the world to all different distributors. CX racing, JDM sport, emusa, and many more. everybody puts a different name on them and sells them for a profit. I've been installing these on customer cars since 2011 and had great luck with low or high boost setups. many of my 30 psi builds are daily driven without issue for years on end. my car is a good example of that. I set a record with the turbo in this video. most powerful untuned 4 cyl ever. when you start setting records you can start giving me advice but until then you can go learn a lil more about turbos.
MrPhukyew when an ebay turbo blows and ruins your build you can give me advice on it. regardless of branding on turbos sold on ebay, they don't hold up compared to garrett or borgwarner. i've had low end and high end, and i know what i will always pick when it comes to it next time
I 100% understand that I was being facetious when I made that comment on the video. For a turbo to last years on end at that kind of boost level after only costing $160 from China I give it a five-star rating every time
I have another one of these cheap turbos that I'm going to be doing a video about soon, it was on my turbo 4.8 l Chevy truck and I replaced that engine with a 6.0 and I kept the same turbo which was definitely over speeding it at this point because this turbo was barely big enough for the 4.8 to begin with. This turbo went an entire 60,000 miles through two different owners and got two blades chipped along the way and still made great power and spooled immediately. Didn't even burn oil. Now I'm contemplating using it on a third engine even though it has chipped blades and more shaft play than a 40-year-old hooker. I'm slow at making videos because I have such a busy shop but stay tuned.
Venom Blueangry the chinese turbos or "ebay turbos" (as all the idiots call them) are all made by the same 2 chinese manufacturers and shipped to dealers/sellers that put their name on them and resell them at higher prices. i got this turbo new and it has a lot of use on it and was always 30psi till i cranked the boost up and broke it.
Josh they are pretty much all the same. All the no name brand turbos sold on eBay come from 2 main manufacturers in China. They engrave all different names on them and stuff but they are all the same parts
MrPhukyew my current daily driver has an eBay turbo, I've ran 26lbs for a few years now and it's still good. I'm starting a project on an old VW rabbit soon. It only makes 90-100 hp stock. I've been contemplating what turbo to run on it, probably another eBay one. Something real small though, only looking for 220-250 hp with a fast spool.
Brandon Somerville its called a "t70" its a twin scroll .82 hot side and about 56mm cold side. ive used them on everything from a 2.0 to a 5.3 vortec. they are good for about 600whp on a good tune and e85
miam0828 you mean for oil fittings? Its a 3/8 npt fitting on the block downsized with brass fitting to 1/8" npt and run through an oil cooler to the turbo. The drain line is universal 5/8" hose clamped on with a piece of 5/8" pipe welded in to the front of the pan.
Thanks, what part do you call the one were clamp the oil feedline in the turbo? Im lookin at ebay and i couldnt find something like that. Is there a part like that.. im also looking at 1/8” tranny cooler lines and couldnt find one as well. Pls help. Thanks
I heard the problem with Chinese turbos is the shaft is always undersized in relation to the compressor wheel, like an 88mm China turbo would have the shaft of a 67mm turbo. Does this hold water?
Chuck Beef I haven't actually encounter that problem in the 50 plus turbos that I have installed. I have found that many different models of the Chinese turbos have a lot of parts that interchange with many different various models of Garrett turbos and sometimes turbonetics.
Jaime Huerta all the chinese turbos are made by 2 main manufacturers. other sellers or "stores" just etch their name into them and sell them. it honestly doesnt matter who you buy it from. just make sure your oil system is good.
Do you even English bro? Has nothing to do with weld at all. The Chinese turbo held 30+ psi for years and died when I tried 40psi. You got any cars that daily at 30+psi? Go fuck yourself
