Unboxing of my EBC Slotted Rotors in high def 1080p
Part 1 - • EBC Slotted Rotors Unb...
Part 2 - • EBC Slotted Rotors Unb...
USR Slotted Rotors
Description from the EBC Site
===========================
Choose from EBC plain non drilled rotors or sport rotors in two choices - wide aperture GD Sport Rotors series for cooler running or new super silent Ultimax USR slotted rotor series. All EBC rotors including USR Slotted Rotors are British made and are precision machined in the UK. Rotors are made from high quality grey iron to exacting standards and undergo extensive testing and rigorous quality control. Slotted rotors can significantly improve brake performance and longevity when used with a matching high friction brake pad set. Having sold hundreds of thousands of brake kits EBC Brakes feel confident their approach is as perfect as it gets.
EBC recommend the use of a premium pad such as Redstuff brake pads or Yellowstuff brake pads to complement your new USR slotted rotors which will provide the optimum balance of life and performance. All EBC sport rotors are final machined in the UK and many of the castings used in EBC rotors are also UK made. In manufacture the EBC rotors are 100% runout inspected to a maximum of 0.1 mm total indiocator reading or 0.004 inches and should be runout checked after install on your car. If your car develops brake vibration after 3000-4000 miles this will be due entirely to a runout issue which happens on one in seven road vehicles. Most OEM builders Pro Cut turn rotors from new at install to avoid this problem and EBC reccomends highly the Pro Cut on car brake lathes at your disc install.

I bought the non-slotted/drilled black EBCs front and rear with Akebono ceramic pads. Love the set up. Super quiet, straight emergency stops (a 2012 Mustang) almost no dust - that I can see. Been 5 years now. Last inspection- zero corrosion anywhere on the discs. EBCs are definitely high manufacturing quality. These will last the life of the car - as long as I change the pads on time.

I had these for my 09 Jag XF Supercharged for 6 years along with Akebono brake pads. Best step up, pads finally wore out so I decided to replace the rotor with the same USR and red stuff since Akebono stopped making pads for my jag. I changed them myself this past June and am very happy still. Just one downside to Redstuff compared to Akebono is the brake dust. The Akebono created the lowest brake dust I’ve ever seen. Overall I’m very happy, and ordered another set today for my 12 Jag XJL Supercharged. And to the people saying the drilled rotors are bad in general are correct to some extent. EBC’s “drilled” rotors aren’t actually drilled. When they are making the rotor they make the holes then, compared to other rotor companies drilling once the rotor is made. Thus EBC drilled rotors are safe. Also drilled rotors don’t really help with much besides looks. That is why racing companies prefer to choose slotted over drilled. Slotted keeps the rotors cooler by relieving gasses and debris.

Here's how I see it: $300 to do the front axle myself w/USR + Greenstuff 6000, vs. $400 at a garage for stock equivalent parts. Not surprised to hear that bringing your own EBC saves you money at the shop.

It relieves gasses to having them slotted. I just ordered and received drilled and slotted rotors from ECS and they come with a protective coating that is baked on very nice rotors. They had these EBC ones on there sight as well.

kevin leigh I wonder why race cars use them then???? If they did nothing they would just use non slotted drilled rotors and they surely wouldn't put them on Porches's and Lamborghini's for marketing. I just put an unbelievable set on my BMW E46 and my car stops on a dime! And after braking hard all the time when you drive like I do when I can any other rotor would of heated and warped by now and iv'e only had them on my car for a couple months. You don't know what your talking about. Don't bother replying back I don't want to hear any more stupid shit today!

kevin leigh First off it sounds like you can't afford them, that's why your knocking them! That's usually the case......JEALOUSY!!! Why in the world would they make different ones you stupid fuck? If anything they would just make them out of different metals and say this is a way better metal that wont warp. They've done study's on all of this and a drilled rotors stay a lot cooler than a none drilled one. Not only that when you create heat you create gases, that can get in between the pad and rotor, which in return will not make you stop that good. With slotted or drilled or both these gases escape threw the slots or holes dumb dumb! I just bought a Mercedes C 230 AMG Sport that came right from the factory with cross drilled rotors and it also has massive calipers that say Mercedes on them? So I did my research and there Brembo calipers right from the factory as well. Why do you think that is? Cause it's a high performance car that will get up to speeds that require hard braking. I don't think your the brightest bulb on the tree?

The slots don't have anything to do with water. It's to help vent heat from the rotor. They absolutely do not make you stop faster/sooner. It just keeps them cooler.
@ivankong1065
@ivankong1065 Год назад
I believe the dots are to help ventilation but the slots are actually there to scrape off uneven brake material off the pads, but I might be wrong

Besides being on the box, how would you tell which one is supposed to be on the right of the vehicle, and which one should be on the right?
@ShanPrez
@ShanPrez 8 лет назад
You can tell by the slot pattern direction. The slots should be angled back not forward...

Thank you so much for the review. I think it's time for mine to be replaced as I just hit 40000 miles. Any idea how long do these last for?
@PoolarityChannel
@PoolarityChannel 9 лет назад
if you look at the slots etched on the rotors are they worn? Are they evenly worn? You can tell by the slots when you should replace them. That depends very much on your driving habits, you might be one who doesn't use brakes much, or one that uses brakes heavily.

You said they are made from steel. It says Hi Graphite Cast Iron on the box?

Trust the box, but whatever its made, it shreads the brakes. I gave up on the EBC after 2 yrs and used Centric Premium ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nlZSbUqEKgM.html and I couldn't be happier

Steel? Brake discs are made of iron as steel rotors would melt on a car

Slotted EBC discs..you say they're cast iron? I'm pretty sure they are carbon steel..least my EBC discs are which I fitted to my mini cooper. 😉

Lol water? No. Just no. It's to disperse the hot gas that comes from the pad making contact with the rotor at high speeds.

slotted or cross drilled rotors are less safe than your normal plain jane rotors from autozone. They are used for racing purposes not street purposes. Performance cars usually don't even use slotted or cross drilled for the risk of a pad cracking and breaking. Because there are notches taken out of the rotors there is a higher risk of cracking because of strength and also temperature change. with a hole in the rotor, the area around the hole is going to be much cooler than the say a area that is in between the holes. Also, usually if you buy a set of rotors and pads, the pads that come with them are made of a certain material that takes awhile to heat up in order to grip the rotor, for uses on say a racetrack where they have warm up laps. If im in my mini van and i have children in the car i would have your regular jane cast iron rotors with normal ol pads because they will have a lot better initial bite and don't have to heat up like performance brakes.
@penniwyz2
@penniwyz2 7 лет назад
Ryan you're confusing slotted and cross drilled as the same thing. slotted don't pose any problems other than increased pad wear. they wipe the pad surface clean giving optimum grab, but they don not cause cracking like the cross drilled. not all cross drilled are bad, better brrak companies use better materials. but you will still find slotted rotors on race cars.

People like you shouldn't do reviews especially when it comes to Brakes on people's car. You really have no idea what you're talking about. Slotted rotors don't reduce water... 2 to 6 inches of braking distance??? Wow... youtube should banned you.
