This is the first video on a few players that I though had an amazing series. Eben has to be in consideration is the GOAT when it comes to lock for the Springboks. The guys strikes fear into the opponents. He played a massive role in the series win for the Springboks.

Whoever thinks that Eben is a "dirty player", remember that he's only received 2 yellow cards in 88 test matches, both of which were for technical offenses.

I’m English, this dude is a legend. Drives the English squad mental and messes with their heads that combined with his enormous size he’s a quality player. RSA have been a feared threat for England for god knows how long.

He is as aggressive as Bakkies, but Bakkies was way more malicious, in his intent and execution in dishing out physical abuse. Eben on the other hand is a brut that want every player on the opposition to know his is King Kong, and if you even for a second doubt that he will come say hi all up in your face

A skilled, rugged outside back stuck in a locks body. ABs fan BUT Eben has to be on target to becoming one of the greatest SA locks ever and a mortgage on best international lock since 2019. Great edit!

Watching this, shows how brilliant his game sense is, how hard he works and how he impacts the entire game, - not just his Bruteforce. Bakkies 2.0 never seems to get tired . When he goes off the field for injury, the loss is felt throughout the game.

He made those lions look like little cubs at times. Sa has always been blessed with world class locks, from Kobus Wiese to Mark Andrews, then the Matfiled Bakkies era and now Lood Eben and of course Rg Snyman.

Im English and i love watching Eben Etzebeth play. Whilst some fans love how he is always in the middle of any flare ups , or they focus on his opposition. i instead really like how he actually plays . His set peice work os excellent, but i especially like how he hits rucks Very smart player in his positioning and game management. Excellent player

ABs supporter here. Absolutely nothing wrong with the attitude Eben plays the game, all heart and a wee bit of mongrel. This game was made for breeds like him. Like Umaga said, this aint tiddlywinks. On a side note, I'd have Matfield and Eben in my all time top 2 locks.

This dude is so unbelievably good. I mean obviously he's massive. Has a really good technique for someone who could get away with only force. Developed an really good eye for balls out of the ruck or who to smash to disrupt play. Has an impressive timing, e.g. tackling people catching a kick or when to get out of line to block a kick. Also for a dude that does this much, he still has the energy and speed to chase balls. If this guy learns how to step and kick we have to clone and make a XV of those :D

In Belville Cape Town the Eztebeths are barfighting royalty and tend to be quite short and are prone to short man syndrome. So you get one that is a 2 metre plus giant with that sort of barfighting pedigree, you better believe he’s a brilliant number 4 lock. Just as tough as Juan Smith with bakkies ability to grab people.

I'd put Eben in my top 3 locks, you need that big boi who has an aggressive mindset but skilled and physical too. I find with the ABs we don't have that unit who can disrupt when we are in tight spots or give the opposition something to fear. Retallik and Whitelock are great players but we miss an Eben type. I loved that first grapple with Itoje whilst still being able to remove his head gear 🤣

In fairness to him, his aggression is more controlled now. He used to just dive into little scuffles and almost want it to break out into a huge brawl. Think having the Bok captaincy for a while simmered him. Albeit he’s still a real enforcer. But he’s a quality player to go along with it.

Huge fan of his. But couldn't it be qrgued that 2:01 was a penalty try. He grabbed dvm above the shoulder. So according to the rules a penalty. And since it was try saving, you'd have to regard this passage of play without him. There probably wouldnt have been anyone else to stop the try. Though happy it wasnt ruled as one

SA Rugby's best feature for the last few years is just pushing other teams backwards... So little advantage is made against the Springboks... And opposition fans will say it boring Rugby, and as they say that, the backline explodes and shows them exciting rugby!

When you compare his performances, or even the evidence of this video, to the Lions second row AWJ going backwards or at best sideways in his carries and just generally getting bossed around, it's easy to see how South Africa won the series.
