A range test of my new(ish) Rize Fixie ebike in Toronto. I test how long the battery can go on a full charge using the thumb throttle/max pedal assist.
Recorded on Friday, September 24, 2021 in 4K at 60 FPS with a DJI Pocket 2.
The full ride will be uploaded to this channel shortly.

I just installed my throttle and find it super weak and almost useless. Peddling gives me way more power even if I’m lightly Peddling. I actually used to live on Poplar Plains Road years and years ago. And I am quite surprised that you were able to make it up that hill on the throttle alone. I’m guessing you are a patient man! ;-)
@paulinquebec
@paulinquebec Год назад
After a few months use, I’ve come to love my throttle. It’s a lot weaker than peddling, but it does help get you off the start quick and gives you power peddling when you’re in traffic and need it.

Nice video. So just to be clear. You only used the pedals when you set off? So the bike can basically do 30km on a single charge on battery only with basically zero assists from your side. If this is the case. Thank you very much. I honestly thought it would at least do double that as per the website.
@JohnnyStumbles
@JohnnyStumbles 2 года назад
That's correct. The advertised range is under ideal conditions. I could easily get double the range if I wasn't jamming the throttle the entire time.

Nice video! How is the bike riding after the battery was dead, was there extra resistance due to the electric motor. I’m assuming it’s good in its class due to being lightweight. But how hard was it really comparative to a regular bicycle?

Also love to know this.
@paulinquebec
@paulinquebec Год назад
I think I can answer this. When you’re in any gear from one to whatever it will give some resistance. But when it’s completely off, there’s no resistance at all and it really feels a lot like a heavier bike with a gear set fairly high. But not that heavy. I started off today as I often do with no power at all, and I happened to have been on a flat area and I got up to a very quick speed with no trouble. I’ve gone for more than a kilometre to even two, when it feels good to ride like that. it reminds me a lot of those Dutch one speed bikes. But of course, as soon as there is a hill, you have to push. In other words, I’m not at all afraid of running out of power on my way home from work because the area I live in is not that hilly.

when my rize X (fat tire bike) ran out of battery, it was almost impossible to ride without the motor because of how heavy it was. Is riding this bike when the battery is dead easy / feel like just riding a normal bike?
@kiranjaybabla8925

I rode this bike in Vancouver the other day with the battery off. Feels like a normal fixie, albeit a tiny bit heavier.

To add however, it looks and has the same specs of the KBO hurricane which is cheaper.

Really considering this one for commuting to work near Vancouver. Are you happy with it? I've always had mountain bikes, would this hold out on the rainy days with the narrow tires?
@paulinquebec
@paulinquebec Год назад
The tires are nice for rain, and you can put up to 700 by 32s on them if you want apparently. Not good on regular big hills IMO though. Great otherwise. Love mine so far.

+1 same question
@paulinquebec
@paulinquebec Год назад
IMO you’d always go to 4 or 5 out of 5, since low settings are quite slow. At 5 and riding fast against winds I can get 40km. I think 50 plus would be fair if you wanted to stretch it. Also… it’s okay with motor off on flats and no wind to get you home. Edit: actually it’s pretty hard to get to 40 km an hour and I only get 40 because I said it that way in advance settings. Now that I’ve used it a lot more I know that in most cases I can only get to 40 when I can pedal like a maniac. It’s pretty much the opposite of limit I think. As concerns your original question though I have found that at maximum assist I can go 30 km maybe 40 but to tell you the truth I’ve never actually ran out. I’ve only come close at that distance. I’ve set mine to have seven steps instead of five and now I like to sit it at six mostly and seven up the hills. I think I could get 50 km that way. if you want to get beyond 50 I think you have to set it at quite slow speed. Maybe at a cruising speed around 15 km an hour you’d get into the 70s. That’s just my feeling.
@mohammadhussain8183
@mohammadhussain8183 2 года назад
would you be able to take this bike on trails (not intense mountain biking, just light trails with gravel or dirt), or can it only be used on pavement since the tires are thin?
@bobo42024
@bobo42024 Год назад
Its a road bike. Yes you CAN take it on trails but why would you take a ROAD bike on trails? Get a mountain bike.
@paulinquebec
@paulinquebec Год назад
The tires are wide enough for light gravel or dirt, such as on a bike path. You can go up to 32 for the tires if you want. But there are no shocks to speak of and no absorption in the seat, etc. so really not ideal off-road. Plus since there are no gears, so if you’ve got any kind of a hill it’s got limited options. The electric motor does help but not for longer hills.

What's an average riders mileage on this? Can I get up to 70kms on mostly flat and few small hills? Also how heavy is it to carry up stairs?
@paulinquebec
@paulinquebec Год назад
I get around 40 km on flat terrain, but with the settings maxed out and riding quite fast. I think 70 km is possible but only on low settings which are really slow. But it’s possible.

So each pedal assist level has a limited speed range?
@paulinquebec
@paulinquebec Год назад
No each level is a different force, but high levels eat the battery.
@paulinquebec
@paulinquebec Год назад
I am going to contradict my last comment. Indeed, each level does have a different force, and you would think you could use that force to get to any speed. But i am actually realizing that each force level kind of holds you to a certain limit. At 4 you can get only around 25 km, while at 5 you can get 32, etc. What is weirder is that when you adjust the max above 32 in the advance settings (which is so amazing you can to that!) the level just below it still stays at 25, while only the last level lets me loose to go right to the new 40 max. Anyway, you get used to everything, and don't really think about it too much but rather adjust to the road the ride as you go naturally.

Good video. Don't think I'll be trading in my Giant TCR for this one. You really need gears on a bicycle. I have a 92HP motorcycle if I wanna ride without pedals. Don't trust the company either, to much misinformation. They're basically drop shipping a Chinese bike and pretending they're Canadian. Nothing against China but the best bike's come from Taiwan which, of course is China.
