What does the Netherlands do.....that we cant ? Spent a week in Den Helder used the railway for transport, and those outdoor cycle storage units at each station along the way were incredible to see, 100s of bikes

There are enough empty shops in town centres or shopping centres. The councils could offer pensioners jobs looking after secure bike parking facilities, for a small parking charge. Would i use such a facility? Dam right i would at the moment i don't use my bike to go shopping in town. I have a Cyrusher ovia bike and they're not a cheap bike to replace, bikes are easy targets for thieves. I hope councils across the country look into using empty shops in town centres and convert them into secure bike parking facilities with small parking fees to cover the costs of running them.

It is a good idea in principle, using vacant outlets as in town cycle parking hot-spots , with onsite supervision , although leaseholders of these outlets would be looking for long-term clients. Then, you have to factor in fire risk due to ebike storage and theft risk by criminal gangs Recall a incident where a cycle store had ever diterant alarms, cameras, window shutters , and lost £200,000 worth of bikes and cycle gear overnight Had taken the owner seven months to get a insurance pay out .

I try to always stay with mine but if i have to nip in a shop for a few minutes thrn two locks always go on. And depending on the area and time of day I'll loop in the tyres with my heavy cable. I also give the object im locking it to a good wiggle to make sure its going to stay there. Last thing is my bike alarm goes on. They are just detterants though and someone with a grinder could get it in under three minutes. Its my only transport though and I used to do a fair bit of martial arts, thai boxing and rugby so i wouldn't have a problem defending my property if i had to. Also if walking about i keep easy access to my heaviest chain in case a small group think they can just take it without consequences. Lets hope nothing happens, Murfeys law and all that.

You’re doing the right thing. More deterrents the more likely they’re going to move on to the next bike. The alarmed lock I have is simply for the seat but it’s just something else to put them off. Like you say, battery grinder, diamond cutter … 3 minutes. But you average crackhead has a 1 minute mentality.

I’ve posted a link on my Facebook pages, on here etc. you’ll find the link on the RU-vid Channel … nobody signs it. It’s a click of a button and that’s too much trouble.

@@ModProjects4306 just signed bro. I believe I’m number 33. I will share the link on other videos, if you can please mention the petition in each video to help spread the word. Thank you for your efforts, I’m about to buy a new e-bike and your videos really helped

We recently visited Cambridge - which claims the highest level of cycling in the country (with one in three residents cycling to work !) On the downside they also have one of the highest rates of 'recorded' bike thefts. However thefts have evidently dropped by 40% in the last three years due to the council and police working closer together with the community on various initiatives. These include: cycle security awareness days, bike marking & registration (FREE), sting operations and recovering stolen bikes with proactive patrols. Unlike Wakefield there are designated cycle parking points all around the city, as well as mass ones at the two stations. Most of these are not much better than you showed at that college, BUT the difference is safety in numbers (like sardines in a shoal). When you have thousands of bikes parked daily, opportunistic thieves tend to choose the worst protected 'decent' bikes. So as you said, if you can make your bike look much more of a pain to nick than others nearby - you are golden. Walking around I only saw a few eBikes locked up, but was told at the Tourist Info that Cambridge has an increasing number of secure bike parking options, including bike lockers, monitored station parking and cycle parks. People with more expensive bikes can valet park (paid) in one of these run by a bike shop in the main shopping centre - but they also offer 200 free spaces there as well (and storage lockers). So bottom line, I suppose it depends where live and how popular regular cycling is there. Clearly in Cambridge (which is very flat) it has traditionally been a very bike friendly city - so the council HAS to invest in cycling infrastructure and facilities, because so many taxpayers/voters choose to cycle. Having had a heart op (and blown knee) I never thought I would be able to cycle again. But an eBike on proper bike infrastructure is a total game changer, and a real possibility in some places. So in our case we are now seriously thinking of retiring and moving to Cambridge (hence my lengthy post) - so we can swap our car for eBikes and "start living the dream" of getting more active and healthy...

I've just got a very cheap little ebike, just used for work at the moment, but I use a D lock with a think cable and an alarmed disc lock, the more single locking you have the better, maybe front and read disc and a good thick d lock or hard steal chain, I see locks as thin as laces on some bikes, and they should install ebike charge points in towns and citys, just like e cars, they charge to unlock , they could made money easy, if mine goes flat I cant just take it into a cafe and plug it in, we need proper infrastructure.

Infrastructure is definitely what we need.

if they want it they'll take it and there is nothing you can do to stop them, that's why i leave my e-bike in the shed and use my diesel car to go shopping.
