Yeah I’d really like to see this trend with top end battery density, ultra lightweight frames etc. something you could actually get on top of a car roof rack easily.
@g00fysmiley
@g00fysmiley 4 месяца назад
Battery density at this point is what it is. Batteries ate bot always super heavy though. You can get a 10 lb 15ah 48v battery that is removable. It's the bigger motors and engineering the frame for the power. Once we get solid state batteries, though weight will be saved there we are a few years away there.

Ebikes: Weight - up Load range - up Power - up Distance range - up Now Ebike Class with: Weight - Down Power - Up Range - Up (naturally) Materials - Up (Quality) Safety - Up (UL Listed) Cost - Up (naturally) This is good. The demand for more, and cheaper things does NOT create better goods.

I would absolutely never buy an eBike that needed a phone to turn it on. That's a HUGE failure point. What happens when they no longer update the app and it does not work with a new OS? It becomes a perfectly good throw away bike in a landfill.

This is why I prefer cadence sensors because if you already have the E bike, why would you want to have to strain paddling if you don’t want to. In my opinion, they don’t even really need speed levels on a torque sensor because the torque sensor should determine the level of assist. With cadence sensor the settings one through three or one through five makes sense because you can choose to pedal at whatever speed you want to pedal at and then just adjust your overall speed with the assist level.

This company sent us a used one when they launched two years ago when it had a Carbon Belt Drive. It was one that did it's round with a few other youtubers so when I got it was a bit banged up etc.....lol. Well, the wires that tucked into the frame were a little frayed from so many assembly's and dis-assembly's it didn't work for me so I told them and they said no worries, they will send me a return label and asked me to send it back and they will send out a New Model right after to keep and review. They never sent me another one after that and basically lied and ghosted me 🤦‍♂.......Live and learn. I assume they have improved on a lot of things, tweaking the odds and ends making it better than the pre-launch prototype model🤷‍♂

I guess thinking that e-bikes are our future transportation, I'm excited that both lighter less powerful bikes are available along with very powerful car-replacement designed bikes. Maybe we need a few years using both (and measuring their emissions impact of manufacturing) to gravitate towards one or the other.

This was the direction I was, hoping the industry would take. And a lot of pushback from people wanting to regulate. These bikes, comes from the fact that they are much heavier than regular bicycles. They have a good debate by using that. Hopefully more will take this lead. I am talking about the weight, not the other features.

Yes, if you want speed and range, light is not the answer. A small light battery has little range. A small light motor produces less power, and thus less speed and hill climbing ability. A lightweight composite frame cannot tolerate the power from a bigger motor. For those who have to carry their bikes up and down stairs, or onto busses and trains... then light is the goal. For those who want to seriously commute to work, and not be sweaty when they arrive, more power and range is the answer. They prefer a full suspension as well. The bike you are showing does not have front or rear suspension. I see the market as diverging. There are clearly two camps here.

I've never seen a direct to consumer Chinese e-bike follow the class 2 type e-bikes that all the big bicycle manufacturers produce. Strangely this one isn't much cheaper. Aesthetically it's got some charm for sure, and I do like some of the features like the built-in speaker and the interesting looking display. Although having it so slaved to your phone really does seem problematic as others have mentioned. Feels hard to justify that price with such a small motor and battery, and no throttle.
@GamersForTruth
@GamersForTruth 4 месяца назад
I would really like to get this bike. But for that price, it's such a weak motor. And I live in a very windy state, but I will say that it seems like it does help a little that this bike weighs less than most bikes. So I feel like a 500 watt motor would do fine, hopefully they eventually offer an upgrade option to get it with a 500 watt motor.

That bike is a joke. Can't turn on the bike without an app? I built a 1700w 52v 20 amp-hr BBSHD mid drive Specialized Allez Road bike that will do 40 mph for less money. 45 lbs. Less weight and less money for still a high power bike? I could build it lighter with less expensive BBS02 1200 watt motor and smaller capacity 15 amp-hr battery but I like the power and range. Superior bicycle components and superior power. The BBSHD is eminently programable with Bafang configuration software for specific power level per setting. E-bike consumers are woefully ignorant and bike manufacturers taking advantage of their ignorance. Marketing of apps as being 'positive' when in actual fact, they are an egregious and needless encumbrance. Like needing a phone app to turn on your TV.

Frankly, I won't get me an ebike before the age of 70. The one mtb that I still use for my weekly rideouts is from 93 but in an absolutely great condition, same as me. I always keep asking myself if EVs are really worth the hype. Hawt debate. Of course technology improves over time but all the electrical parts and fundamentals on how this technology works is pretty ol skool, imo. There is just less that is convincing to me.

I wouldn't want any bike I had to use an app for. Past that I don't want to have to hear what its doing. Im sure someone loves all of this but it ain't me, it ain't Im not a silly bike one. 😊
@christophercegelski8
@christophercegelski8 Месяц назад
Again, you don't have to use the app. In fact, if you like preload your destination, leave your phone at home and the built in screen will give you turn by turn directions, time to destination, etc...also, if the bike is stolen you can track it down from the app, and the bike has OTA updates capability and so much more. Everyone has different needs. For me, I'm not doing much of reading other than dirt and gravel and not climbing 12ft mountains anymore. Max range of 80 miles and 25 mph is more than enough for me. And I prefer not having a throttle. I bought this to get a little exercise, not commute to work.
@MumfordJim

I like the idea of lighter, but I do not want to many bells & whistles. It is a bicycle. I do like the ability to make setting adjustments in an app. Things that I do all the time I want to do on the display. This may be a little too much stuff. Propella makes some lighter e-bikes, the 9S PRO V2 look interesting at 42lbs. Lighter, but not so many bells and whistles. The KISS version of a light E-bike (Keep It Simple Stupid). Good to see you looking at lighter E-bikes.
@obnoxiouspriest
@obnoxiouspriest 4 месяца назад
Sounds like the kind of bike you want is what a lot of the major traditional bike manufacturers offer in their e-bike lineup. They're a lot more similar to this, with just enough motor and battery to do the job, and no throttle. They also tend to be a lot more expensive than the more powerful throttle equipped the chinese-made e-bikes that are everywhere. And without a throttle they can sell them without restriction anywhere in the world.
@MumfordJim
@MumfordJim 4 месяца назад
@@obnoxiouspriest The Propella 9S PRO V 2 is $1200, which is not high priced at all. You should look at it. Throttles are fine, I just personally never use one. I would a throttle if I needed it, most of my Ebikes have one. I just prefer lighter bikes because they are easier to put on my bike rack, lift up stairs and put on a repair stand. Many of the bells and whistles that the Carbon Pro had I didn’t feel I needed, just more to go wrong. Another example is Velotric. They make two similar bikes. The Velotric T1 with lots of bells and whistles. They make a simplified version the Velotric SL T1, both light weight. The simplified version T1 SL I would consider at $1099. The T1 I would stay way from $1799. “RUSS IS Right” has had major problems with the more complex T1 version.

That bike looks really cheap. They save money even on paint, using one spray can of flat black on the whole thing? Might as well make a backyard lawn ornament out of it, to make flowers around it more colorful. Lighter bikes are DANGEROUS, the rider makes the balance top heavy and that can cause the bike to slide out from under you in a turn. Hasn't anyone paid any attention to all the pro road cyclists in the European classics this year, who've crashed and now nurse broken collarbones, ribs, clavicles, and sternums because they've removed so much weight to get more speed?
@christophercegelski8
@christophercegelski8 Месяц назад
The bike handles extremely well, even at high speeds around tight corners. In fact, a heavier ebikes ( most are 20 plus lbs heavier) going down a hill at a fast rate, into a tight corner, or having to avoid a sudden obstacle would be more dangerous simply based on the laws of Physics F=M*A and much easier to lose control. Especially if the road was wet and skinnier tires were used. Now the Carbon Fiber bike will have a little less flex to the frame, but by weighing a good bit less and having both front and rear large hydraulic brakes, the bike would be able to slow down and stop much sooner than a heavier bike without hydraulic brakes.
@rayrussell6258
@rayrussell6258 Месяц назад
@@christophercegelski8 your attempt to make a point is totally backward. Weight holds the bike to the road. Lightening the bike only increases straight-ahead speed. If your idea is so good, why are all the best cyclists in European pro racing nursing so many injuries, because the bikes slid out from under them in curves and in racing maneuvers? You can't answer truthfully, I'm certain. I love how internet "experts" try to sound knowledgeable by quoting some formula!!! Watch the races, see the crashes and the ambulances. That is more important than "formulas"!!!
