+James Collington I been saying this for years now, this list that this magazines and some blogs published are done to cause controversy on purpose. Cus you know that comment section gotta be ON FIRE, plus everybody sharing the link to talk shit about the list too...thats all clicks for them.
The Cult of Opinion neither is slim shady or biggie based on your scale.... The only difference between Pac and the other rappers on the top ten is that he is better than everyone on the list and matter fact he was so talented he challeged half the people on the list.... You think meek mill took an L. Wen hit em up dropped you didn't hear from biggie for six months and wen u did it was on 112.
That girl is bothering the fuck outta me. Every time someone disagrees with her, she gotta look at the ONE person in the room that might agree with her. I cant stand people like that lol
+officialghetty "look at those ppl" I'm as white as the YT background yet I've reached millions of hip hop heads in the past 2-3 years and I also help run the official Clear Soul Forces page AND Reef The Lost Cauze's page. So although you are referring to their clothes, you should stop generalizing people.
Great music is timeless. Nobody is going to be quoting Rae Shremmurd " Flex zone " 10 years from now. Why are we always pushing real talent back, while we uplift diluted showmanship artist who are only destroying a culture that influences every aspect of the world. Then we wonder why on radio every song sounds exactly the same.
+PERRY DAEZIOUH No one will be quoting any songs from TPAB 10 years from now either its overrated and has no hit singles we can actually listen to and enjoy.
+Adam Johnson (RailRoad) Yup ppl act as if "Jump Around" isn't one of the longest lasting hip hop jams haha. The right party music can become a staple to an era.
My opinionated list: 1. Kendrick Lamar - TPAB 2. Drake - IYRTITL 3. Travis Scott - Rodeo 4. Dr. Dre - Compton 5. Asap Rocky - At Long Last Asap 6. Big Sean - Dark Sky Paradise 7. Ty Dolla Sign - Free TC 8. Future - DS2
"The Blacker the Berry" is overall a way deeper song than "Alright". It may not be as uplifting, but it is far more charged in emotion. The production is great it may not have 808s like "Alright" but it's very powerful and matches the subject matter perfectly. The Jamaican Hook is insane. The vocal effects are way more intricate. But no one wants to reward a song that couldpotentialy get people angry and riled up. I encourage people who disagree to go back and listen to it before commenting on this.
that song is so raw...he dropped a lot of knowledge but alright to was perfect almost the same subject matter but just right ...he got his point across. that song def did a good job on a mainstream level.
+Kenn Adams no matter what alright is fun to listen to. Kendrick makes his pain sound fun and look pretty. the rest of his album is too raw and real for a lot of people which is why they don't like it. all they care about is having fun no matter what even if real deep shit is being said smh at my generation
in my mind blacker the berry had more radio value than any other song because people could relate to it easily the best song on the album was in my opinion was you anit gotta lie .. it's a story with bars and emotions .. he put his heart and soul in that song teaching us a lesson . how can it better than that
Rae sremmurds album was 3rd while bryson tiller's was 43rd , travis scotts was 36th, hell drake's album was 9th 😂 now keep that in mind when yall listening to him explain why they were 3rd.
+Garth Andrews they did wale dirty af put him at 46th and i didnt even see j-cole they thought cus they put kendrick at number 1 it would save the list Nah Niggas
+John Berry that means absolutely nothing fam. RU-vid is just a vessel, just like your TV, or gaming system. It's for each station, programmer or developer to use that vessel to push what they represent. Those at complex are a false front pushing bullshit, skewing what hip hop means, really is and who it's really for. This is like them saying the best dish to represent good, healthy/nutritious black food is............. Fries. Why? Because they like fries and they're easier for them to access, consume and everyone enjoys them. Basically, they don't have a true link to the culture. So they throw out a bunch of bullshit (fries/rae shrenmerd) and then add hot sauce (TPAB)
Summertime '06 is 31???Fetty Wap is 40????Rodeo is 36??? But Jack U is 17.Documentary 2 is 14.Justin Bieber is 5?????!!!!!Adeles album hasn't even been out longer than a month and it's 4?!?!
Nothing but love for when Ebro goes off, especially when simply saying what we're all thinking, it's just his delivery classic! Love the whole team x 🇬🇧
Rosenberg gets me every time with his dope ass WWF tees. Plus, why does it look like they're going against their bizarros? Squad against squad. Damn this interview was intense
+C.A. Hall whats wrong is that they presented as if it was cohesive list judged by merit. "Here are the top Albums of the year" but no, turns out it was heavily subjective.
top 50 in all genres and the majority of the hiphop songs that they chose were what I call "ringtone"? music. Has no fkn meaning behind it but a catchy hook. Very underwhelming list
metroidM1A1 Well, judging by how you're coming at me... I'm sure that ringtone music is the only thing your little ass brain can handle. Btw, I wasnt saying that the song has to be "conscious" in order to be hot, but you wouldn't understand.
yea it's trash that's why it's cosigned by Kendricks #1 guy, Kanye, fucking Mos Def, fucking Rod Stewart. they just hopped on cuz its trash i go back and forth with it between #2 and #3 with tetsuo & youth, think it's waaaay slept on
To Pimp A Butterfly is a perfect 10 album to those who love hip hop Rae Sremmurd cannot compare and shouldn't be only 2 spots under TPAB Even IYRTITL is an overall better album then the Rae Sremmurd album P.S. Idk what the Rae Sremmurd album is even called
Complex went from some real Hip-Hoppers to some reeeeeal hype-beast hipsters in the past couple of years. The article that dissed Talib Kweli and Lupe Fiasco was a step too far, I like their youtube channel but I do not vibe with their writers at all.
Honestly this is the best Hot 97 interview of the year . I love when Ebro and Rosenberg get into a debate mode. Complex literally lost all their credibility in Hip Hop they weren't even clear and confident with the way they were defending their placement of all the albums they listed
Most definately, them dudes more hipster than me and it seems that their status went to their heads. They mad buggin thinking just because they picked some trap shot that it's gonna make them seem different and against the grain, but if the wanted to do that they should've at least said Travi$ Scott that shit was ignorant but artsy.
The funny thing about music debates is that you are trying to force someone to like what YOU like, no real factual basis behind it you just feel that they have to like it because you liked it so much and you feel that they're crazy if they think otherwise lol
+youngspencee in terms of songs yeah, but an album? I would disagree. They pointed flaws in their arguments because it was heavily subjective, instead of "TOP 50 albums of the year" they should of said "Complex's favorite albums". Hell a internet vote would of been a lot closer to a top 10 then their list. I liked how Ebro and the other dude went against their own subjectivity to show Complex's bias.
C.A. Hall well it should be like reading poetry. Lyrics should come first then the sound. I'm not saying everyone should experience music objectively, no shit. But when one is creating a list they should take many factors into account and not what they like unless it was displayed that way. They should of just gone with "Complex's favorite albums 2015". They should of made it as objective as possible. Also you're favorite artist doesn't have to be the best. I believe that is what separates a true fan from a stan.
So this was a discussion of Top 50 Songs and albums of 2015, ok..so the album or song had to come out in 2015 in order to make the list? I didn't hear not one person mention J.Cole, even though his album came out in Dec 2014 damn near 2015..his singles were released in 2015 "Apparently" "No Role Modelz", "Wet Dreams" like c'mon ..and they got a J.Cole poster right above Rosenberg head..and no one mentioned him. I like these artists too but They stay dickriding Kendrick & Drake, they never mention J.Cole in interviews when they talk about hip hop, & why did they put "Serve The Base" on the list..tf..that shit was random, Out of all the songs on Dirty Sprite? Lmao..Ebro was right it was a playlist those fools made up that they liked..smh that list was a joke..
@Zayah yeah its a shame J. cole released a classic at the end of 2014 and 2014 was not a great year for music as a whole..2014 FHD is pretty much a 2015 album but yeah I feel he shouldve released it a little earlier..
Their argument is that every song is a banger for Rae sremmurd but every song drakes if you're reading this it's too late is an actual banger, each song made it on the billboards 100, rae's didn't...yet they rank it lower drake than rae...
+groalerable he's def not trash he bounced back after this album he disappointed me on Hall of Fame....I felt like Detroit should've been his official album instead of a mixtape but Dark Sky Paradise has to be his best work next to Detroit
BaneOPS5 I'm still pissed off because how can you put it on number 17 when rae fuckin sremmurd is number 3? The people behind these lists are seriously fucking dumb as fuck
Freakwensie Beats Tell me these dudes don't remind you of the guys that got beat up in gym class....I'm not racist or prejudice but if you look like you'd be uncomfortable in a hood club or around drugs and men raising their voices I disqualify you from judging Hip Hop.
The way she feels about Vince Stapples is how I feel too but also about Earl Sweatshirt. If he manages to not fuck up or leave music, he will drop one day, an album so incredible. I mean that first line off of "Hive" is him admitting it! "Promise Heron I'll put my fist up after I get my dick sucked Quick buck, maybe a gold chain." is him saying one day he'll become a rapper that talks about important stuff instead of just being a genius at making metaphors and rhymes and double entendres. But they both love working together and say they bring the best out of each other. They always wanna go back and try again and respect each other and call each other better than themselves. Those 2 are the ones I really wanna see in 5-10 years.
Knowing Complex, probably will be even though views is just sooooo whack as a whole piece. Maybe 2 or 3 songs are aight but Drake stans stay riding his dick hard.
dude every song on views is fire. like 4 songs are bangers you can listen to at any time... Drake is known for hitting everyone on an emotional level. If you don't like that shit its just because you cannot relate! #DrakeKnows
I love Ebro & his outspokenness. I think that he feels like Rap/Hip-hop is supposed to be powerful and have impact with lyrics, storytelling and etc like Pac, Nas, BIG, & etc did in their time & not just a fire instrumental with mediocre, preschool rhymes like damn near every rap/hip-hop song these days have or these false personas and lives these rappers live. I feel the exact same way. It's pretty pathetic how bad hip hop has become. And nowadays it's like real hip hop artists with all of the elements of a great mc, get overlooked because it's cool to only play & listen to these "turn up" artists. Big KRIT is probably one of the most prolific & lyrical rapper's in hip hop culture in general but I NEVER hear any of his songs being played on airways. Same with Joey Badass, Vince Staples, Ab Soul, Wale.. The artists with a MESSAGE. It seems like people of this generation only pay attention to an artist if: They have a hot song or if it's cool to like them (Bandwagon) It's embarrassing.
Rosenberg's statement basically went "I don't want TPABF on every album, but maybe a story OR SOMETHING other then random shit said on the entire album" lol.
Nobody mentioned Joey Badass My top 10 though 1. To Pimp A Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar 2. B4.DA.$$ - Joey Badass 3. Rodeo - Travis Scott 4. Tetsuo & Youth - Lupe Fiasco 5. At. Long. Last. A$AP - Asap Rocky 6. T R A P S O U L - Bryson Tiller 7. Surf - Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment 8. Darkest Before Dawn - Pusha T 9. Summertime '06 - Vince Staples 10. If You're Reading This It's Too Late - Drake
