The problem isn't that the concept of love is gone, it's just that the english language doesn't have the words for it. Language shapes culture. If the language lacks proper words to express something, the culture loses touch with the concept. The word you're talking about still exists in Greek, it's called "agape". In English it translates to "love", but in Greek we have a multitude of other words to define the other things that "love" seems to have gobbled up in the English language. When we speak of agape, we speak of what you're talking about, specifically.

@Ricdriquez Wilson Essentially. Agape is Charitable love. I think this interpretation is very fitting when talking about Echidna because the opposite of Greed is Charity. Greed is the sin and Charity is the heavenly virtue. When Echidna laments the fading nature of Love, she is inherently misunderstanding Love at its core. Charity is opposite to her nature, so she cannot understand the fundamental principle of Agape. For her, Love is to use and be used until there is nothing left. But Agape is neverending because its source is God Himself; it is infinite. It cannot fade, it cannot be spent, it is everlasting.

@Ricdriquez Wilson I'm pretty sure from the way Tappei wrote the chapter "Reason to Believe" he also read about the concept of Agape because one thing that is integral to understanding Agape is that it is integral to God's character. God doesn't have a reason to "love" us, He loves us because He loves us. Asking "why"? Is missing the point. Agape is freely given, it expects nothing in return, it has no motivation, it has no "why". It is instilled in us through God's nature and through Him we love each other. When Emilia asks Subaru over and over again: "Why?", "Why are you saying all these things?", "Why do you love me?". The only answer Subaru can give is that he loves her. He loves her because he loves her. That is all. It's so simple, yet so hard to grasp. She can ask him a thousand times and the answer will always be the same. That is why I think Echidna posits this question at the end of the arc. Why must love fade? Because your concept of love isn't love Echidna. Agape is love, and you'll never understand it.

They wouldn't lose it, but maybe that would purify it. Due to the nature of the sin, they're not supposed to be satisfied, so if it were to happen, they'd all act like completely different people
