Welcome back to Echo Ekoji with Joe Gotchy and Andrea Chapman. We’re excited to kick off the second season of the podcast and are looking forward to posting programs at regular intervals during 2024 and beyond.
Ekoji Buddhist Temple is located at 6500 Lakehaven Lane in Fairfax Station, Virginia. We have regular in-person and streaming Sunday services and Wednesday Zoom services led by Reverend Kurt Rye as well as seminars, book and movie discussions, meditation meetings, and special events like our annual Obon Summer Festival. You can find additional information at the temple’s website, www.ekoji.org
Ekoji Buddhist Temple is affiliated with the Buddhist Churches of America community that includes more than 60 temples located across the United States. Like all BCA temples, Ekoji is a Jodo Shinshu temple. Shin Buddhism is a non-monastic tradition founded by Shinran Shonin who lived between 1173-1263. Our main practice is listening to the Dharma or the teachings. The tradition is a family-friendly path that all ages can participate in together. What’s more, we welcome everybody as they are.
Today we are privileged to have Truc Vo, an Ekoji Sangha member and minister's assistant, with us.

(I am a link in Amida Buddha's golden chain of love that stretches around the world. I must keep my link bright and strong. I will try to be kind and gentle to every living thing, and protect all who are weaker than myself. I will try to think pure and beautiful thoughts, to say pure and beautiful words, and to do pure and beautiful deeds, knowing that on what I do now depends my happiness and misery. May every link in Amida Buddha's golden chain of love become bright and strong, and may we all attain Perfect Peace." (Presented by Seattle Buddhist Sunday School...what is today Dharma School....sometime in the late 1950s to the woman who is related to me by marriage.)
