She has some of the powers of x men Forge with her knack for tech breaking things down and making something new and useful also he was also an Indian shaman who was an amputee
the series was frontloaded with the best episode being the first. eps 2,3,4 were filler. episode 5 could have been cut down to 10 minutes. as a whole it was inconsequential apart from the laying of hands thing she did on Kingpin at the end. wasted a morning watching this rubbish
I’m Choctaw and the interpretation of Natives in this series is the best I’ve seen. The Chafa is the number one in the Choctaw language and is indeed the first woman of the Choctaw peoples name. The historical accuracy gives me pride. The Lighthorsemen weren’t created just for the comics but it’s an actual police force that’s still alive today. Almost every tribe in Oklahoma has Lighthorse police officers who deal with Native affairs along with the tribal governments that reside in Oklahoma
As a member of the Choctaw Nation, absolutely stoked to see representation of our language and culture on screen. Thank you for a great review and for watching the show. The wood pecker, Biskinik, in Choctaw lore is a messenger or omen. Our tribe's newspaper is called the Biskinik after the messenger bird. The Choctaw Nation had staff members that were heavily involved with the lore and design. A Choctaw artist, Steven Paul Judd, was on the writing and story editing team. Though it wasn't the best Marvel product, it was still a huge success for Choctaw Nation and indigenous representation. I'm glad we got to see and appreciate the hard work of the studio unlike Batgirl.
I actually loved the flashbacks and storytelling. And I really liked this little vignette series. I think it'll be a good path for Disney/Marvel to use for minor/mid characters, that way the main films/tv shows aren't bogged down by too much exposition and forced backstory. And also, that's one of the biggest critiques I feel like. Either they're too bogged down by exposition, or they didn't go in depth enough for the comic book fans and are dumbing it down for broad audiences. This structure, I feel, is a good remedy for alot of those arguments/critiques And I loved that they dropped all the episodes at once, cause I feel like it would've been a Lot harder to get into/stay interested if it were just 1 episode a week.
I think it was a really good character study, and I liked watching her reconnect with family, and the tension of resolving her childhood trauma and the tension in her relationship with Fisk. Fisk felt like a manifestation of her demons from childhood (hurt, rage), and it was clever how they dovetailed his background story into this show to explain that and also keep him really three dimensional. Maya in the comics was fine, but I enjoyed this version more - rooting her more in (what seemed like) a more authentic portrayal of her cultural lineage, instead of just someone with cool powers. But then on top of that, the fight scenes with Daredevil and in the skating rink were great!
Yes I totally agree. Sorry but the review by @heavyspoilers of this with his opinions based on lack of knowledge (or something) of indigenous people and assuming we have seen daredevil... Is not very helpful or interesting. Never was into daredevil, so stop the comparables with him. You want a woman in skintight suits, you have black widow.
I can’t decide whether it’s a shame Echo lost an episode, or that maybe Marvel tightened up the story more efficiently. Definitely a good idea to drop all at once because it might’ve shed viewers earlier if you had to wait a week. I actually enjoyed it, in the top half of Marvel D+ shows IMO
This is one of my favorite shows that they have put out so far, I love how it revolved around her Chocktaw heritage and from that she pulled through against Kingpin’s empire
Paul, I love your stuff and breakdowns, but sometimes you can be over the top. I agree that ep one was a bit too much of a repeat of what we already saw, but I really enjoyed the remaining and getting to know Maya and her family and ancestors. The ending wasn't a super crescendo, but it was satisfying enough to set the stage for the next Echo or Kingpin chapter. I mean everything can't be a super blockbuster. And it doesn't need to be to entertain. Anyways, as always thanks for your insights and working hard to stay abreast of what's going on in the Scifi and Marvel worlds. You're one of my main go-to's and I appreciate it. 👍
Also, when Marvel writes a show like a big movie instead of having strong arcs in each episode, I think they SHOULD release the episodes all at once. When they don’t, people have complained about uneven pacing. I think they released all the episodes here as a course correction based on the overwhelming amount of similar feedback, rather than a signal that they didn’t have faith in the show, and it was the right move
Nah for sure it was released because they didn’t have faith. Don’t forget that the plan with the shows was to bridge dead air between movies with more content. If they released Loki all at once it would be nice for us, but business wise it would be bad since ppl will talk about it for a week and move on.
@@thephilosopher7173it would have been great for Disney's business because all of their shows lose viewers from week to week and sometimes bounce back for the finale. A full drop would just be bad for content creators because they'd have leas content to leech.
Listen it wasn’t bad. It was a bit contrived and the TVMA rating was clearly used as a promotional strategy (along with Daredevil) because there were only like 2 episodes that even came close to that rating. That said, I did enjoy much of it despite only getting Daredevil for 2 minutes in episode 1. I did appreciate all the Chactaw related stuff and I felt like the episodes all flowed pretty well, the music choices were great, and THE BEST PART of the series was the reveal in the finale when Biscuit turned his grandmas mail truck into a monster truck with parts from the junkyard where we thought he was just fixing the damage. It was a great Marvel comedic moment!
I actually really enjoyed this series when I wasn’t expecting much from it. It reminded me of the What If.. episode with Kahhori which I also really enjoyed. It seems like they’re doing a great deal of research to pay the proper respect to these tribes and I love it. The way they integrate their culture into the story telling is awesome. Would love another season of Echo 🫶🏽
I thought the show was way better than Paul did, and no, I'm not Native American. Both my parents passed away in the past 3 years. It hits hard that she misses her mother, and her connection to her mother from beyond the grave. After my mother passed away, I had a lot of dreams I was seeing her again and talking to her. I would sometimes see my Dad after he passed, butbhe was his younger self that I remember when I was growing up. I sometimes wear a shirt with the Jamaican flag on it to hold on to my ancestors. The motorcycle helmet Echo wears is the exact same one I have. I started riding a motorcycle after my Mom passed away. I started running the risk in away to tempt fate, since I miss my Mom so much I can't live without her. In a way I'm not just tempting fate, I'm giving fate the finger since it took my parents. I think you may have missed a detail. I'm pretty sure the motorcycle Echo rides is an "Indian" . I know its too on the nose , but it looks close.
Yeah , its the same make motorcycle from Xmen Origins Wolverine . What Logan loosely called an "Indian" motorcycle is a Royal Enfield, a motorcycle brand made in India. It must be an old-timey term for it. Maya's bike is a modified Royal Enfield GT650.
@DonaldTrumpsMassiveBalls annddd how long has lazy writing been the past few years? I didn’t say it was a smart idea, it was a matter of speaking. Lol.
Wild. I loved that they did a recap episode for the first one. After Hawkeye nurfed Kingpin I felt like this helped recalibrate her story using a combination of what we've seen and what we haven't. I usually agree with you but I gotta go in a different direction overall with this spotlight/series. I thoroughly enjoyed it and found myself in tears at least 3 times. I didn't know or care about the making of issues but for what we got I think it was beyond solid. But to each their own.
You’re wrong. Best show they’ve done in a while. It wasn’t perfect but it was very good… not mediocre. The cultural aspects make the character much stronger. The lack of knowledge in the symbolism isn’t your fault and the storytelling wasn’t as smooth, but the native aspect was helped a lot by What If. It was stretched a bit but not to the level of all the other plus shows. I’d love to see a sequel or the character extended into other stories for sure.
The show was a mess, it felt like a documentary about the Choctaw, focusing on the boring story about Echo, with a little bit of Kingpin sparkled on top, the grittiness (although far and few) is a welcome addition. The ending fight was a total joke. Def a 6/10, not a single memorable moment and will probably forget all about it in a couple weeks.
Almost everything u typed was factual incorrect and ur opinions are shit and proly match ur tastes...I meant to say I agree to disagree tho @@matiascugno6977
I liked the series a lot. Chula’s character was complex. Abandoning Maya was wrong but sometimes things so horrible happen that we are not equipped to deal with. She clearly felt remorse and loved Maya greatly. A nice spotlight of generational trauma both in Maya and Fisk. I liked learning about the Choctaw people and the action sequences were cool. I think the final confrontation w Fisk was rushed because how did Kingpin even escape and the goons in the vans weren’t able to get out after Biscuits drove over the van? I’d give the series a 7/10
I think Echo was pretty solide. It wasn't unique, but it was well executed. Alaqua Cox was fantastic and the writers gave her a fine material to work with. The ending was a bit rushed, maybe six episodes would have been better, but any more would have just dragged out the story. I also like, that it really is Mayas story in that sense, that Kingpin was in just 3 episodes and Daredevil just showed up once (in contrast to eg She Hulk). All in all I really enjoyed it.
Adult doesn’t just mean gore and blood. It means mature themes as in dealing with childhood trauma (Fisk) and light on goofy shit. The fact that it ended with Fisk being partially healed and her calling him uncle is above the heads of teen boys hoping for Deadpool/the Boys type entertainment.
You can't complain about mainstream audiences not willing to read subtitles but to expect them to know what happened in Hawkeye by heart. I watched Hawkeye and was still happy for the flashbacks to tell me the details of what I saw 2 years ago. I enjoyed Echo quite a bit, though you really notice they ran out of money in the final 2 episodes. Also it really didn't help that they dumped all at once.
personally I really liked this show, what really made this show for me, she was an amazing character, I liked how they weren't afraid of showing her making very rash decisions, I also loved the stuff they did with kingpin, I was not expecting them to take the character in that direction. Although, the pacing and her weird mystical powers, brought it down, although, the good stuff outweight the bad, I also appreciate how this show felt more unique and different than other mcu projects that lately feel to similar
I honestly really enjoyed the show. Smashed it out in one sitting. It was just nice to watch marvel content that doesn’t have world ending stakes. Wasn’t perfect, but I personally related very heavily with Maya’s internal struggle. And I also really liked her suit, but I do agree that they should have gone with the concept art from Hawkeye. Each to their own tho
I wasn't going to watch it but did so anyway since all of the episodes were available. I really enjoyed it! It was very well done! I loved the Choctaw content and the echo of the ancestors through her.
I enjoyed the series and its mature nature. The native abilities from her maternal Choctaw ancestors were cool, reminding me of the Bene Gesserit. Appreciate the change in light of Taskmaster already being introduced. I would have liked 6 episodes and seen more of the story especially since episode 1 had parts of Hawkeye in it. How bad did they think that 6th episode was to completely cut it out (instead of just editing out a return to New York).
i got kingpin, i got daredevil, i got set-up for DD, action was good, short and to the point season plus i wasn't expecting much so i have to give this show a thumbs up. cultural visuals were all great too.
To me this show did fall under the umbrella of Marvel not hiring showrunners and doing show bibles. This doesn’t diminish the potential for Daredevil. Especially given the fact that Feige fired the original writers and directors
I'm not sure feige even hv power anymore, Blackrock is the one pushing this nonsense agenda, I think feige should quit bc he don't hv full control anymore and he is tarnishing the legendary infinity saga he built by continuing to take part in these mamas fars
I just completed the series, and I'll just say it's nice to have these more grounded shows that don't rely on overly gratuitous CGI battles and pointless cameo of the weeks. I really hope people give this series a try as it's a beautiful story about how we are made up by echos of our ancestors before us. And while I'm at it, a good number of actors in this series was in another series based on native American peoples called Reservation Dogs on FX. DEFINITELY give that series a try.
The first episode was a nice set up for the show, the loving family she was born into vs the violence she was raised into and the brutal fighter she became. The episode runtime and story pacing made it a really easy binge though and I was able to finish it in one night and after I finished it, it felt like the quality and vibe hearkened back to it's Netflix Marvel era connection roots at it's best. The MA rating is for the violence and cursing, that's how nitpicky American tv ratings are lol. There were interesting themes going on with the generational power vs generational trauma, including ones from uncle/father figure Kingpin. Also interesting how all of Maya's extended family learned sign and continued to use it in their lives even when they haven't seen Maya in 2 decades and was ready to speak with her as soon as she reappears. The Chocktaw representation seemed really well done, but I'll leave that to actual people they're representing to speak on that. The reactions that I've seen so far seem really positive though so yays! I hope this kind of cultural respect is a positive lesson that Marvel Studios that continues with. The cohesiveness of the writing overall is good and I feel it's one of the better Disney+ Marvel series.
It comes across really strange hearing claims of Indigenous creatives, who were influenced in legitimate ways by the source material and took things in a different direction for the screen, be called "disrespectful". Marvel fans are smart enough to handle subtitles, deaf leads, and nuanced characters and storytelling - even when weaving in crime syndicates and Daredevil. The show is like a cross between Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Reservation Dogs. Who knew it's a combo I needed. 😂
I like that there is great Native American actors here.. My faves are Graham Green and Tantoo Cardinal. I saw there is also a Braydee Cardinal. Any relations to Tantoo. Someone mentioned that legend of Chafa was true. Cool! So I guess the rest of Choctaw traditions are true, too. I like cameos of Daredevil and Hawkeye. Fisk is complicated as well as Echo.I like that Biscuit is a funny character who names his dog, Billy Jack. If I remember correctly, Billy Jack was adopted by Hopi in his movies.
I'm genuinely surprised to hear the amount of gripes you had with this show, ngl, I really enjoyed this show... unexpectedly so! I thought it was decently better than a good amount of the Disney+ shows! I had no issues whatsoever with the time jumps and all that, I really didn't think it affected the show all that much for me at all, I certainly didn't find it confusing whatsoever! No mention of the ice rink fight scene?? I thought that was awesome! Also, Paul... stop only liking the comments that agree with you 😉
LOVED the show but wish there was more than one scene of daredevil but he would have been so out of place in the rest of the season. The finale had me in tears
I watched this with my mom and it was fun to see her reaction she loved the first episode called it the best recap she ever seen and didn't know about the history of the character. Also her people coming from the tesseract world is so dope.
Loved the show! Love the caracter! Cannot wait to see her pop up in other projects. Really happy ot hear that the historic and cultural representation is accurate and not a some made up version of “what could be”. It really gives weight to the story and her background and her powers. I think Maya is my favourite new character the MCU has introduced.
You confuse representation with authenticity. This had the latter, dragging the former in its wake, which is apparently all you can see. My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this, and was emotionally engaged (whereas I wasn’t on Secret Invasion). As to complaints about lack of fidelity to the source material, dude, NOTHING has been that faithful so complaining now is pretty arbitrary if not bordering on being petty.
*I hope they handle the street level Heroes & firstly I need a faceoff between Kingpin & Spidey & simultaneously Spidey & Daredevil in one frame as Heroes*
Not knowing anything about the comic book character I went into this blind and loved it. I saw all the thumbnails about poor reviews and thankfully ignored them until I'd watched it myself. I do do sometimes think that YT "reviewers" are so nailed to the cross of bashing Marvel (I know they've deserved it at times) that they miss the point.
*Considering the fact that* the creators couldn’t say anything special about the character in promotion of the show.. I think it speaks volumes about the actual quality of the MCU shows and movies now.
This show it’s better than Secret invasion for sure but their is a but I agree wit what ya said on Twitter I feel like the MA was used a marketing gimmick but honestly I feel they didn’t go further like them Netflix shows did! Yes the roller skating rink fight was cool yes I have a message from the kingpin with the silencer or kingpin beating that ice cream vendor but I felt it could’ve been way way more darker as a whole. Overall tho at least the defenders verse is canon but even if it’s canon Daredevil born again next yr needs to go Harder than echo and b on tune wit that Netflix show wit action scenes feel tone etc! I’m not trying to say echo needs to b invincible or the boys or anime jujutsu kaisen or something I just want the Ma rating to mean something! Also another gripe which bugged me abit why did Daredevil fight Maya and then just disappeared idk didn’t make sense
I think it was fantastic! I didn't know of this story. I loved Daredevil and I think this is a great way to introduce Kingpin without doing another origin
I just want to say bringing on MT was a big brain move. I followed him from NR to here and I love your videos! Wish I was watching you the whole time, but unfortunately I hadn’t been exposed to you until you hired him. Great channel!
This show had so much potential. Unfortunately, it was an unorganized mess. I can forgive a lot, but if a show makes you continuous ask “what…did I miss something?” it’s something you can’t overlook.
I’m so happy I completely disagree with every critique this guy gave 😅 Echo was the best recapping I’ve seen in the MCU and I love Maya’s character this show is so goood from start to finish
I have always had a hard time with Kingpin as a Spider-Man villain. I just can’t rectify that in my mind. Fisk is very strong but still just a human. Spider-Man is one of the strongest superheroes in the Marvel universe. He’s also extremely quick. He would destroy Kingpin in a fight realistically.
what makes kingpin dangerous is that he has powerful army by controlling new york. that is too much for even spiderman to handle. and even though kingpin does not have powers, he is stronger than average human and can easily recover from injuries that would immobilize normal people. Also Spiderman rogue gallery is divided into three types: animals like Lizard and Doctor Octopus, horror types like Green Goblin and Morbius, and gang members like Kingpin and Mr. Negative.
Kingpin is a human but he’s literally just built different.. he spent time in Japan in the comics - and even in the games it’s mentioned “he spent time with Sumo wrestlers in Japan” by his henchmen - he’s literally spent time developing his power.
@@theveyashe is one of the strongest, he just holds back a lot, but he is one of the few street level people that can hang with the avengers. Thats why it’s nice they are doing this again, we lost the magic of truly showing how insane it is to live in a universe where thor exists. Echo being so serious will make the inevitable meeting between the wisecracking colorful spider-man and the Netflix characters a lot more fun
I really loved the show overall! I just think they pulled some punches on the ending. Most of the show had that grit that I liked then it turned into a Disney movie at the end. Still liked it though. Would love to see more Echo!
Gotta disagree strongly with Paul here. And that rarely happens. I thought this was really interesting, especially off the back of What If. I appreciated seeing another look into Indigenous American culture, with accuracy. We actually got a full character arch that made sense and was complete. Like, we didn't have another ultra CGI fightfest. It was grounded. It was actual storytelling. I do think we got something different because we took a whole different cultural perspective on things. I was gonna be more aggravated if we saw another same power vs same power battle at the end. And what we got was an ending that was about trauma healing. Like, we complain so much about Marvel doing the same thing over and over again, and then we get something different and it's not good enough. I was ok with the few powers we got, but it didn't dominate the show because the moral was supposed to be about atonement, rectification, and dealing with trauma. Something we saw an aspect of in Moon Knight, but that was dealing with mental illness more than family trauma. Especially when you're from a culture that is so centralized around family, these stories definitely hold more weight. Great show and the woman wasn't a Mary Sue in this. She had to earn her spot and grew. No pandering just great storytelling.
I was hoping it would be grounded like Daredevil but unfortunately after the very first 10 seconds I was proven wrong. I thought I had clicked the wrong series by accident and had to double check what I was watching which did no favours for the emersion and got it off to a bad start before they had even started. Every time an Echo from the past scene started I was instantly put off and was dismissive of what it was going to show. Strangely this actually turned out to be a benefit, as what those scenes did show were awful. I'm amazed how something with so much budget, time, potential scope and universe borrowing that was available to them that they only managed to only produce 5 episodes. Of these 1 was a re-cap (which was by far the best episode - maybe a 6.5 to a 7 compared to the rest being a 3) and somehow duration wise 2 felt like filler episodes. With the last episode feeling like it was a repeat of the previous one. I can't remember pressing the fast forward button so much on any Marvel project and I've seen The Marvels and Secret Invasion. There was absolutely no need to shoe horn Native American culture into the series and the way they so actually did a massive disservice to the character. Her being self made, self defining, over coming disability, grinding a life within the crime world in New York; all this and her decisions meant nothing. The season was resolved not by the character or anything that she had previously done or experienced but purely the shear fact she was of Native American ancestry. I realise the Disney and Hollywood think using a minority card will instantly give them some kind of "DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY!" and produce a good result but this is another example of the complete opposite happening. Race, sex, gender, species doesn't matter, good characters and story matters; this had neither.
Loved the show. It was a great bindge. Not as great fight choreography as the first season of daredevil but it was still better than most tv show fight scenes, style wise. Every fight scene did end before it ever got gritty so they were a bit of a tease. Loved seeing so many actors from Reservation Dogs! Loved seeing the Native American spirituality depicted. A lot of unique storytelling going on in a time where everything is a reboot. She’s a killer, she’s deaf, she’s First Nation, she’s missing a foot, she’s going from villain to hero, her ancestors are part of her story. What a refreshing story to watch. Not saying it was cinematic perfection but I loved watching it. No regrets.
I disagree with you. I believe this series paid great homage to the Choctaw Nation and even used those old timey, silent film, western tropes to display a marvel character from an indigenous background in a way the masses could relate to. I also respect the fact that they used a lot of American sign language. I believe these concepts alone allowed for newer audiences, who haven't been able to experience marvel movies like the masses have, to enjoy something new created for them.
I love Vincent D'Onofrio's Kingpin so much, I keep finding myself sympathizing with the guy until he suddenly loses it and starts murdering people ... He is by far (no disrespect to Thanos) the most complex and interesting villain in the MCU and I look forward to seeing where they take him now. By the way, [SPOILERS AHEAD] the way I understood the end of the final fight with Maya was that at a moment when she could have finished him off, Maya instead chose to try to "heal" his heart and his mind with her mother's healing ability. I thought it was a beautiful moment - showing she isn't consumed by rage or hate any more and that she's tapping into her ancestors' powers in a way that's driven by mercy. That moment where Fisk's completely stunned and yells "What did you do?" - I understood that to be him in absolute shock because Maya had taken away the pain and rage in HIS mind, and suddenly he finds himself feeling a way he's probably never felt before in his life. Obviously, because it's Kingpin, he's not staying that way. But I think it would be cool if this was kind of a "road to Damascus" moment for him, and when he then calls together the heads of the families and decides to run for mayor, he's doing this in a genuine attempt to make things better. But obviously, because it's Fisk, this will go sideways and the "ill-intent" will rear its head in him again. Whatever the writers do now, I hope they show that Maya's mercy towards Fisk has some real consequences and this confrontation doesn't just get swept under the rug and forgotten.
People complaining about there wasn't enough New York-based Daredevil, in a show not titled "Daredevil", set in a place 1,424 miles away from Hell's Kitchen, where he had literally no business going, is weird af. Some of y'all set the most unrealistic expectations for, both these shows and for yourselves.
This is going to be a great character for the MCU. Really enjoyed this series, and felt short. Can't wait for her return. Kingpin not sure about the Hawaiian shirt to this interpretation. What happened to him between end of Daredevil to now? Where is Vanessa?
I just don’t see how you developed your take on this show. This is the strongest show from Marvel in a long time. Yes, episode one reuses footage from Hawkeye but there’s also a lot of original stuff that stitches everything together to show how Echo got to where she is when the story starts. The choreography was *great*. And the whole show was pretty brutal, again I don’t know how you could miss how brutal it was compared to earlier shows. Also the Native American representation and the way they worked with the tribe to ensure the content was accurate and handled respectfully. It’s a breath of fresh air. I really have to give a thumbs-down on this video, very disappointed.
This show slapped!!! It had me tearing up on a couple of moments and felt like a real homestead marvel 5 part comic. You people are tripping over the fact that marvel is trying to appease a way larger demographic than ever. This was a "W" for the women in a right way. Not too overly pushing the "anything you can do" just showcasing a woman's strength and importance in that time frame. Home run for Marvel on this one
Personally I thought Kingpin was really well developed in that he can love. Seeing him be all vulnerable was weird but we've got glimpses of it. Dude was having the wedding of the century until Bullseye showed up. (In my head Maya and her father were in attendance, but clearly Maya had not joined up yet). I really want to see what happened during the Snap on the street level. I knew Echo wouldn't show it but seeing how he status quo shifted from Netflix Marvel to this would do wonders for why characters are in the positions they are. Like i wonder if Luke Cage is one of those leaders he's calling to stabilize whatever's happening in New York, probably attributed to Peter becoming street level? Or did he get snapped? If so you know Luke fought it off a good while cause of his powers. Dude is maxed out upgraded on stamina and HP. The ending was kind of disappointing. But she used healing instead of pain to beat him. I get it. I don't like it. But i get it. Overwhelming his ass with love was nice though, it wasn't what he did but why he did it. That she thought she saw originally. Finally coming out. I guess..... Either way Vincent killed it. I only understood it by his acting of it. But if they took away his ruthlessness I'm really gonna be pissed. If he's less over grown man-child that crushed one of his more loyal lieutenants heads with a car cause he ruined a date. And more calculated let's find out who everyone is and force them to make the world i want for the people i love. With the occasional burst of unrestrained violence when they finally approach him. I can get jiggy with it. Can we please get Alistair Smythe though as his other adopted child he betrayed? Him having an open heart to disabled children while his mortal enemy is also disabled is a beautiful dichotomy I need explored. I mean the serum is already there. He could be behind She-Hulk since they rewrote it to intentionally feature Matt. Like that would be so meta. And perfectly in character. Since he's clearly the person behind Sharon. If they can stick the landing with this mayor thing. He has to win in Born Again now... Armor Wars is the perfect vehicle for the Smythe's. Or just imply Spencer came and went by then. Victim of the Ronin or something along those lines. They honestly made him more interesting by showing he can truly love others originally for unselfish reasons. But corrupted it cause the only love he knows is that of violence. Maybe it's my upbringing but how overwhelming reliving that specific moment would be is pretty accurate. How he could still be angry in that moment shows how mentally he's a beast as well. Didn't like it but understand it. They just have to do more with that now. ALISTAIR! ALISTAIR!
I was fr hooked at first but it genuinely lost me when it started introducing all the powers, and that final fight was so flat. I honestly wasn’t expecting much, but i genuinely hope Marvel gets them selves back together and lock in in terms of a direction, and valuing Quality over quantity.
@@GOONIETONY I fr loved all the characters, especially the family members and the show made me far more interested in Echo’s character regardless of how “Eh” the show was.
Both Kingpin appearances in the MCU have ruined the character almost beyond repair. I thought the character was great even in this bad of a show he was better than his appearance in Hawkeye until that rushed absolutely horrible finale. As a writer you're supposed to leaves characters better off than when you found or at least as good not diminish or destroy them. 🤦
@@ManWiThOutFEAR1982 it be one thing if no one had ever done him right but they had the Netflix show that people liked…and still couldn’t figure out what to do with him…I’m tired of them ruining characters like kingpin and hulk 😡
I really liked this series, I’m not a comic reader so I have nothing to compare it to except what we got in Hawkeye and I loved where they took hers and Kingpin’s characters 🥰 I literally screamed YASSSS when Daredevil popped up in episode 1 ! Would have LOVED to have seen more of him obviously in this but I’ll take what I can get lol ❤ I like how we can all have different perspectives of something and come here and discuss it, for the most part, without any ill will or being childish and rude 💜 Thank you for your breakdown and your point of view, I really love hearing other people’s perspectives and opinions…. Great episode !
I disagree with your commentary on ECHO I enjoyed it. Sometimes, I feel that ppl compare the comics against live version. There were good points you had. I loved it, it did what it needed. The TV MA wasn't necessary, but the story was good, and reading the subtitles wasn't bad it kept me engaged which can be hard when all you are looking for is comparable to the source material I loved how they crafted a story that capture the generations of ECHOS ancestors so I disagree with your review to a point the show did what it needed to and with the way Disney be hitting my pockets I felt all episodes were needed.. lol.. thanks Paul you did ok. But ECHO was a good watch.
Noticed the hammer Kingpin says he kept from when he killed his dad is actually different from the one in Daredevil. The one used in Daredevil is a Claw Hammer, the one shown in Echo is a Ball-Pein Hammer. Not sure why they made this change but seems like a weird one to make...
So Kingpin has more plot amour than fricking Batman. Has no powers, just a regular human, but can't ever stay defeated. He took a bullet to the face at point blank range - STILL SURVIVES!!! Not even resurrected though sci-fi/supernatural intervention or anything FFS!
I stopped watching videos like yours, or screen rant, and the others cause honestly, I'm tired of all the whining about the MCU. I think people who watch a show/movie based on a book or comics should stop comparing, cause two things, is NEVER going to be the same, and also not all of us read or care about the "source" material. Also when you said that one of the problems was reading subtitles, I laughed. You know that are people who English is not their first language and have been watching shows with subtitles like, forever? Oh no, people who speak English have to READ what a tragedy. At this point I think channel like yours and the others complain just because is what everyone is doing. I like it the show, is the best one? No, but that doesn't mean it was bad. I think the people that whine and can't enjoy things are the problem with the MCU more that the projects themselves. There are exceptions, sure, they are not infallible. But not everything is bad, like you see on so many videos on RU-vid. I don't know, I think everyone will be better if they just watch a show/movie without seeking for every single detail on why is wrong or bad.
@@avator1233Did you hear the expression don't like, don't watch? Apply that, random person on the internet who thinks superior and use an old expression to invalidate someone's POV.
These people should watch the Netflix versions of Daredevil, punished, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist to learn what to do well because those did a lot better then these marvel shows. This is not the best because it’s so short i wanted more.
Wrong, give it a chance, I'm ngl I usually always agree with Paul but I massively disagree with his takes in this one - definitely give it a chance and make your own decision
I thoroughly enjoyed Echo as a show, but I do think it had a lot of problems, but thankfully, a lot of those problems are strictly tied to the amount of time they had and going into Daredevil Born Again I really don't think they're going to have that problem anymore because they're bumping up the episode count from 5 to 18 episodes! The action was really awesome, and I loved Kingpin and Daredevil even for the limited screen time they had. TLDR: Good but flawed. 7/10.
The very first episode during the Daredevil fight they showed a lot of headshots and violence just like the punisher show on Netflix, but the rest of the series felt like rated g MCU. I want to see the same level of violence that we saw from Frank Castle in the Netflix punisher series and I think I'm not the only one 💯
I enjoyed the episodes, I think it being self contained, relatively quick, and full of representation works really well. Don’t think it was a critical masterpiece or “changed the direction or marvel” but that’s a lot of pressure to put on a lesser known character from marveI in a limited series. I believe it was worth the time (and focus to read subtitles) to watch and hope so see Echo in other properties. Spider-Man doing bad sign language as he learns would be perfect
Very well said Paul, I was one of those who went to revise the source material before watching the show a few weeks ago and was a little bit disappointed with how the show went I think the Choctaw tie did not help much to the plot as the show runners expected and it ended up having a wonky end. They massacred Vincent d'onofrio King Pin character. I think the Netflix reputation of Daredevil can still do a good job in the forthcoming series ahead but I won't bet on Disney
Huh. Loved the show, but haven’t read the comics, so I didn’t have that coloring things. Interesting to hear your view. I really thought the character study worked better than the story in most recent Marvel shows. I think the actors did a lot of carrying here, but they carried it well.
