Echo Point Nova: A Hoverboarding Sci-Fi FPS With Smashable Walls & Epic Amounts of Mobility! (Alpha) Read More & Play The Alpha Demo, Free: www.alphabetag... #EchoPointNova
This is a new game currently in development by the creators of Severed Steel. It shares a little DNA with Severed Steel, but with massive open levels and a serious increase in player mobility. You start to feel like a superhero as you unlock new abilities/gadgets to allow you to whiz around the environment!
Ah, I thought those destruction physics looked quite familiar. An open world shooter in the veins of Severed Steel does sound pretty epic. The movement looks fresh and clean.
This looks really good. The movement & shooting mechanics are very satisfying, as well as the bullet-to-enemy contact. Visuals & sound design are good too. Looking forward to the full release.
Boss: we need new game ideas Employee: how about we lift chipping away at the environment with a pickaxe from Minecraft; red skies, a pseudomedieval setting and floating islands from Dread Delusion; climbing from climbing games like Lorn's Lure, and hoverboarding from Tanuki Sunset, and mash them all together without rhyme or reason? Boss: wow, big brain time. If ypur brain swells any further, we won't be able to leave the conference room. By the way: how is it that I haven't promoted you yet?
"oxygen levels... earth like, lifeforms hostility... earth like (hostile)" made me chuckle. i love severed steel and this looks like worthy expansion of its concepts and mechanisms
I remember Mr Icarus showcasing this on his channel. Considering how good Severed Steel was, expanding on its concepts while still retaining all the good bits seems like a good move.
I can't help hut be reminded of that one vr game about slaying giants, and rodea sky soldier for wii, these are very good games to draw inspiration from.
This game is amazing! I've already loved Severed Steel, so it gives me the same vibes. With the inclusion of a hoverboard even? This is looking really cool
This was pretty cool, but it really looked like it would be better as two different games: a "Bionic Commando" homage (with much smaller spaces and more interiors) and an online racing game with guns and hoverboards (with the same wide areas but much less combat in small interiors). It could even be made into a snowboarding game with one group making their escape and another group giving chase. The narration is a bit wonky (like the "Hell Yeah" that literally forced ABG to stop racing so he could see the message). Maybe since your character is wearing a set of goggles that can shatter, they can also receive messages and/or provide a basic HUD. The goggles could also point in the direction of objectives, and if you so choose, you can give players the option to take off their goggles for a more immersive experience (then just have blood-shot eyes to show damage). The lack of music in the normal plane made the game somewhat tedious - it would have been nice to get slowed-down versions of the alternate plane's music (to provide hype for when the player enters the alternate trance plane), or just generic background music that fades in/out. Or anytime the hoverboard comes out, so too does its built-in speakers. This demo gave a pretty good feel for what the game can handle, but in terms of gameplay it looked like more of the same ol' same ol' run from point A to B, kill a bunch of guys, repeat. Separating the game into two different genres allows the "Bionic Commando" section to have a full-blown plot, with building structures and firearms, and allows for multiple-directional approaches to completing goals. Making an online racing game allows for the track to provide for half of the entertainment, the rest belongs to player interaction.
This might be heresy, but I think the game would be better without the guns. The hoverboarding looks fantastic, just imagine taking out enemies with sick kickflips.
This like SOFT doom without pesky blood gore and to much violence focus on speed and busido theme ideal for kids and world competitions, a hover board is remind me Back to future, future with flying car and hover cars we so await.
The mobility aspect looks great and the game has a lot of style, however the enemies seem to not be very engaging which makes having a million movement options ultimately pointless outside of platforming. I would suggest enemies that also have many movement options in big arenas that the enemies can actually traverse instead of just standing in a little spot waiting to get shot. And imo the smashable walls thing is pretty meh, I struggle to imagine that being an interesting mechanic.
Obviously this is an alpha build, but off the jump it needs quite a bit of work. You only get a soundtrack briefly, the player arsenal so far is pretty dull, and even the hoverboarding parts are a bit dull (especially given there's no music or anything yet).
