I have the 6'9" 3 wt and it's a joy to fish. I'm surprised by this video as it seems Ben is struggling to say anything good about the rod. It's like he is comparing it to high end graphite and ignoring that glass has a different feel and purpose.
Ya I couldn’t finish the review because he was basically saying this is a hipster or kids rod lol I’ve fished with and old fenwick fiberglass rod for a very long time. It’s so damn fun! I end up doing 90% of my small stream trout fishing with it. It feels like you can gently hand lay the fly on the water. And you can’t beat the fight.
They also offer it in root beer brown if I'm not mistaken. Great video! I'm stoked that you reviewed this rod and I look forward to more reviews on echo products!
I'm a die hard cat fisherman, and I use little fly rods like that to catch bluegills for bait, tons of fun. Last year I managed to catch a 3 pound bass on a #8 wooly bugger, little rods are tons of fun and store on the boat better
Try the fly rod for catfish! They will chase the heck out of a minnow type streamer or leach. Olive cone head woolly bugger or backless silver tinsel and white bugger are my go to cat flies.
Typically like your reviews, this one you sounded like someone describing their ex-boss, ex-girlfiend that they had to talk about. Kinda like a Ferrai technician desribing a Ford Pinto :)
Really crappy review. You can’t compare this rod to a graphite rod. Fly rods aren’t just about casting or striking fish. Some people like that sweet full flex feel down into the cork as you battle that fish to the net. An experience that a glass rod captures well.
Lol I’m so tired of every video on glass describing them as “beginners rods”. There are a lot of reasons people like to fish glass. I’ve been fly fishing for 30 years. I like casting glass better than graphite. Maybe carbon fetishists should stop reviewing glass rods? Leave it to someone a bit more romantic.
I mean he did say that it’s good for beginners OR experienced anglers looking for a more fun setup. Take your grumpy gatekeeping shit and hit the water.
Just a tip Ben. The whole review sounded rather negative, especially your repeated use of the phrase “nothing special”. Certainly didn’t make me want to buy one. Just sayin.
I got exactly the same thing out of that. Having the 3 wt river Glass ( among half dozen other glass rods), I can tell you I feel it is something special.
@@davidaguiar1387 I'm looking for a light glass rod for my trout creek and will generally be casting 20' to 30'. Would you do the Echo or a Butter Stick? Butter Stick appeals to me more and seems softer and a little slower from what I see just watching RU-vid.
@@blackbeansmatter1280 I have only handled the Butterstick and only in 4 wt so am no expert. The BS was nice but didn't click enough for me to purchase one (yet). Maybe someday. I now own the River glass in 2,3,4 and 5 wts. I think they are about as progressive in action a rod as I want to go. Smooth, relaxed but with some reserve power. I like the securely locking reel seat ( vs sliding band) design better too. I think the 3 wt Echo would be perfect for the kind of fishing your referring too. FWIW, the Fenglass 3 wt is worth looking at too IMHO. Buy what YOU like though!
I dont understand the design choices Echo makes. Their products have so much potential but they fail in terms of aesthetics every single time, which like it or not is a huge factor in fly rod sales. They really need to take notes from companies like The Fly Project, and Sage, even those terrible moonshine rods have better design than the echos. This has to be one of the ugliest glass rods on the market.
