Hi Kevin, I was in Liverpool from 1978 to 1981, what a great time and place for music. Eric’s, University, Star and Garter for lunch time sessions, even recall the Odd Spot for late night dance. It was also the time of the Stiff Tour - remember? 😀
In 1997 this band sneaked past the hyped Britpop bands like Oasis and Blur, as well as the vacuous bluster of the Spice Girls, and gave us the best song of the year.
Liam sings on the record but get what you’re saying. To be fair Oasis and Blur were inspired by these guys so doubt it was a shock to them like it was you 😉
I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast, liking it but also thinking that they looked like a veteran band.. Now I'm watching thinking how young bloody young Ian looks.
I just heard this song last week. I can’t believe this passed me by. It’s as beautiful as don’t look back in anger, bittersweet symphony, no surprises (maybe Tender can be there too?) - how is this not in the 90s cannon. It’s absolutely stunning. And what is it with Liverpool and amazing bands!!! Shack is another band that I think is criminally underrated.
oh, no. No, it's totally not. I really like the song. But, no. No, his voice is not close to incredible. Not close Most bar singers could sing this as well, or better. But, still, a really good song
Best band on the planet, still. Ian just has that presence - last iof the great rock stars. Will Sergeant must be the most underrated guitarist of all time, brilliant.
What a top tune from one of the Uk's best bands... saw them perform this in the courtyard at cream in Liverpool for the album launch... simply stunning x

I want it now I want it now Not the promises of what tomorrow brings I need to live in dreams today I'm tired of the song that sorrow sings And i want more than i can get Just trying to, trying to, trying to forget I'd walk to you through rings of fire And never let you know the way i feel Under skin is where i hide The love that always gets me on my knees And i want more than i can get Just trying to, trying to, trying to forget Nothing ever lasts forever Nothing ever lasts forever Nothing ever lasts forever Nothing ever lasts forever I want it now I want it now Don't tell me that my ship is coming in Nothing comes to those who wait Time's running out the door you're running in So, i want more than i can get Just trying to, trying to, trying to forget Nothing ever lasts forever Nothing ever lasts forever Nothing ever lasts forever Nothing ever lasts forever All the shadows and the pain Are coming to you All the shadows and the pain Are coming to you All the shadows and the pain Are coming to you All the shadows and the pain Are coming to you All the shadows and the pain Are coming to you All the shadows and the pain Are coming to you All the shadows and the pain Are coming to you
I've seen them twice once in Nottingham and once in Manchester.....both times he sang Ocean Rain at the end but each time all the pissed up clowns at the back were talking and shouting which drowned out such a beautiful song.....obviously the serious fans, (including me) go to the front but I hate tight crowds....what a band !
Genius track , Can somebody do a Deep Fake Video of Frank Sinatra singing this song. In my mind this track would have been perfect for him and he would have nailed it.
If this is considered historical, good. When the kids can go back to school, they're realise it's 20'th centaury philosophy with guitars. Then they'll die.
