Whoever designs an exhaust to actually make these engines sound good will make a fortune. Love the truck and engine but like most hate the sound they produce.
I agree. I think that’s the biggest issue I have…..no matter what you do to it, no matter what vehicle it’s in, it’s always going to sound like an industrial stump grinder.
I’m not a huge fan of the eco boost but there is no denying that they make awesome power and torque. This is a really cool and seemingly well done swap. Probably took lots of money, time, and talent to make it happen.
I agree. This swap is freaking awesome. I don’t think they’re terrible engines even tho in my mind the 5.0 coyote is still better in terms of dependability. I wish ford would make a v8 ecoboost with more displacement and start putting them in the super duty line of trucks. The 3.5s seem to tow pretty good so a v8 ought to be a beast.
@@Jbyrd75901 no .. its direct injected which cause the injectors to be quite noisy (like a diesel) i can assure you that engine in the video is running perfectly fine
@@conner5611 It might be the cam driven high pressure fuel pump we're hearing, especially without the insulating cover on it. Even with the cover mine is definitely audible.
@@jdubskiwright2380 ive seen aftermarket fuel delivery systems for running e85. Obviously these are designed to have way higher flow than the stock fuel system. I think these were $1k -$2k
Do you often tell people they should like what you like instead of what they like? Or is this just something you do on the internet? I'm not saying the truck sounds awesome but clearly the owner has money. If he didn't like it I'm sure he'd change it.
Dude my dad had an f150 just like that. Inline 6 and a 5 speed when I was a kid. Of course that feels like way back before dirt was invented, but I learned how to heal toe in that truck I'd love to see it like this
That's exactly what I drive now 94 f150 with the 300 6cyl an a 5spd 2wd .its got plenty of torque but could use some more horsepower and definitely need more gear in the axle. Mine has the 2.79 unfortunately I'm looking to swap it to the 3.27 or 3.31 rear gear..
@@MrTheHillfolk yea with turbos from old 7.3 powerstroke diesel motors...and yes there small there not exactly big turbos..there not 70 mm or 85 mm turbos there maybe 58 to 60mm at the most doesn't take much only 7 or 8 psi to get power out of the 300
Honestly I had no idea what a ecoboost sounded like but If that is what it's supposed to sound like then that gotta be one of the ugliest sounding motors ever built... it sounded like shit...
@@OkGreat- it's the exhaust manifolds. Granted, it's never going to be deep sounding but no one makes equal length turbo manifolds. Ford tried to fix it on the Raptor and it's a little bit deeper but still bad.
I like it’s sound. It sounds way different than you would expect. I’m used to trucks just being overly loud here. XD this one has a nice purr at idle and is loud when it needs to be it’s nice.
The 2.7 is one of my favorites. 375 HP and 450 torque by 3k with that little engine is completely and entirely possible and easy Bragging rights will be the best part of the swap like that after you clean the clocks of 85% of vehicles on the road.
I miss my ecoboost, I had the exhaust run as a 4" straight pipe after the cats and routed the blow-off valves to vent under the hood. It never sounded amazing but it sounded plenty angry when you got on it! Threw a rod this February and it will be $10,000 to replace the motor, I can't wait to get the old girl running again.
Yesssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keepin them on the road!!!!! Love this. Swap is super cool! And I bet that thing pulls hard, at ALL speeds with that modern transmission. Keep it going!!!!
They kind of missed the mark by coming out with EcoBoost in a 6 cylinder instead of an 8. A 2.8L twin turbo v8 would do what a twin turbo 2.8L v6 would do, but not sound dumb. (Price and packaging, v8 loses, decision made.) Yes, I drive a 4 cyl. N/A hatchback and complain on the internet.
That's way too small displacement for a V8, that's why the manufacturers choose stupid V6s. Their priority after reaching power goals is packaging and price, and V6 is just a decent compromise on everything. Your comment cracked me up, I drive a 4cyl too. I actually love 4cyls
@@RyanMcIntyre Moto Guzzi made a 500cc V8 in 1955 so they can be made small. Ignore the blow-by on an engine that old & listen to the sound it made!: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8TG7f2imRQo.html Boost fixes displacement and that's why the small V6 in the eco boosts perform well. Still sounds like a Taurus.
@@BigRedRocketScience I apologize, I should have been more clear, I know small v8s can be made, just look at the Cosley. I just meant that 2.8L for a V8 is impractical, Chevy had a 2.8 v6 and it was seen as impractical and should have been a 4cyl. Mazda made a 2.2 or 2.4 v6 at one time too. They're out there, but most of the time an I4, V6, or V8 will fall into displacement ranges for efficiency of production more than any other reason.
I live the next town over from Mars Auto Parts, where I think he said he got the drivetrain from. Seeing their work in action is convincing me to go to them when it comes time to LS swap my postwar Bel Air. Working up the nerve to go see their operation.
That’s awesome, I want to do this so bad. I think my uncle has two late 70’s f100’s that I can do this on. I already pulled a 302 out of one to put into a nice 75. Because this build is bad ass, I was shocked at how good it sounds with the pedal down.
Awesome swap! Definite originality points. Just keep an eye on the cam phasers and the timing chain. That's the weak link w/ the Ecoboost 6rs Have to fix them constantly at work. Other than it'd be hilarious to take that old truck and just troll everyone and everything! 😎👍
This is great! I have appreciated every eco boost f-150 I've driven. Decent MPG and awesome acceleration. Maybe in another decade you could buy a kit to convert it to full electric. Imagine that bad dog with 800lbs of torque at 0 RPM.
Theyre starting to make those now. Too bad Obama did the cash for clunkers instead of a retrofit technology coming along to save them old beauties. Older cars got nice character and it would be more efficient than constantly pushing these disposables of today
I love it. On many occasions I've considered exactly this swap on my 94. If I ever find a donor I may just do it 🤷♂️ those little 3.5s know how to throw down
As someone who ecoboost 4 cylinder swapped a ranger, this is badass! Some people will never appreciate the amount of work and engineering that goes into swaps like this.
